I happen to be a very proud owner of a Toyota Prius, not one of these macho, oooooh look at my 4×4 status symbol brigade who think the world should be grateful that they are burning fossil fuels at a rate far greater than anyone else.

Thank you Gordon Brown for looking after those who do try and make some contribution to saving the planet.

I’m sure when there’s no electricity coming out your power sockets to run your cutters, plotters and computers, fridges and TV’s you might think about what you could have done to contribute to the effort.

There are places for 4×4’s and that isn’t city centres, off road parking or on school runs.

People really need a kick up the arse to help them realise the effects of global warming and the prospects of a diminishing fuel reserve.

    Hi Dan,

This is not an easy one! Trying to fit the ‘graphics’ in without upsetting the balance is tricky.

Anyhow, here’s something I knocked up – a smaller ‘GRAPHICS’ nestled under ‘image’ in the same font but white with an orange bevel/shadow to give it accent.

You’re all missing the key point here!

It’s a pure work of genius – how clever!

Simply take the width of the van and multiply it by the height and then mulitply it by 2.5 (2 sides and back) and there you have it!

You know instantly how many square metres of vinyl the job will take 😉

Rob, I think you could run a pricing tutorial based on this philosophy.

    Hi George,

I don’t know you would go about changing them on a Cadet but I’m sure someone will know.

    As for the VersaCAMM;

You don’t flush out the old inks, the firmware upgrade on the printer takes you through the change over and uses approx 20ml of each ink to purge the tubes.

It is best to replace all 4 cartridges at the same time and say goodbye to any ink old ink remaining.

    I aggree!

The new MAX inks are brilliant. They are so much more robust, to the extent you can put so much ink down it looks like a layer of paint.

‘Why?’ I can here some people asking………static cling and clear vinyl for a start.

Absolutely no smell, dry as it leaves the machine and scratch resistant to the extent you destroy the vinyl before the ink comes off.

    Well done Roland :2thumbs:

    Hi Lorraine,

I use a combination of both pro and home, and to be perfectly honest, for the average user it doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference.

The only real advantage pro has over home is that it has a web server built in so you can do local testing of web pages with active content and to host local intranets (both network very well).

If you have computer parts supplier near you try and buy an OEM version of XP that comes with a piece of hardware… such as this

Skype to Skype calls are totally free, zip, diddly squat, gratis!

It doesn’t cost a penny to register, download the software and use the service.

Should you wish to make calls to a land line or a mobile number then yes, you have to charge your account with 10 Euros, but even then the call rates are insignificant.

I made a 30 minute call to Australia earlier this week and it cost just over 30p.

Give it a go it’s free – trust me, I play with vinyl 😮

    Hi John,

Just a thought but what about doing away with the printed poster and magnetics idea and simply print onto cheap removable bus advertising vinyl and replace them as necessary?

The vinyl comes off very easily without leaving a trace and there’d be no need to laminate for short term stuff, plus the prints would be less ‘knickable’ than magnetic sheets.

There are times when I’m tempted to put these signs up!

I have two dogs – English springer spaniels, and I clean up each and every time, and from two dogs that’s a lot of you know what!

It only takes one person to not pick up and it gives all responsible dog owners a bad name (:)

One thing that really gets on my bits is this …. people, tourists and fishermen come to enjoy the views across the estuary in South Lakeland looking over towards the hills of the Lake District and they think nothing of throwing their tea bags, yogurt pots, cigarette packets, banana skins, pop tins etc. into the estuary – I wonder if they’d enjoy the view if it were of a refuse site?

The daft thing is, there’s a rubbish bin – on the other side of road! Must be too far to walk.

    Hi,

Personally, for the less informal sign I think centered is best. Perhaps if it were for a legal firm then left justified would be more appropriate.

I would also choose the matte finish, it allows the viewer to see the text without any reflections or glare.

Rather than paint the front door of my house I wrapped it in green vehicle conform vinyl and stuck metallic gold 7yr vinyl over the faux window beading – it looked really great, fantastic gloss finish and very durable.

Thing is though, I moved house in January and I wish I could see the look on the new people’s faces when they come to strip and re-paint the door :lol1:

    Hi Mark,

I’ve had similar printing banner on a VersaCAMM and yes tried hanging weights etc. from the media. 🙄

The large media clamps are part of the answer but also before you start printing, feed out sufficient media to go down to the bottom of the black ‘voltage switch’ arrow on the sticker below the dryer heater and set the base point there. I guess that’s about 200mm of media.

The extra banner material should provide enough extra weight to keep it flat on the bed and stop it puckering up.

Just a thought, but it could also be down to the liquid laminate expanding at a different rate to the media and causing the problem, you may want to try turning the print heater off for the reverse side and just use the dryer.

I hope this is of help.

Have you checked and cleaned the lens? If it were to be used dirty wouldn’t the result be a hot lens and reduced output? Which of course would then expand a little, defocus and offset the beam as well.

    Hi Jules and all,

Just got back from meeting up with Paul. He’s looking really cheerful and certainly has a great deal of energy for the rest of the journey of which he is now over half way!

We met up in the square at Kirby Lonsdale and decided to go for a quick half (orange juice) in the pub round the corner and had a real good chat.

Until this adventure Paul has never cycled a hundred miles in a day, never mind nine days on the trot.

Today he’s been held back a bit by all the hills, head wind and a slight detour that he was told was an easier route than straight down the A6 but didn’t do that much to help. He hopes to get to Lancaster or just beyond, maybe Galgate or Garstang before he pitches his tent and has a read of this thread that I printed out for him.

He’s suffering from a few aches and pains but I think it’s the back of his leg that’s giving him the most grief, but from here on in the hills and terrain should make for easier cycling.

Paul is still aiming to to complete the journey on Sunday, taking a total of nine days and at this moment he is on target for that.

    I have posted a picture of Paul taken in Kirkby Lonsdale, you can view it here;

    https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=102551#102551

Note to Rob – Could you please add this picture to this thread?

    Good luck Paul :bike;

Oh and by the way Jules, I think Paul’s missing you!

    I think that’s about all.

Please do dig deep and help Paul raise a good amount for a very worthy charity. Don’t forget donations to charity are tax deductable 😉

    Hi,

I’ve just spoken with Paul, he’s at Penrith in Cumbria.

He’s heading inland slightly trying avoid the really big hills and instead taking in the sights of Tebay and Kirkby Lonsdale. I’m about 12 miles from Kirkby Lonsdale, so hopefully I’ll be able to meet up with Paul later on today.

Even with a bit of a head wind slowing him down slightly he sounds really upbeat, happy and of course determined as ever.

Here’s hoping for fine weather and a tail wind!

    I think it might mean;

Not sure if ‘tiger’ is the correct word, maybe cat, feline or …… I think I’ll stop there 😳

P.S. By the way what did CJ get for her birthday 😉

    Hi Mike,

I print onto Hexis Static Cling with a VersaCAMM.

A good profile that works for me is:

Hexis Micro 2 profile (one way vision film) @ 720dpi
    Bi Dir
    Variable Dry
    1
    16
    500
    0.0
    Heater 35-45

You may want to go to Variable for a more saturated colour.

The main problem is puckering at the roll edge, you may need to use the long media clamps, but only put them part way onto the static cling otherwise they snag and bind on it.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Marek,

It would be grate if you could make it up to Cumbria and the Lake District. We’re in a little place called Sandside, apart from fantastic views the only other thing in the village is a pub 😮

You’re more than welcome to visit and take the dogs out onto the estuary!

“They should be available in September”

    Let’s see what happens 😉

If anybody asks me for a design to be made from an off-cut I show them the most insipid, gut wrenching, bile bubbling yellow or purple vinyl :vomit: I can find (we all have some hiding somewhere in our stock), count to three and ….

Oh, how much would it be for the design in blue vinyl then? 😉

    Home based here as well!

Every aspect suits me perfectly, a fantastic estuary just over the road where I walk the dogs, woods at the back and the field where I fly model aircraft is only 3 miles away 😀

The downside, well there isn’t one really. I did get tired of people phoning in the early hours, that has been fixed a Philips phone system that only allows family and friends to get through out of office hours – everyone else goes straight through to voice-mail and I deal with that in the morning!

The hours are flexible, so if it’s nice and sunny I can do some gardening and if it’s raining I can build model aircraft – so you can see there is plenty of time for work 😮 erm, what I mean is :2thumbs: it’s great if you are able to differentiate between work and home.

    Hi Steve,

I know what you mean, I’m just down the road in 015395 or is it 01539 5, all the locals insist their phone number is only 5 digits long not 6.

I have to recite the full number when anyone asks – or simply give them the local rate 0845 number 😉

Touch screen technology, satellite navigation, speech recognition, 9 JBL speakers, 6 cd changer, blue-tooth integration, climate control, £65 a year road tax, £230 a year fully comp insurance including business use and a nice 56+mpg for a good size 5 door family car.

No great big engine just a little 1.5l vvt-i and a 50kW electric motor that combined have as much torque as a V6 diesel and a 0 – 62 in under 11 seconds.

It’s the only way to go – Hybrid technology!!

Go and get yourselves a Toyota Prius and start saving the planet.

    Hi Shane,

Have you specified your ‘CutPath’ colour as one of the spot colours? If you’ve renamed a normal cmyk colour as ‘CutPath’ it won’t work.

Also on another note don’t forget to output any eps’s from Corel 12 as PostScript 3 otherwise you’ll end up with many problems including truncated prints.

    Hello Neil,

    Many thanks for you reply.

In answer – I don’t know 😕 I’ve been asked by a fellow model aircraft builder if I can cut it.

I would have thought thin sheets that can be cut and then be layered, finally bonded with a ‘finishing’ fibreglass epoxy.

If this isn’t enough to go on, I’ll find out more details and pass them on.

    Thanks again,
