Hi Lee, van looks really well, just wondered how do you or anyone else reading this get to the area above a wind screen and apply vinyl. The folk nextdoor come out to watch me as they reckon it’s more fun than watching telly

Got any pictures Russ? :lol1: :lol1:
It looks great Lee! Nice and clean.

Hi
Thanks for the comments……….
John: I don’t mind telling you but I’ll pm you. OK
Russ: Just stand on a box…. :lol1:
Regards
PS Russ: CJ, (daughter – the one with the big tiger print) – would like to know where you are from. Ireland, she thinks?

Lee
if I stand on a box I just get above one of the wheel arches, I’am one of the little people, and need a skirting board ladder.
Also thick as two short planks, I cannot quite work out your last line of text.

Sorry Russ. My daughter, CJ wants to know where you are from. she thinks your flag is Irish.

Hi Lee & CJ
I’ve now got it, I am a hybrid, mum Irish, dad Scotish, me English but I live in Ireland and wave the flag.
Russ
-
Russ,
How can you be English if your Mum is Irish and your Dad is Scottish ?
🙄
-
Come on Simon,
When faced with been either Irish or Scottish there is only one choice.
To become a Englishman 😀

Hi Lee,
Unlike this ‘orrible lot asking a constant barrage of questions, I only have one;
What are ‘Visual Image Consulants’? 🙄

Thanks Lynn, Have done the open door thing and stood on boxes, used tressels and planks layed on the roof and up the bonnet, being as round as I am tall I can see why it must be better than watching the telly for the neighbours. Really looking for extra input from others especially on larger vans and a laugh along the way.
Simon, mum & dad lived in England and that’s where I was born and raised, hence English, but the stick I get from both my Irish and Scottish sides of the family is unreal, but great craic, so I wave the flag where I’am living and working.
Nigel 😀 😀 😀
Mark I reckon window cleaner

Nigel and Russ,
My old dear would probably agree with you both. 😀
Her Father was Scottish, Mother was English born and lived for years in the Lake District.
Always tells me she’s English. 😀 😀
Never a dull conversation around the dinner table. 😮

This got me thinking… I haven’t tried this but maybe using two of these – http://www.smarthome.com/90722.html – one on the front, one on the rear wheel, to support a plank would make a good side of vehicle “scaffold” that would help with fitting to tall vans etc.
Cheers

Once clambered up onto the front of a hi-roof transit to stick vinyl on….. once I was there I was just about gripping on with my toes lying flat out on the window! 😮 Got the vinyl on, then couldn’t get back off the bl00dy van! So my customer came to my rescue…. with his forklift truck! 😀 (no weight comments thank you 🙂 )
-
Marcella, please let me know when you are doing your next hi-roof, I will be selling front seat tickets and saving the dash board for myself -googleye-

I’ve used a simple solution for getting at high areas on front of van. This only works where you have a roller door. I allow door down to a level a little above the height of the van. I then place aluminium ladder against door at roughly same angle as front of van. I then drive in van to within about 6″ of touching ladder. This allows me to work comfortably on any high areas. Important to have ladder held as it will be at maybe 45 degrees
-
You could try a painters trestle on either side of the bonnet and a couple of aluminium planks. 😀
-
i have a regular job fitting on Hi top Sprinters.
when it comes to the logo above the cab at the front, i take my boots off and stand on the top edge of the bonnet!!!!

First I would like to sorry to Lee for hijacking his post,
the working problem of getting to the area above the windscreen to apply vinyl, when you don’t have all the kit you wished you had, I think has been quite interesting.
for years I had to work outside as I had no garage, tryed all the above methods and have to say they all work well but can be a little uncomfortable, you manage to stick yourself to the front of the van then drop your squeegee, maybe uttering the words flip.
Shaun, the wheel platform looks like it could be adapted to help in this area.
Kevin, great tip about the roller door.
is there any more simple ideas out there that might help
Thanks Russ
ps. I might be a little bit taller than I’am letting on
(ok just a bit then )
