Label remover
Posted by Robert Berwick on November 23, 2005 at 11:21 amDoes anyone know of a chemical or product that will quickly remove the label from a bottle (of wine for example)? I need to get the label and adhesive off with the minimum of effort.
Thanks
Robert

Don’t forget the Sax 🙂 -
not sure if you have this product over there
goof off
or
goo gone
? if you do….go grab some, stuff works great.try a little rapid remover
for labels I pop the item in hot water too, but use an old kitchen butter knife to scrape off the label.
all else fails
lighter fluid -
my budwieser bottles labels falls off because they are chilled and wet. Ok might upset the wine that though.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I’ll try them all.
Dave – Really sorry about the sax. I’m a lazy bugger at the best of times but just recently my girlfriend gave birth to our daughter and both of my directors have been away from work so they’ve left the running of the ship to me, which with a heavily understaffed and over stretched business means I’ve got my hands dirty most of the time.
I will get around to it I promise.

No worries Robert, and congratulations on the addition to the family.

quote DaveBruce:How about steam
I’ve always held the label over a steaming kettle for a minute or two – peels off a treat.
Dry the bottle and use some lighter fluid/petrol to remove any sticky residue left behind.
I always keep a tin of lighter fluid around for removing any leftovers of sticky labels I’ve peeled off. Magic stuff – even for removing marker pen etc….
Regards,
Bruce.

Some wine bottle labels just don’t come off!!
We make our own wine and friends, relatives etc. give us with their empties and sometimes you’ve gotta give up and throw some away because the labels are welded on inside a nuclear powered, very high bond, never get the buggers off production line 😮
Warm soapy water does usually do the trick.

Ah, she’s gorgeous! Congratulations!
BTW, PVC cleaner works well on cleaning up plastics, and removing glue-just let it soak for a minute, then scrape into a pile & clean off. (Messy!)

3M Industrial Cleaner.
But don’t wash that lovely baby with it!!
