Nik, just had a look at the petrol thing…
It asks for your average MPG and shows an example of 36.9……..
36.9???? you’re having a laugh…my ave mpg is around 18-20 but, i have been told that mpg is diectley related to how heavy your right foot is……unfotunatley i have a very bad limp…

You’re right Nik, i could have 3 cars on the road but i can only drive one at a time, so it might as well be a nice one 😀

i feel for you mate… :lol1: i used to have a petrol frontera sport jeep.
i got about 40-50 miles for a tenner whatever that works out at… thats how i would calculate how much i needed if going a fair drive :lol1: -
Time to get a turbo diesel chaps.
Nowadays a 2 litre diesel has more torque than a 2.6 litre v6. The V6 will average 25mpg whereas the more powerful (in terms of torque) diesel will manage 40mpg. Buy a performance chip for a diesel and you have a real roadburner.
Long live the Diesel 😀 😕

I like Jags. A very good friend is our local car dealer specialising in them and he always has a row parked on his forecourt. Every Saturday morning when I drop in for a coffee and a chat I cast my eyes over the stock and sometimes I get very tempted. The problem is that my Galaxy is just too versatile and useful so I have, so far, been able to resist it.
With my Galaxy, a 1.9 turbo diesel, I suffer a bit of a performance hit because I insist on having an automatic but in reality it is good enough in today’s congested, speed camera infested world. If I fancy a blast I just go out on a bike.
Pottering around locally I get 38 to the gallon but on a run that can go up as high as 44, which funnily enough is about the same as I get out of my 1.8 litre bike. 🙂
Phill, I believe that, breakiing with years of tradition, you can now buy a diesel Jaguar estate. If I ever succumb that would be my choice (provided there is an auto option).

just looking at this thread makes me nervous when I run a 5 litre petrol Merc., Like fred said I can only drive one at atime so it might as well be nice.

That’s quite frightening when you add up exactly what’s spent in fuel. Especially when the majority of it goes to the government. I’ve always run relatively big engine cars, Im now onto a diesel for the first time, a ML270. The fuel consumption isn’t bad, but then I’ve only done 8000 miles in the last 18 months!
I get my hubby to do all the running around for me and keep my mileage and fuel cost low! 😉 -

Touch screen technology, satellite navigation, speech recognition, 9 JBL speakers, 6 cd changer, blue-tooth integration, climate control, £65 a year road tax, £230 a year fully comp insurance including business use and a nice 56+mpg for a good size 5 door family car.
No great big engine just a little 1.5l vvt-i and a 50kW electric motor that combined have as much torque as a V6 diesel and a 0 – 62 in under 11 seconds.
It’s the only way to go – Hybrid technology!!
Go and get yourselves a Toyota Prius and start saving the planet.

Problem with turbo diesels is you may find a green peace activist has chained them selves to your bumper lmao :lol1:
Even tho diesels are sposed to be more eco friendly than petrol motors!!

I Just had a go with the Fuel calculator that pixnixpc had listed in her post & was expecting the worst as i am one of the hated 4X4 Owners. I was pleasantly surprised my Annual Bill is under £700 😀
My next door neighbor was here as well he drives a automatic Hyundai coupe & he had a go on it, his fuel bill was over double of my Mitsubishi Pajero 4×4.
O.K i only drive 4500 Miles a year , But it does go to show its not size that matters – it’s how you use it 😀

I agree John -have the same a 1.9td Galaxy, just finished a trip down through France 44 to the gallon (at French prices of 1.01 Euro Less than 70p a ltr it made for reasonably priced motoring

I used to have a Vauxhall Sintra V6 8 seater, It was fine on a long run but about town that car could drink petrol…Good thing with it could beat most cars from the lights and i managed to get it up to 130mph.. 😮
Got a six seater diesel van now 🙂

lol, the best ever car i had was my last one, a 1997 lwb nissan patrol, 4200cc s/six petrol motor, weighed in at 3000kg and would burn abour 1 gallon for every 12-15 miles !
i think on £65 quid i would get about 180 miles 😥 lovely car tho, second only to a landcruiser amazon !
tho thats better than my pink race car, 7.2L and 600bhp, that does about 4mpg on tickover and about 2 gallons per mile in anger (hot) , when i go out on the road it does about 40 miles on a 16 gallon fuel cell !!
my current nissan maxima (3L V6) is most impractical for sign work, but like simon says above, there’s little in the same price range that’ll touch it for performance, both from the line and top end (which of course i never use !) and it’ll still do 25mpg when i’m nice to it !

We run two Land Rover 110 station wagons.
One a 2.5 petrol avg 17-20mpg (only does around 3000miles pa)
The other a 2.5 Tdi, avg 25-30mpg (about 8000miles pa)Thing is both are used for towing and off road and when it floods round here we can still get about and both will be around long time after any greenpeace protesters cars are visiting the great scrap yard in the sky.
Estimates are that 75% of ALL Land Rovers ever built are still on the road. Not many manufacturers can boast that.
So okay on day to day running they are not the most enviro friendly cars on the road but on longevity, their a winner.
When greenpeace start blockading airports and aircraft manus then maybe I’ll be interested in their opinions, but they won’t do that cos then they won’t be able to go to Ibiza/Kos/Spain etc.
