  • is R-Tape the best application available?

Posted by Bart Van Wassenhove on January 12, 2006 at 10:36 am

    Goodmorning evrybody,

i’ve been using Oracal application for five years now. Most of the time it worked out well. The only problem was the curling up of the edges.
Thanks to some advice on the boards i decided to try R-Tape application paper. To be honest i didn’t believe it would make a lot of difference :lol1:

Once again this place proves it quality! R-tape stays as flat as it can, no wrinkles, no curling!!! The difference is huge. No dirt or dust can come between the application and the backing paper. R-Tape totally fullfills the expectations :dance4: :dance4:

    Thanks again to the boards-advice :praise2: :praise2: :praise2:

Been using R Tape for a few years now, really is the best stuff.

I am very loyal to the Oracal brand normally, but have had a whinge a few times to my distributors here in Oz. Our humidity is so high, after a day the oracal just falls off or loses its tack.

    Poly tape is worse tho.

I agree ‘R’ Tape is the best. I’ve used it for well over 18 months now and personally I couldn’t go back to using standard app. tape!

    RLA 4075 is the stuff 😉 @ http://www.rtape.com

Yup I only use r-tape. Guess I was lucky, was suggested by my first vinyl supplier and I’m so happy with it I haven’t even thought about trying anything else 😀

Same here, been using R-Tape Conform for the past few years and have no intention of switching to anything else – have used various different brands in the past and always had problems.

Only negative comment about R-Tape is the fact that when you are at the end of the roll (last 10-15%), it is wound up pretty tight and can be pretty hard to unroll it, specially when using the wider rolls.

I am looking for a new supplier of R tape as Andersons have stopped supplying it, any suggestions please.

    Thanks

    Dave,

As Mark says Hexis do it, as do Metamark. Not sure of others off hand.

I disagree, it lays flat but I found it caused lots of static that lifted the vinyl of the bench and combined with it’s glue which doesn’t seem to be pressure sensitive I just had lots of badly masked or ruined stuff.

would like to get one thing straight in my mind before going on with this subject, is “Conform” made by “R Tape”?………… because it’s conform i swear by & I think it’s made by R Tape.

Have had to send back 2 full logs of Oracle before now as lettering virtually fell off the tape, very annoying.

Not disagreeing with you but i think you will find that yours was or is part of a bad batch, don’t let it put you off conform.

my previous post says that i sent back 2 full logs of Oracle, correction….I bought 4 logs on the strength of other peoples opinion on uksb, people swearing by it etc, turned out a big mistake as like you said caused a great deal of problems. Because of this i won’t use it anymore, maybe a shame for Oracle as it might have been a bad batch.

I do like the R tape conform stuff because it stays down and doesn’t curl at the edges, but we also noticed static, graghic sort jumped at it , but we also just changed work top to glass so didn’t know who or what was the cause 🙄 🙄

It’s a shame though Peter as the 751 cast is a brilliant product, even their rep agrees that the app tape isn’t up to much.

I found oracle app tape somehow not sticky enough, I had to spend extra time and care when removing the backing, the graphics were staying behind, especially smaller serif stuff, at one point I thought that it may have been the vinyl that was the problem, but as they were both oracle, they should have been compatable.

I still have a couple of rolls on the shelf, so I will only use it on large stuff

I actually insisted that the rep came here to visit, best thing i ever did as he left samples of materials i didn’t know existed, such as “silhouette” which is a 5 mm matte foamboard white on one side & black on the other, 8’x4′ £12 each, cheaper in bulk. It is designed for mounting prints onto. mainly exhibition work.
Ring them & ask him to call Lynn.

PS you even get a bright yellow plastic briefcase to put all the samples into.

    I agree, R-type is the best, with it’s retro side-scrolling shoot-em-up action, 😛
