Change the setting to cut only with the alignment marks still on, and set return to origin after cut. Remove the blade holder so it does not cut!

Thanks that’s the bit every thing else ok understand ..pain to do but clever work around

Lee how are you managing to register the second side other than just setting a Base point and aligning the front edge
With my old sc540 and colour rip I can do it well but not with the vs and vw

    Hi Jason

I run roland white what you are thinking will not work on the vs the vinyl will be a soggy mess to try to handle the white is just not opaque enough
Would have thought the edge could do it
Can’t comment on the uv lec would need to go to Rolands and prove it
Any more info give me a ring

Due to the cross contamination I would have a close look at the pump system also if on your machine check the spit sponge is not rubbing the head
When I fit new dampers I make sure the pipe sits all the way in and that the o ring is free to slide on the pipe before tightening the nut gently

As it has a clear backing print in draft mode on to paper the design.

Quite probably the head and bi direction adjustments may be a bit off causing the colour shift as greys are made of all colours until about 70% then starts to use black.
I would double check these else you will be chasing around with profile settings for every shade of grey plus you said it’s changed recently

    quote :

With the logos they do the job but football teams have said that they sweat a lot because of their rigidness and lack of breathing.

cant see the difference between that and the big numbers on there back or have i missed something

understand what you are trying to consider but the whole idea is that the transfer only picks up where there was toner i use a system from sun angle which is similar, you can use a clear toner and that will then pick up white backing same price a s white toner system.

because the backing transfer is white where toner is used it picks up the white backing so printing any colour other than white on a standard laser will go on to a dark shirt very well yes bright yellow on a blue or black shirt
never tried it on a poly subed shirt for that we use subli block and solvent print and cut which works well enough

Pain in the neck during damp weather do as much as you can to reduce humidity .
Don’t think that the older 300 has the adjustment have a look in the manual will stand corrected on that
Things that help is don’t let the machine pull the media off the roll allow some slack
Pre feed the material over the heater for the amount being used for that job
Don’t let the media sit loaded too long before printing

    Merry Christmas

December 18, 2015 at 12:13 am in reply to: Media Clamps – pause between printing and cutting?

One of my biggest gripes about the vs is the head assembly at standard height is how close it is to the media I run mine with the head on high now all the time any loss of quality is only noticed on very fine small lettering so just go normal for that
Those heads are too expensive and I think more easily scratched damaged than the older dx4 type

  • Chris Wool

December 17, 2015 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Media Clamps – pause between printing and cutting?

The vs is different from all the older machines
    Short clamps not available
If the clamps are fitted you can not do a cross cut
A lot of people have the blade sticking out of the holder far too much causing it to catch the clamp which damages the tip of the blade. You will probably see the scratch mark on the clamp
When you fit the blade holder don’t push it all the way down to the shoulder have it about 1mm higher this will allow for thicker laminated jobs and use of the clamps

I was going to say a fuse blown but you put the old head back and it worked so tick that box
Possible the head rank of the head is saying it’s a water type not solvent.
I have used a couple of heads over the years from the Epson 10000 with out problems in a roland but the head rank was entered
As you say you have pulled ink through the head to the capping does sound like the head is fried but both at the same time? ???

Pleased ok now it does sound like it was contaminated and the ink used to change the dampers has flushed it out

    Not good
Have a very close look at the white print do you think the blue is mixed in or a very fine over spray. Is there any evidence of blue next the the white print. Static can cause this if you are lucky

November 4, 2015 at 11:38 pm in reply to: VS-640 White looks light blue issue – help please?

I would have thought the test print to small to check with
As the blue part of the head is next to the white part it’s not uncommon to have a blue contaminate in the white normally due to the cap top
Make a new file say oblong and colour it rdgwhite in vw use self adhesive clear and select white only.
Rip the file and look in the print history it will say what ink has been used
And look at the file you are struggling with it just should say only white used

Last time that happened to mine had to change the damper and cap top. So a bit paranoid about it happening again
I have found that the cap top must be changed at least every 6 months even if it looks OK.
Look at the pipeline near the damper does it have a blue tint

When using white or silver as it’s doing its initial ink dump and clean I pour about two tea spoons of cleaning fluid on the cap top as it’s sucking dry as have had a pipe block as well
For your problem I might try a new cap top and one power clean

    Hugh
In the feed direction different thickness materials really need to be calibrated as to distance instructed to do and the result.
In our normal work how often do you check that a 1000 mm length has been cut 1000mm it’s probably a couple of mm out
Most plotters are accurate with standard materials out of the box only when you start jobs like yours will you notice the problem.
The roland and other print and cut machines using reg marks adjust the cut distance after laminating because of the new thickness.

Load some material but but a pen in and tell it to draw a 1000mm line then measure it.
You can alter the lettering in coral or tell the graphtec in the settings
    Distance traveled adjustment
If you measure the line to be 1005 mm it’s. 05% out in the X or feed direction
Across the plotter the measurements will always be correct
If you get stuck ring me.
Other thing is the measurements that show up of text in corel Inc the leading control node and to get the correct length you need to convert the text to curves to loose the node distance

    As rob says
Plus you probably have duel pressure rollers so make sure that they are the same.
Pull enough media through evenly so it nearly touches the floor then lower the roller and set up as the media returns watch for run off
If I was doing 3 m I would pre feed that amount to check before cutting
To help fast move is normally arrow key and next button if I remember correctly

Providing there is no slippage of the material then all down to calibration of the different thickness of materials.
Quick get out of jail is if just one line of text is to print cut all materials across the plotter

We run our vs on the high head setting most of the time the standard height in my opinion is too close for general use
    .
even the slightest buckling was causing slightly smudged prints let alone the increased risk of head damage.
Some manufacturers of vinyls are worse for it than others as the backing paper absobing moisture
I would check the actual bed temperature compared to the read out and that media roll holder only has a small resistance.

john as far as i know the felt is only for the white and or silver colours should be changed if you see a build up of gooey ? ink.

the rubber type one should be cleaned as part of your normal cleaning to remove drying ink so they can wipe clean, plus i always add a couple of tea spoons of cleaning fluid to the capping station as it is going through its final suck of the cleaning cycle.
this stops the heavy inks from blocking the pipe work and pump.

i am really surprised that roland has not wanted it back to sort it out for you been going on too long

you could try and pull some ink through connect a siringe to the captop pipe where it joins the punp and slow steady pull you are also checking for a air leak.. if there is a air leak then the pumps will not be cleaning the heads

other posibility is the head fuse on the motherboard has blown.

The original sponge does swell with age and can rub the head causeing poor print you can cut down a kitchen type pad but some melt with the solvent ink have you asked Roland for the part

not loog ago had to change the head on my VS roland, i followed all the threads i could find and desided that there was too much hear say and that the width restriction did exsist with chips being produced to overcome the problem. you try and buy them joke
in the end bought all the real ones paid through the nose by comparison but it worked as it should back to earning money quickly.

very few people are getting round the problem because a one point duing production the limits where bought in so early heads worked later did not.

some of the chinese wide format printers have found away john thompson may know more about that.

Ive noticed the lines in the 7000 laminate but it seams to go but not colour changing patches.
Would expect that to be a high spot on the roller.

if you see grain then the resolution may not be high enough needs to be about 720 x 720 dpi printing res. the number of passes needs to be about 8

banding need to see a nozel test print and you should have a test for the feed rate adjustment.

if you have head height adjustment it should not be on high for normal vinyls only thicker banner materials.

not a bad idea thought about it a couple of times. but
after a power cut and the power comes back on the printer will not come alive again needs the sub power button to be pressed. so keeping it live with the UPS is good, if it happens while printing the ups wont stand the heater consumption.
i would not worry if it happened in the middle of the night, it being off for several hours should not be a problem, several days will be.

Listening to what you have to say or ask I would recommend you call a engineer in as I have a feeling it could cost you a lot more.

you could try pre press europe and alter the tone curve for the dark end to give a bit more detail.

but imo vw just compresses the image to much losing detail but gaining in colours and being on canvas does not help either.

there are two different print and cut alignments one is just print and cut the other is cropmarks to cut.

a small bleed will help you as said
over what area was the print and cut
did the first cut be in the correct place and wander off a bit further in to the cutting.
print with two rollers cut with as many as you can
if a earlier machine have you done a environment check latly

can never remember which but you should see the bad effect in the preview

to do with a mix of rgb shadow and cmyk background if sending as a cmyk from corel change in the eps export to rgb.

    also the printer needs calibrating

is there a colour missing ?

just had to change my vs head not too dis similar problem, so roland may well be right.

its not difficult but with the expense of the head involved unless you are confident with working on these machines see a tech.

as stafford says try so new cap tops as its mostly deflecting. as a tip for the future give the carts a shake now and again especially if 400 ones

    start saving

in the mean time think you are using colourrip increase to 720×720 by 16 pass or 8 pass if using 4 pass may hide the problem.

agree with Kevin response extra note, test print 3 shows that the vinyl is sticking to the bed or media flange and or feed rate incorrect for that material.

with the older sc pros you will probably find the sub frame that holds the head in place has stuck to the cage with old ink and not move as it should, making adjustments impossible.. until cleaned up.
