  • Vinyl Fitting Temperature – advice required, please?

Posted by Daniel Taylor on April 1, 2015 at 7:02 am

Hi Guys, I signed a few vehicles up in our warehouse in which the temerature was around 10 degrees or less as the weathers shocking at the moment… Only to leave the warehouse in perfect condition to recieve a phone call off the client the following day saying the vinyl was starting to lift… mainly the reflective vinyl! I believe the culprit was the warehouse temperature in which i fitted the vehicles in, as the adhesive initally stuck but failed to bond …. am i right? So the vans are coming back and im going to have to go over it with a heat gun and squeegee.

I think 10 deg is the min application on most spec sheets but possibly a wax issue

    Hi Daniel,

13 degrees ambient temp especially if you are applying to any curved areas or putting strain on the vinyl.

Would also advise you keep vehicle in overnight following install at this time of year to allow vinyl to cure.

Did you heat the reflective after applying to help adhesion? – What make / spec you using?

Hi Gil, Thanks for your response. They wanted them urgently so dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon, the reflective we used was ‘Oralite’ Orange reflective… once i went over it with a powerful heatgun it made a tremendous difference. Im thinking of swithching my materials to ‘METAmark/METAscape’ performance cast vinyl… Heard nothing but good things.I’d upload a picture if i knew how too Ha!And in all honesty i think the room temp was below 10 degrees. Cheers
