Remember not to have the water to cold, when you dunk the mug, or it could make the handle crack away from the mug, and never place under a running cold tap you can hear the mug go 👿 Been there and learnt the hard way.

You must be near us if you know Cymau!!! We live high up but not as high as Bwlchgwyn, but if it snows I cant even get out of the drive as it is steep uphill, so the kids get the day off. I love having them at home once in a while, we have great snowball fights :lol1: The schools seem over keen to send them home at the slightest sign of snow. Thing is it can be snowing by me and we can have 3 inches, go down the hill to Wrexham and they can have nothing, its weird.

Same here. when we lived in Clawddnewydd it would be snowing there but a couple of miles down the road at Pool Park there would be none whatsoever.

The mists now reached us up the hill, can’t see Bryn SM anymore or come to that the trees at the end of the field either 🙄

I know what you mean about hills 👿 when we take the caravan out we have to reverse down the drive, then it’s downhill and round a hairpin until the bottom, only trouble is we then have another short steep hill to get to the main road.

But I still wouldn’t change where we live for anything. 😎 😀

Blue sky above, mist along the valley floor. Coal man delivered supplies this am, luckily we’re on the sunny side of the hills, so the frost does disappear for part of the day. Chris has the studded tyres ready to go on the car 😮

Bad news is when the snow comes the school bus doesn’t 👿

Not far from you Jayne, can remember all the Wrexham based kids going home from school sooner than us, due to some of them living in Cymau etc. made us quite jealous.

I have one mug which lived in the dishwasher for 18months. Dishwasher is a hot fill version, and the mug still looks as good as the day it went in there. I only use Listawood mugs and their inks, having lived through the Sawgrass clogging era and also the older non dishwasher proof coatings (which faded faster than fast thing). Things have definately improved over the last few years.

    Hi Lee,

I asked this question to a subli supplier last year. They could coat them for you, but if they are the same as the ones I had the rolled lip at the top could cause problems.

I would think pad printing would be the way to go.

Another thought I’ve also recently been using Grafityps grafijuice, and the results again are excellent, I apply with a foam brush, first one direction then crossways over this. Need to use in a cool area or it dries to quick and doesn’t get the chance to find own level and smooth out, also helps to smooth out the lines which occur from printing with the PC60/600.

Best of all whilst still wet you can wash out the brush with normal soap and water.

Thanks for the help Phil, Nik & Shane – I’ll have a go on Monday at printing/cutting. I only want to do small runs of labels etc on it. May try the garment film from Victory, that you can use with this system.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

    Once again ‘Thanks’ 😀 😀 😀

    Lee

    Hi Lee,

I recently used the Victory print film, results are excellent, but be sure the transfer has totally cooled down (i.e. colder than a cold thing ! 🙂 ) or you’ll end up with some adhesive left on it.

Other down side is it will curl at the edges 🙁 , they do say you need to print then apply transfer film, and replace to cut, but since the PC60 doesn’t have optical can be a bit hit and miss on this. I’m still waiting for a sample of their other film, which hopefully should resolve this.

OH and don’t forget to wipe vinyl with ISO before printing, and remember to clean the head with the pen after use.

Unless it has changed over the past year you can only use sublimation printing onto white or ash grey t-shirts. They need to be either dedicated sublimation t-shirts (colours should show vivid) or at least a 50/50 polyester content (colours will not be as vivid).

You can use Epson photo quality inkjet paper, or sublimation paper. It is the inks which will transfer into the polyester content of the t-shirt and no trace of paper/glossy layer will be present – if you get my drift.

That sounds more like a fault in the coating. Try one from further down in the box, if the same fault get in contact with your supplier and let them know. I’ve had a few problem mugs over the years and all have been replaced with no problems.

By the way I had one do the same the other day, when you look closely at the coating you can see tiny specs where bubbles have burst.

Try to check round each mug before applying transfer – I forgot with the one above 🙂

I would say the 1290 is the route to go (says she with a C84), but would recommend the bulk ink system with it, since the 1290 only utilises 2 cartridges, and you can guarantee one of the colours will run out before the others, it should also be cheaper on the learning curve.

There is a product for normal inkjet transfer for dark tees, or Victory Design sell one called Darkjet sublimation for dark tees.

Couple of places you might like to enquire from would be Listawood Trade Supplies, Victory Design or The Transferpress.

Listawood and Transferpress supply Rotech Inks
    Victory Design supply Lyson Inks
The Transferpress also supply Tropical Graphics ArTanium inks.

Xpress also do similar products and may be worth a shout.

I currently use Rotech Inks and have for the past 2+ years, and can’t fault them, the black is a pure black on the substrates I transfer onto.

The wax ribbons need to be used with transfer paper for transfer onto fabrics. They are similar to the older Alps/Citizen ribbons.

You can obtain the correct paper from various suppliers.

I’ve still got my old Citizen Printiva, it prints quite well onto paper, but then it is only A4 in size. I’ve used it for tees (hence the correct transfer paper) and prints (due to its longevity in UV life).

    Hi Rich,

If the logos are simple you could always use the PC60 to cut them. The Transfer vinyl with the sticky backing is brilliant if you need small lettering. Xpres do a printable vinyl for T-shirt transfer, suggest you give them a ring, or try The Transferpress, they also do a range of goods.

    Shane

So if someone buys a cutter and intends to cover the market area a lot of signmakers have no wish to get involved in you consider them to be a cowboy.

When I bought my PC60 I did not buy it with the intention of making signs, I knew I should leave that area of the business to those people who know and make their living from that. How many times have we seen the comment “Yes it good for short runs, and labels”.

Over the years I have seen many signmakers entering the Sublimation side of business, yes this is diversifying, but what about the people out there who have built up their business offering this product. From this viewpoint surely timeserved and experienced signmakers can then also be classed as “cowboys”.

Done some in Swedish using Corel 11. You type in the word up to the symbol you need then then using Text – Insert character, you choose the font you are using and find the correct letter in the drop down.

It would all be down to the size and finsih of the tiles. You also need to take into account the cost of each transfer. If you haven’t got one already you will also need a silicone mat (this helps with the contours on the tile) to press them.

Don’t forget you could also use the printer to increase your range of products, i.e. mouse mats, keyrings etc. this would help in the long run to offset the initial costs.

At only £12.00 per pack it’s worth experimenting with.

I have the inkjet version, which I picked up at the NEC at the same time as the Printwear & Promotion. They didn’t have the lazer version with them at the show.

It says on the packet that the transfer will dry with a white eggshell background. To make it clear you had to apply a clear oil based polyurethane varnish.

    Hi Brian,

I’ve read the horror stories connected with the Geo Knight as well, but haven’t experienced that problem (keeping my fingers crossed though, and a lot of other things 😛 )

I’ve also read good things about the support you’d receive from TG, which I would say is on a par with Listawoods support. I had some problems with a C80 printer about 12 months ago and Listawood were fantastic with their customer support, that is one of my reasons for staying with Rotech inks.

I’ve lived with the Sawgrass clogging, and believe me it was a nightmare, this was in the days when the only other option you had was to buy inks from the states, this was using a Stylus 850 and the cartridges then cost a small fortune. Finding you’d used up a whole black cartridge and not been able to even get a good nozzle check was really deflating, I was on the point of giving up with dye-sub, then found out through my own research that Lyson were marketing their new dye-sub product. Cheaper and manufactured in the UK. Like I said in my other post though their black was disappointing.

Then at one of Printwear & Promotion shows came across Listawood and Rotech Inks, well as they say the rest is history. I’ve stuck with the company and Rotech inks since then.

Pistonheads was my first port of call when I’d decided what I wanted to look for. This car never even made it to being advertised.

I’d gone to look at a Chimaera (yes I know a different beast) but a lot of the Griffiths were either to expensive or I didn’t want to take the risk of private sale with no warranty, I’m sure this car was sitting there waiting for me to turn up, honest.

    Hi Brian,

I use the Geo Knight Digital Combo and have been well pleased with it.

On the inks side, I used Lyson for a short time, but found the black not a strong black (if you get my meaning) I now use Rotech with their ICC profile and colours work fine.

I’ve yet to try Pauls inks, but a lot of people in the states seem to.

I would say it all comes down to whichever you’re happy with in the end,
since from reading there’s very little end difference between them.

If you’ve paid for the mugs, and they are faulty, you should have no problem getting replacements (which should work properly) or even request a credit to use against other products.

Curious now, if you’ve got a MugPro Press and the mugs from NovaChrome how come you are using Rotech Inks? Did you buy your printer elsewhere or from NovaChrome?

Sounds like you could possibly have a batch of uncured mugs. Epson photo paper should not stick to the mug at all, correct side is brighter white side.

I stopped using NovaChrome mugs a couple of years ago, I now get my mugs from Listawood.

Using my Mug Pro Press I cook for 2.75min at 370deg, with enough pressure that there is resistance when closing the press.

Are you letting the mugs air cool, a better way is immerse in luke warm water (don’t use ice cold or you risk either cracking the handle off the mug or the mug itself).

It might be worth looking at Xpress new range of subli papers.

They do one called subli dark which can be applied to cotton + poly/cotton.

As usual have the sample but not yet tried.

May be worth the cost of a phone call for you.

    Thanks Chris & Phil,

I tried the main switch but it didn’t solve anything. I’ve also downloaded the firmware version 3.1 from the roland site, but a bit apprehensive about trying to install, just in case there is more of a problem and end up rendering the machine even more useless than it is at present. The machine doesn’t even initialise itself, just goes straight into the flashing light sequence. Worked fine when I turned it off last.

Did put in a new cartridge in holder 2, but still the same problem. The only other LPT devices attached are QMS Laser printer and Epson 1520 though a switch box. But should still be able to do a test without PC60 being attached to computer.

    Hi Outline,

The green mat is like Lorraine says used when pressing hard substrates, i.e. tiles, plaques etc.
It does not need to be used for t-shirts. But use some form of blow out paper between the lower platen and between the transfer and upper platen, minimises contamination when transferring.

I use some old A3 paper (got to tatty to be of any use otherwise)

Would also recommend purchasing a couple of teflon sheets approx £7-10(available from various suppliers).

There is currently some experimenting going on the USA using a product call Softee transfer paper. Visit http://www.dyesub.org and do a search on “softee”, results so far look rather promising.

Whether we are able to get this paper over this side of the pond I’m not sure, but if more of us shout loudly they might hear us. 😆

My C80 was running Rotech inks from the start (after running the OEM through for a while). As soon as Listawood released the C80 cartridges I went out and purchased the C80. I had the first batch of problematic cartridges (when inks seemed to disappear into thin air) and had only gone through 3 sets of cartridges when the printer would no longer print anything. On investigation we found the head and ribbon damage. In all honesty I put it down to a Monday Morning/Friday afternoon build, and Listawood were very helpful. That’s why I’ve stayed with Rotech and since there aren’t a lot of options for subli printers Epson too.

These chipped cartridges are a real PITA in my opinion.

    [quote="Allan Weyman"]Dewi,

Incidently Sharon mentioned buying or trying to buy the C82 (Epson) printer. Well I have the earlier C80 for dye-sub and I can endorse it at a very reliable piece of kit for the job. I was most suprised that Xpess stopped doing carts for this machine but carry on doing the multi colour carts for the Epson 895 etc. range, siting unreliablity problems (rubbish).

My reason for going for the C82 was to replace my C80 (less than 12 months old and burnt out head and cable ribbon 👿 ) I’d been using an Epson 850 for 2.5 years with no problems, other than cost, and multiple head cleans with SG inks.

I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when it came to getting my colour laser. Had gone in to PC World Chester to get a new C82 for subli and as usual took a look around the clearance section. Sitting there in a trolley was a QMS Magicolour 2200, marked as having no toner (all colours were in fact approx 75% full) no cable (no problem) no drivers (again no problem) best part was the price £150.00 plus fully guaranteed for 12 months. Bad part was didn’t notice the oil fuser roller was missing, but since it was not included in the list of missing parts PC World stumped up for that.

Have tried Xpress t-shirt transfer paper and it seems to double print, so tend not to use it for that at present. Also does this on thick card stock (160 gsm) then have to run a couple of pages through to clear up stray toner – anyone have any theories on this?

Have used it so far for printing small logos for applying onto glass candle holders, worked a treat. Used Avery Heavy Duty Laser Labels (polyester based) resiliant to grease, oil, water, detergent, dirt and UV. Not cheap but I obtained them originally for under bonnet stickers.

Same situation here, ordered some parts for the cars Monday, they’ll be with tomorrow they said. In all fairness to company they did send the goods out on Monday. Tuesday morning came and went, called company, yes they’d left them at 4.20pm monday. Nothing arrived. Wednesday morning came and went contacted company again, the parcel had gone to Oldham, then Cleveland. Returned to main depot at Coventry today (Thursday) and will be returned to the parts people tomorrow. They will then ship them out to me again.

    Don’t you just love ParcelFarce.

Whilst out at the weekend, perused the new Vangelis CD, thought about it for a while and put back on the shelf. Matthew wanted a particular album so we went into one of the smaller record stores, Vangelis was being played so ended up buying it anyway! along with someone called something along the lines of Riders of the Crypt (this is the one Matthew wanted) very raw rock. Ahh, the memories of playing “Heaven and Hell” in the middle of Clocaenog Forest waiting for the Rally Cars to arrive.

Never had any problems with Rotech ink clogging on the C82 or the C80 when I had that. Did the printer work alright with the original Epson cartridges? What paper are you using to print?

Are you using a bulk ink system?

As you can see there could be a lot of factors involved.

I worked as a legal secretary for 5 years, then took computer course at local college, was offered job with firm then called Rexham (UK) stayed there in the accounts/computer section for 7 years (until first child came along). Went back to work when Claire was 4 worked as part time clerk typist at local Mental Hospital (now closed and looking very much worse for wear). Did the usual Mum thing for a while, then started a few craft fairs but got fed up with 3Ps (Pick up, put down, p*** off). Saw an advert in a computer magazine about sublimation printers, looked into this bought the equipment and have been expanding options ever since. But my main business is sublimation and T-shirt printing. I tend to leave all the serious signs to all the people who know 🙂

    Hi Momentoes,

I also use the Mug Pro Press, and print the earthenware mugs from Listawood at 370 deg. for 2.75mins. and have no problems with the result. This temp and time has been in use since I changed to Rotech over 12 months ago, 1 of my first mugs I did with these inks still lives in the dishwasher, and though slight fade the image is still clear and sharp.

I use the text and photo setting for the C82 printer driver (appears to equate to approx 720dpi which for vectors is fine) for photos etc. I use the photo option (appears to equate to 1440dpi), I personally think anything higher is wasting ink.

I have the Rotech ICC profile set up for this printer, and colours come out fine, admittedly lately all I’m seeing is RED (due to Ruby Anniversary for Car Club 😮 )

On the pressure side with the Mug Pro, you need not too much resistance when you close the press (i.e. small amount of pressure needs to be applied to the handle to close the press).

Which mug press are you using?

Time, temp and pressure are critical with mugs.

Like Martin said the transfer must be tight around the mug otherwise it does give a faded look, and if the ink is not dry you can experience blow out (feathering around edges, or nice flame effect up the mug )

The white side of the paper should be facing you when you look at the printer, what resolution are you using? Did you set the correct paper type in the driver? These factors can affect your print out.

Don’t worry about the strange colours after printing this is normal for dye-sub, and they change upon pressing.

Another thing I just thought of have you done a nozzle check to make sure there are no gaps in your printout? This is a must for every time you start up a dye-sub printer, it not only saves time, but ink in the long run since you don’t have wasted printouts.

Afraid I don’t know of any software which would give racing car outlines either, why don’t you use the tried and trusted method of taking a digital pictures covering all the angles you need. It would then be possible to vectorise this in your spare time and you’ll have it for eternity.

Plus with all the variations between FF it would be the wisest method.
