why is the pc60 lights flashing constantly when powered on?

the error code is something like a firmware check problem
roland tech might give you the code to reset the firmware else its bust and needs the doctor
have you tried switching off the MAIN switch (on the left end plate) wait at least a min then switch main on then sub main switch on might work

I think this is an indication that a cartidge code is being selected that isn’t there. e.g it is looking for a bar code that isn’t present in the range of cartidges you’ve got loaded into the machine. It’s Possible you have the correct colour of cartidge loaded but the bar code is not being read by the machine (if it isn’t stuck down properly for example).

If it’s happening before you’ve even sent your print/cut to the colorcamm, check that you haven’t got another program running that uses your LPT1 port. For example, do you use a scanner off this port, and change the cable whenever you go to use the PC60? Make sure the scanner software is closed down as it may still be communicating with the LPT1 port and therefore sending the wrong information to your PC60

I tried the main switch but it didn’t solve anything. I’ve also downloaded the firmware version 3.1 from the roland site, but a bit apprehensive about trying to install, just in case there is more of a problem and end up rendering the machine even more useless than it is at present. The machine doesn’t even initialise itself, just goes straight into the flashing light sequence. Worked fine when I turned it off last.

Did put in a new cartridge in holder 2, but still the same problem. The only other LPT devices attached are QMS Laser printer and Epson 1520 though a switch box. But should still be able to do a test without PC60 being attached to computer.

Have you tried switching on your PC60 with the connection to the computer disconnected? (Make sure you have switched the PC60 off first – then disconect the lead before switching it back on) This would answer whether or not the problem being anything to do with your computer. If the problem goes away when disconnected then there is something communicating through your printer port – re-booting the computer should resolve it.

ok this is a bit long winded but here goes………..

when the machine is turned on it goes through certain procedures.

1) the pc60 does a DRAM check (if no good then all lights blink 5 times and roll and cart 1 blink once.

2)the pc60 copys the firmware to the DRAM from the flash memory (if no good then all lights blink 5 times and front cover and cartridge one blink once.

3)pc60 does the firmware program SUM CHECK. (if this is no good then all lights blink 5 times and front cover and cartridge 2 blink once.

i think 3) is what you are discribing.

Hi – sorry to resurrect this old post, but i’m hoping to save an old relic from going to printer heaven and it looks like some of you guys have knowledge of these (even though it might be rusty on these oldies!) ❓

I have a PC60 that will not even start to initialise.
It was working fine one day and then stopped the next.
When powering up there is no movement or sound from the machine at all.
Just get all lights flashing for about 5 seconds and then the "ROLL" and "CART1" lights flash
I believe that this might be to do with the initial DRAM check but haven’t any info about how to resolve
I have tried it both connected to a computer and with no lead connected and also with / without ribbons installed – same result?

Any help will be much appreciated :praiseyou:
