Havent really had any strange or different from norm payments yet …. not sure what I would do if anyone offered themselves or their body for payment ….. apart from saying no obviously 😮 :lol1: We have done two contra deals … one for a radio advertisement and the other for computers, never a guitar or drum kit yet …. well not yet anyway!

i do it all the time.. 😛

i letter a local builders vans, for him in return to service my vans,(he has a full time mechanic available) 😛 also a local painter, put side lines on his van for him, to paint the wood on my house, and another guy, who is an electrician, i fix his pc!! 😀 fab… 😛 (there is more, but cannot remember them all…it’s a wonder i make any money eh!!) 😉

I signed a couple of trucks for an insulation company, and they insulated my parents roof cavity, I have swapped signs by having my office security alarmed, rust removed from my old work van and repainted in a new colour, my car being serviced, a day out for my family at a fun park, my new van being totally fitted out by a trimmer, suspension work done, plastering, plumbing, …….

I guess you have worked out I do a bit of that. In truth tho, I usually make the offer to businesses that need new signs but have not got the money. You’ll find just about any business will take a contra if you make the offer. Just got to watch the tax man thats all. 👿

Qantas here are a big contra company. I have been told that some of the suppliers take money and air tickets for payments. Obviously does not cost qantas that much for the tickets, but the supplier has got to buy tickets anyway, so they may as well fly Qantas.

I am putting a new kitchen in my house this month, and am paying the cabinet maker 75% cash/25% signage. Works well for us both. He needs a new sign for his factory, and I need a new kitchen. 😛

Mate been in Bartercard here since 1992. Used to be a great idea, but the system only works well if the cash economy is struggling.

I have advised Bartercard that we will be withdrawing from the system by the end of the year (got to spend my credits 1st).

The biggest problem is that not all companies trade fair. Here in australia a lot of companies double their price which defeats the purpose.

Personally I’d advise you against going into it, because you get caught in having to buy overpriced products, rarely useable in business. It means you end up buying personal purchases (restaurants etc) that you can not claim as a business expense (here in OZ anyway) and it goes on your personal income tax.

In the early days, we could buy a lot of products for the business, but now very rarely anything that I can use.

I cash converted very well until a few years ago, but now it is hard as there is good business in the cash economy, so people are not that keen on barter dollars. I used to buy printing on barter for my clients, pay in trade, and charge in cash.

I have had some bent bits on my van re-jiged in return for some vinyl cut. Aluminium signs sprayed for emptying a septic tank.
At the moment I am having a wall built at my house in return for business cards and van signage.

Where I live tradesmen are thin on the ground, so helping each other is a good way to get work done quicker or even done at all !!

Last year I was 5 months without a gas fire in our living room because no one would come and connect it. One of the prices you pay for living in more remote areas.

Yes we barter a little bit Patio doors Plants for pots and baskets. meat from the butcher all local all kept local we all have to take care of our local communitys other wise we won’t have them, I would sooner go down my local high street and they know who I am and also know I’m getting good stuff mostly they only do good stuff not always cheapest, my sister came down to stay for a day or two she was so impressed that the butcher said oh hi Lynn you ok? how’s Peter she shops at the big supermarkets and don’t know her from adam. keep it local

I agree Lynn, I feel that if we want the local community to deal with us, we should deal with the local community.

You may not get the absolute best prices, but you eventually develope associations that money can’t buy.

I get the odd free meal, been given discounts on furniture and bizarrely offered a few massages, which I tried out, but it was just very weird 🙄 Few pints at the pubs, oh and I got my hair cut for free once 😀

Best thing I’ve ever been paid for with though was booze, I did some diddy signs for an off license, had known the gent for ages so I said call it a fiver and a smile. I never did get the smile, but I got the fiver and a couple of bottles of decent wine thrown in, so I can live without the smile! 😀

Applied a graphic 6″ x 18″ in the window of the tyre shop at the top of my road, the owner had got it from someone else as supply only and tried to fit it himself – made a right pigs ear of it, but he got it off ok and back onto the backing paper.
job took me 5 mins max and got my wheels balanced on the car FOC – so that was ok 😀

However you cant beat working for cash – bartercard dont have mortgage companies on their books!
