    Hi Hugh,

Thanks for the comments 😀 I use a technique call HDR. Basically I take 3 shots at different exposures, for example 1 underexposed, 1 overexposed and one exposed correctly, combine them to create a HDR image and then tone map the image so it can be displayed correctly on a monitor.

I go well overboard with the tone mapping to create a gritty evil look 👿

    Cheers

    Hello 😳

I’m still around, not doing much signage anymore though 🙁

Getting into my togging a lot more which is great but doesn’t pay the bills so have a full time no signmaker job although these may change soon 😀

    Take care all

    Hey Paul,

Peter is sound, he has some really good advice 🙂

Could be a memory prob on the PCUT? Is it UK spec? I’ve heard some PCUT have a lessor memory than the UK ones. Could be a OS problem, what OS you using, what interface is on your PCUT?

to quote the Price it site –

    quote :

The guide is aimed at the average size company who’s main market is ‘general sign making’ i.e. the company that today is making a shop sign, tomorrow lettering a van, the day after a banner and pavement sign etc, etc,

I agree every job is different, hence why I mentioned its not an exact science.

I’ve never said it should be used to quote from, like I mentioned, its a guide and thats its point 🙂

I agree the idea behind it is great and its canny good as guide to help us newbies. 🙂

Thats the key though, its a guide. I could be wrong but I don’t think its meant to be an exact science, just like sign making isn’t.

Its not causing me too much concern as its only a small point in the vinyl, plus its only just started to happen this morning. just wanted to get my head round it (?)

No No the fault only occurs at one point in the vinyl, say I’m cutting 610mm there is a point at about 325mm where the vinyl is just scored and not fully cut through, this is only for about 1mm, after that everything else cuts fine.

It doesn’t matter what letter or if its a circle or box.

  • Garrie

    Member
May 10, 2007 at 10:54 am in reply to: Symptoms of a worn Cutting strip?

ahh but I’m kak handed and possibly managed to chew it up when I first got the cutter.

The slight issue I have and its only just started is there is a point of text that doesn’t cut, for example like the right side of a H, this happens at the same point all the way through a few metres of vinyl, all the other text is fine, does this sound like a cutting strip issue, I’m sure it is from what you guys say.

Its kinda like a low spot as the vinyl is scored but not cut through all the way, I know its not the pressure as all the other text is fine.

    Cheers again

Yeah, providing your car in worth over 10k and has a valid MOT (if needed). If the Vehicle is less then 10k there is the "normal" hot hatch days.

Hot Marquee is better, more expensive cars, people obey the track rules and treat other drivers with a little more respect.

Thanks Lorraine, so I would heat press the red first, remove the clear backing, stick the green down and press again?

Would this cause any effect to the red I already pressed, as the red in this example wouldn’t be covered with the clear plastic, or do I put the clear plastic over the whole lot? Does that make sense, lol

    Hiya,

We pretty do what John advises however we press the shirt for about 10 seconds before applying the Flex, I’ve heard this helps to remove any moisture in the cotton.

Don’t mean to hi-jack the thread but can someone please advise how to do multi coloured layers of flex? For example a Diamond shape outline in red with green text in the middle, however throughout the green text would be red circles, something like below?

    Hi,

I’m only young at this stuff, however…

We send Visuals via Email or post, the Customer always has to approve visual either via email or signed if sent in post, we then print the email or print a copy of the signed visual, a copy of this info is kept with the job card.

We find colours are easier if you send a sample, what we usually do is send a visual and include a separate carded visual with actual off cut samples of the vinyl colours used.

We don’t do digi yet as we are only small small and as yet no had any issues.

    I hope this may help.

    Cheers

P.s. For what its worth on all our Visuals we have the standard disclaimer, advise if our artwork is used elsewhere we will charge for design time etc

    Hi,

We actually have a little heat press we sourced from Ebay. We don’t do a lot of clothing but its nice to have to do T Shirts etc. The press we’ve got is great, very very heavy duty and the build quality is great, it also has a CE mark, which many presses on ebay don’t have. If buying it’s best to double check with the seller. We checked out a few and some people were honest and said their ones didn’t whereas other people said they didn’t know!! We hung on to make sure we got one with it. It’s not worth getting one without it, considering the temperatures they reach.

We’ve had ours a few months, done a good few T – Shirts and to be honest, never had a problem, however if doing T Shirts is your main source of business I would personally buy from a "real" supplier.

    All the best

    Hi all,

Need a little advice (mods hope you don’t mind) Just a quick question.

I was messing with long exposure the other night, trying to draw my name with a torch light ( I know sad, but I’m just learning)

I’ve added a link to the pic (only HQ mode JPG), the pic is straight off the camera, not PS or anything, however I can see red, green and white dots in the pic, is this what they call noise? I have a noise reduction option on the camera which is not set to on yet, will setting it to on sort the problem?

    Shutter time was 15seconds

    Thanks again

    Thanks again for the help.

The Camera arrived yesterday and I love it, the quality of pics, colour depth is just great, really looking forward to using it outside 😀

The Camera allows you to take both RAW and JPG at the same time, just need to buy a 4gb compact flash card.

Thanks again and I will picking up a copy of Digital Photo

    Cheers

Marcella – 29th for Me 😀 oh and I feel a lot older than 30 heehee, I’m a right rickety old man. I bet you ain’t that moodie :lol1:

Rod/Shane – I’ve heard that you should take 3 pics in RAW, Over exposed, under exposed and normal, them use PS to "blend" them together, is this correct?

Steve – I’d love a Canon but they are rather expensive, the E-500 does all the things I would require and the Noise isn’t bad at a Rate of ISO 400, I don’t think I’d be using a higher ISO. Thanks for the link to the site

    Cheers All

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for informative reply and taking the time to post.

Really looking forward to getting the Camera now, I love old buildings and trying to get "moody" shots using different lighting effects.

I take it shooting in RAW is better and then creating the JPG in PS?

    Cheers

    Kinda correct

    1,024 Byte = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
    1,024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
    1,073,741,824 Bytes = 1 Gigabyte (GB)

    HD Floppy = 1.44MB
Zip = Various sizes available but 100MB is equal to around 70ish Floppies
    CD = 650MB or 700MB
    DVD = 4.7GB

I’m guess as its all database run, site is around the 1.5 GB mark
