  • Don’t suppliers get it?

I called a supplier i havent used in a very long time. always found them unhelpful and over priced in comparison to most. anyway, i do think they have various very good products. anyway… i wont name them because it maybe just my luck on this case that i got a ify employee…
anyway… I have allot left on a roll of canvas i bought from grafityp a few months back. not a think up with the material and prints very well… however, i have a customer asking for a special type of canvas that i hadnt seen before until recently when i had some prints sent to me from a trade printer. it is a very heavy textured canvas, hard to explain but almost like elephant or rhino skin :lol1:
a freind from the boards told me they bought similar from the supplier in question. so when i got the enquirey today i called them and asked do they sell the canvas by the metre? i didnt think they would but wanted to ask… "no" was the answer…
i then said, "is there any chance i could have a sample sent, or even a cutting, could be A5 size… i dont need to use it just match it against when i have.
they said, no sorry we dont send samples or cuttings out…
i then asked do they have some place online i could look at the texture of their material… (long shot i know)
    they said no… sorry…
after a bit of running in circles i said well i need a roll of this stuff, but i am not going to pay about £600 by debit card right now only to find out its wrong!
they said, do you have an account with us? i said i don’t think so as its been years since i have used you… they checked my postcode and said… "no i dont see an account, sorry we cannot help you with samples or a cutting."

that person probably just lost the company £600 or more…
i wasnt asking for a few metres… a very small cutting, a swatch even… i would have paid them the following day by debit card. so its not like they are even giving me 30 days… its paid upfront. done and dusted…
    i just dont get it…

almost the same thing happened a week or so ago. i called looking for a type of board. they had none in stock but after they got talking i found they did other stuff of interest to me… sounded promising and they took all my details. promised to send me samples, swatches etc… nothing came!

again, i just dont get it!

    🙄

Robert, don’t take it personally mate it seems like it happens in all industries, a chap I know used to buy a lot of second hand laptop parts from one company. He was sent a lid for a certain make which was suppose to be in mint condition. When it arrived it was quite badly scratched so he phoned to complain to the manager who said he would phone him back. Now the guy had never complained about anything before and this wasn’t a particularly expensive item but when the manager phoned him back he said he had spoken to the employee that had sent it and they had said it was in good condition and then he basically went on to say that he believed the employee and the guy was a liar. Needless to say that company don’t get any of his business anymore.

Don’t feel bad it happens in Australia as well, and to make things worse they don’t give a rats.

Rob,just be glad you’re not in the Equestrian business!! I was at a trade fair at the NEC recently, helping our Italian suppliers.
We can’t buy in the UK because we don’t have a shop!! It’s seen as unfair competition for shops in our area-even if they have an on-line shop.
We work from Commercial premises, but that doesn’t count!!

When we became the UK distributor for our saddles, my daughter wanted to enrol on a very reputable (and very expensive ) saddle-fitting course.
    Despite being a qualified Equine Therapist,she was turned down because? That’s right-we don’t have a shop 😕 😕 😕

    I don’t get it either 😕

Babs put a window in your unit and a sign saying "shop this way" with an arrow then you have your shop 😎 you have to play the same games they play.

You’re quite right Martin, the rates are high enough as it is – wish I could say the same about my pension 😀 😀 😀 😀

Thats crazy, why would anyone be so negative on the phone?

However saying that I am still waiting on price list from 2 suppliers, I’ve been waiting for over 6 months for one, and 3 months for the other, despite several calls. I know won’t consider ever using these suppliers even if I do get a price list, tis a shame really but such is life.
