    Hi

Not sure if this is what you wanted to hear but here goes.

I moved to a new country to live, I’ve now been living here for nearly 2 years. Used to live in South Africa, will never go back….end of story. Unless you have found a piece of heaven on earth, make sure you stay in a 1st world country.

    Thanks for listening 😀

I’ve never fancied living in another country, but I’d love to live on the coast. Preferably Cornwall. Ah soddit, I’d live in Barbados if I had to!

We lived on a boat in Greece for a while (halcian days)
I have lived in Iran, Oman, Kuwait and one or two other gulf states.
but at the end of the day, where you live is not important, its how you live.
I know all the stories about the greener grass, but life is what you make it,
The really lucky people in this world, do not live in one place, but take advantage of all the diverse cultures and climates that our world has to offer.
sorry to be so philosophical on a Friday night….(i even speld it right first time)

I echo your sentiments Andy – Barbados would be fab! 😀 Or Seychelles, Mauritius, Malaysia, Oz, NZ, NY, LA, Jamaica, Acapulco, Canada …… or a wee cottage in France, Greece, Spain, Switzerland or Italy.

    😀

I’m a real home bird eh!

I love Scotland, I’d love a croft in the highlands 😀 But the way of life in the UK now has me disillusioned 🙁

    Peter

You might have spelt philosophical right -but you spelt "spelt" wrong 😕

I lived in Singapore and Malaysia for three years as a child (my Father was in the Army) and they were great times. We also lived in Germany for three years before settling in Scotland after my Father left the army.

I think the only drawback with living in Britain is the poor climate (especially in Scotland) – I would love to live some where warm again like parts of the USA or Australia.

Oh yeah, the other thing wrong with Britain is the Government, the overcrowded roads, the petty crime, local councils, major crime…….

    I LOVE Scotland! 😛
i like visiting other countries, love relaxing and having fun, as you do, but after a couple of weeks i am bored stiff…

living in these countries maybe cheaper and lower costs, but that normally also means you earn less for what you do… if you know what i mean? it balances out…
put the sun into Scotland like you get in Spain and ide take Scotland over any other.

that said, when the sun IS actually out, i cant be ar$ed working, want beer and BAR-B-Q’s :lol1:

But the way of life in the UK now has me dissillusioned 🙁

Sorry to be blunt here Marcella but it really grates me when I hear that and I hear it a lot, I don’t want to open a can of worms but you should know and I know you realise that if you look at other places you have it so good here in the UK. I come from South Africa and although no where near a bad country it is still 3rd world. I would chose UK over SA any day. Everybody blames the government for everything, people complain about their free council houses and free healthcare, what if it wasn’t free, what if the government did not help the English people and only took?

There are so many basic things the UK has that SA does not like I mentioned above. There were about 2000 gun related crimes in the UK a few years back (SA population is about the same as UK) SA had about 200 000 gun related crimes in the same year !!!!!!!!!!

Some fat boy in the newspaper today was blaming the council for weighing 250kgs because he could not fit through the front door to go and excersize, he is now demanding a new wider door or a bungalow for him and his mom to live in, he might have to have his legs amputated because he has not got out of his chair in 6 months, and although he claims to have changed his eating habbits he is still putting on weight because he can’t fit out the front door, and this is the councils fault, nanny nation made up of too many cry babies and mommys boys.

sorry I am going on now so I will end here.

I agree with Peter to a degree, life is what you make it but sometimes where you live can force you to live a life you don’t want to or in most places you are killed before you get to live your life.

And I have been a victim of crime as has many members of my family and I lived in good areas in SA, there is just no escaping it, it is just a matter of how much around to effect you.

    enough now

still love you all 😉 😛

You’re right Warren – the UK is a far better place to live than many places, but that doesn’t stop it having it’s faults (like the "Nanny" State and lousy weather).

Actually – Britain would be a great place to live in if it wasn’t for all the other whinging moaning Brits that live here. Oh, and the overcrowded roads, the petty crime, local councils, major crime……. 😕

    Hi all
Spent 16 years in Canada and have dual citizenship. Daughter was born there too. Still have family there and visit when time allows. It is a great country but no matter where you live in the world, you will still have taxes, mortgages, bills, crime etc etc. Life IS what you make it so you just need to get on with it. I love living in Torquay and can the sea from my place so am very lucky.

Never lived overseas unfortunately. Lived in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane though. Thats like living in 3 different countries…. believe me! 😮

Been to America, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, China and Hawaii. I’d live in most of those places willingly. But I have to say, they wife and I would love to see Canada and Scotland..

Coming from such a hot climate most of the year, the colder climates appeal, but it costs a fortune because we have no winter clothing. To buy it for a few weeks holiday seems like such a waste.

I love coming back home though. We have everything here in Oz (just as well because we are so far from anywhere) but after 3 weeks in America, which the wife and I really really loved, it was nice to get back on the Qantas Jumbo and hear a good old aussie accent, and the ‘ow are ya’ from the flight attendants :lol1:

Its a shame we have so much ethnic strife here, but looking at the news, its happening everywhere anyway. Home is where your heart is they say. All I need is friends, food and bedding, and I’ll live anywhere.

Hate this country, the laws, immigrants, crime, the blind eye to crime, junkies, the blind eye to junkie crime, I could go on……. oh and the taxes on everything possible.

I lived in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) many years ago, in fact both my daughters were born there.
Warren, I’m interested in your view of SA. I was there a while too, and thought it was a beautiful country, though there was still apartheid there then.

I do think, living in Africa-or any 3rd world country, does broaden your outlook on life, and make you appreciate your own life.

Maybe the answer for all the whingers and whiners (and the flippin’ government) would be a stint over there? 🙂

    Hi Babs

    My views on SA are;

Most beautiful country I have ever seen
    great people
    great beaches
    great shopping centres
    good main roads
    and so many more positives

    BUT

    Government and crime !!!!!!

What do you do if you hear a noise outside at night?

UK – Roll over and go back to sleep as you know 99% of the time it is nothing

SA – Get out of bed, check the house, check the car, check your dogs have not been poisoned, reset your burglar alarm and try get back to sleep because 99% of the time there is something going on 😕

My mothers flat was broken in to 3 times last year, my cousin and an aunt were both hi-jacked at gun point last year (separate incidences)

So yes it is a really beautiful country but for me that’s not enough and isn’t enough for the future of my baby son.

I remember apartheid as I was a very young teenager then, it was a very different country, unfortunately although was has been done since is the right thing to do it has not helped the country and only made it worse, and that is fact.

Pity though as it is a nice place to live 😕

You hear of car hi-jacking in Sydney now. Never thought I’d see the day in Australia unfortunately…. only last week, some bloke was driving his Audi through the city, some one tried to take the car, the driver fought him off a drove away, so the crim shot a bullet thru the audi back window, lodging in the drivers back.

… a sad state of affairs indeed.

A friend just got back from SA from a photo Safari, he was totally blown away by the beauty of the place, but saddened by the open and blatant crime there. He’ll probably never go back…. even though he enjoyed his time out of the city.

    Hi Shane

A lot of the hi-jackings in SA end up in death, you cannot drive around with your car windows open because they will snatch bags and jewelery off you through the open window. So now because everybody keeps the car windows closed the hi-jackers find it difficult to grab you and open your door, so the only option they seem to have is shoot you through the closed window and then open the door through the broken window and drag your body out, it is so sad.

A lot of foreigners go to SA and stay in these fancy game reserves and then go back home, these people have not seen SA, only the bush with some animals and these are all remote protected areas. Also is you tour there with a tour group they will not take you anywhere near the bad areas and more than likely sometimes never leave the resort 😕 Sun City / Lost city is like that, it is a small town and there is no reason to leave it to see the real SA, it’s like spending a week in Disney Florida and staying in the park, you never get to see what Florida is really like!

My 3 closest friends in SA all carry guns, knives and asps, I never did but now am glad I won’t have to.

I would not recommend somebody not to go to SA on holiday because you can have an awesome holiday there as the currency is worth sh1t so you get a lot for your £’s or $’s, but you must do it through a tour agent and don’t do your own thing, great to see real wildlife and spend the days on sunny beaches, just stay away from Soweto !!!! :lol1:

Warren, my mate is marrying a girl from SA. He went across to meet the parents. No fancy resorts for him, except a 3 day photo safari in a game reserve. He was stunned by what he saw in the major cities. He told me some stories that made my hair stand on end – stuff he saw with his own eyes, and its exactly as you say..

I have not long purchased a VW Caddy Life, and one of the features is an anti hi-jack locking system. Never thought I’d need it here.

As you say though, no good having a good locking system, if the windows are not bullet proof!! 😕

Why do we live in Third World Countries? There are no Fourth World Countries!!

Less crime in Namibia than S.A. – our crime tends to be more petty. Bag snatching, house braking etc. Hijackings are few and far between.
Child Rape is a big problem. Some people believe it can cure HIV.

By the way – namibia is far cheaper than SA to explore, the SA Rand is equal to the Nam $ (And legel tender here) and we have far more unspoiled beauty, with less than 2 million people in almost 900 000 square kilometres!

As a kid I lived in Saudi for 7 years, I would go back as I really enjoyed living there.

Although If I won the lottery I would relocated to a small castle somewhere on Isle of Islay. IMHO it is the best place in the whole world 😀

    quote GERT DU PREEZ:

Jeez, my blood ran cold to read that.

It only took a few words to remind me just how fortunate me and my family really are.

    Another thing just as bad;

Did you hear that the deputy president of South Africa was in court for rape and fraud (innocent in both counts although so obviously guilty) but the worse thing was he said to avoid getting aids he took a long shower 😮 😮 😮

Yes, the deputy President of South Africa said that (!)

    That is sad

and another thing, in SA they also believe that if you have s.e.x with a virgin it will cure aids, this is why so many babies are being raped in Africa.

and they still won’t bring back the death penalty 😕
