We’ve designed our own logo, afterall my partner is a designer and has done a lot of corporate stuff, unfortunatly i’m not so clever but hey..

Lots of brain storming helps, even if its just really silly ideas, sketch them down, play with effects in PS or illustrator and most of all have fun, I’m sure you’ll come up with something great 😀 Sometimes whiskey helps to kick start the brain, well mines anyways 😛

We use conform tape 4075, its a little more expensive but seems to do the trick for us, stops nice and flat, we do a lot of stickers/decals for people so makes life a little easier 🙂

We used to use generic medium tack tape but found it not sticking to the vinyl all that well, maybe it was too cheap though 😳

I’m guessing the email addy is an old btinernet, openworld, talk21 etc one, that you access through mail.yahoo.co.uk

    If so, go to your Bulk folder, find the message that isn’t spam, click the NOT SPAM button, it will then take you back to the message, at the top of the message it will now say;

"Thanks! Every message you report trains your SpamGuard Plus filters to work better for you.

The selected message was reported as not spam. Edit Spam Protection Settings – Learn More About Spam"

Click edit spam protection, in the middle section, "Mark Spam + Not Spam" tick Move the message to my Inbox and save.

    That should be you sorted.

    Hope it helps.

    quote Steele Signs:

I fitted this one last Thursday and my golden rule is:
If it obstructs the driver’s vision, then it’s too big. I got the owner to sit in the car whilst I offered it up and when he gave me the thumbs up, I taped it into place.
Note: This one was 4.5″ in the centre, about 7.5″ at the outer edges.
Bottom line is, I don’t want the Police knocking on my door claiming the sun strip I fitted was partly the cause of an accident. Call me cynical, but for a £40 job?

    it is still illegal…

Great link the MOT manual (will save in my favorites), confirms my post above..

    Reason for rejection

    1. A Windscreen sticker or other
    obstruction encroaching more than 10mm

    2. A Windscreen sticker or other
    obstruction encroaching more than 40mm

    I’ve made them a few years ago, I’m sure I made them about 7" x 7".

When I was designing them I rang my dad at Vosa and got him to check against one of the trucks that was in his work, 7" x 7" sticks in my head.
    Sorry can’t be more accurate.

    Hi Tim

Our other cutter is a creation pcut 1200 and work’s fine, we were recommended to use Signgo. It works and cut’s fine.

We don’t understand why these cutter’s get such a bad rep, other than they can be bought a bit cheaper than other’s on the market.

When we first got it there was an issue with the cutting, but that was down to a screw being loose in the head (bit like myself 😀 ) and was corrected by our supplier.

We can recommend Alan Flynn, he’s a sound bloke, we didn’t buy our’s from him but he has supplied us with some extra blades and an extra blade holder.

Any extra info you would like to know about them, feel free to contact us.

    Best of Luck

    hi there

In the past I have used self cling bought from Metamark. They also sell the edge films too, and a bit cheaper than spandex too (depending on what discount you get though).
It’d be worth checking metamark out as they have quite a few edge products now.

    Hope that helps

    Hi all…

Slightly incorrect info about the sun strip and M.O.T.

If you drew a line up from the middle of the steering wheel, the windscreen wipers must not travel into the sunstrip by any more than 10mm. Anywhere else on the screen the wipers must not travel into the strip by any more than 40mm

    Good for repeat business though.
I had one the other week on a Celica.

Info from my girlfriend’s Dad who works at VOSA doing SVAs.

    Guidance
View to the front and windscreen obscuration

    GOV.UK
    General requirements

Regulation 30 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (SI 1986 No. 1078 as amended) requires that:

    (1) Every motor vehicle shall be so designed and constructed that the driver thereof while controlling the vehicle can at all times have a full view of the road and traffic ahead of the motor vehicle.
    (2) Instead of complying with the requirement of paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 77/649, 81/643, 88/366, 90/630 or, in the case of an agricultural motor vehicle, 79/1073.
    (3) All glass or other transparent material fitted to a motor vehicle shall be maintained in such condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is being driven on a road.

In practice, the annual test will check that items placed in or stuck to the windscreen or surface damage, cracks or discolouration in the windscreen do not seriously obscure the vision of the driver. In order to better define what maybe permissible the windscreen is divided into zones:

Zone A is a vertical area 290mm wide, centred on the steering wheel and contained within the swept area of the windscreen (this area is 350mm wide on vehicles over 3.5 tonnes);Zone B is the remainder of the swept area of the windscreen

For simplicity, surface damage, cracks or discolouration, are simply referred to as damage.

In Zone A, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 10mm diameter circle. A combination of minor damage areas shall not seriously restrict the drivers view. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 10mm.

In Zone B, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 40mm diameter circle. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 40mm.

Windscreen repairs shall be assessed the same as unrepaired damage and shall not restrict the driver’s vision.

Cracks passing through the swept area of the windscreen and reaching two points at the edge shall be deemed to render the windscreen insecure.

Items placed in, or stuck to, the windscreen could be stickers, pennants, satellite navigation monitors or decorations.

Original vehicle design features and drivers aids, such as sun visors, are allowed.

Vehicles that do not comply with the above could be construed to be in contravention of the legislation.

Additionally, Regulation 100 of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (SI 1986 No. 1078 as amended) requires:

a motor vehicle, and all its parts and accessories;the number of passengers carried, and the manner in which any passengers are carried in or on a vehicle; andthe weight, distribution, packing and adjustment of the load of a vehicle

to be at all times such that no danger is caused, or is likely to be caused, to any person in or on a vehicle or on a road.

Further to this, Section 40a of The Road Traffic Act 1988 (as amended by Section 8 of the Road Traffic Act 1991)Part II, Using a Vehicle in a Dangerous Condition, states that:

A person is guilty of an offence if he uses, or causes or permits another to use, a motor vehicle or trailer on the road when:

    (a) the condition of the motor vehicle or trailer, or of its accessories or equipment, or
    (b) the purpose for which it is used, or
    (c) the number of passengers carried by it, or the manner in which they are carried, or
    (d) the weight, position or distribution of its load, or the manner in which it is secured, is such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involves a danger of injury to any person.

Consolidated versions of national regulations can be found in Sweet and Maxwell’s ‘Encyclopaedia of road traffic law and practice (construction and use)’ which should be available at most main reference libraries.

To be honest I’m fed up of people expecting me to want anyone bar England to do well, it’s unreal how many Scot’s I’ve spoken to recently are wanting England to do badly.

    Come on Engerland….. 😀

    Hi,

Thanks for all your replies, really really great advice, thank you.

The problem we have is we are really really small and just starting up ourselves (although we have years of experience designing within other companies, however we are now doing it on our own).

We want to make a name for ourselves but not a "do a van for 50 quid, etc" name, too many cowboys or ebay numpties see to that and make life difficult enough for us :(, credit where credit is due, designing, quality vinyl, cutting, weeding and fitting etc all adds up (plus I’m a little greadier than that 😉 )

A Quality professional service is what we are striving for, with a personal 1 on 1 kinda feel.

Problem is I don’t have the confidence to say minimum price of xx, although I would like to, its kinda catch22, how did you guys first start off, if you don’t mind me asking?

    Does that make sense? <beer>

cheers for the replies, recreating the font isn’t a problem, its something we do all the time, plus its all ready to be cut, I’m just really stuck pricing the job as its not much vinyl at all..

would £10 be too much or too little, I honestly have no idea as its such a small job..

    Cheers

thats weird, have you tried the cutter with Artcut or any other software, does the head lift then? Can you lift the head using the control panel on the cutter?

I have the settings I use with Flexi and it all cuts fine

its something we are doing currently..

Without doubt web presence is a very positive thing providing the site is pro looking, I’ve seen very poorly design sites which leave a bad impression. I think a lot of people don’t realise your site is most likely the first impression a customer gets of your business.

    Hi all,

We have a P Cut 1230mm cutter and an old roland 610mm cutter, the P cut is great, cuts well after getting it setup, touch wood.

"Cheaper" cutters seem to get a bad rap here but everyone has to start somewhere, I personally couldn’t afford a summa or new roland, I wish I could but such is life.

We had a few problems with the P Cut at first, however this was down to a loose screw that caused the blade not to lift, now its fixed and everything is fine.

I’ve got the settings we use in flex. The settings are below, hope this helps someone.

    Cut settings in production manager
    ———————————-
    =CUT TAB=
    Resolution = 1016
    Passes 2
    untick advance after plot
    Curve Quality set as best
    tick send arc commands
    Knife offset .25oomm

    =COMMUNICATION TAB=
    Speed 9600
    Data Bits 8
    Parity none
    stop bits 1
    Handshaking none

    Cheers

Where I used to work did full wrap’s, a vehicle graphic’s company in Clydebank, may be a bit of a distance from you though, however they do have fitters throughout the UK, they are very very good at wrapping.

It does make sense to get a referal fee, especially if it’s a frequent thing you get asked, test the water with whatever company you contact.

We normally curve upwards, so that it compensates for the downwards curve of the bonnet. Varies from 1.5" – 2" depending on vehicle.

    Hi,

Is the cutter USB or serial? could be the software baud rate is different to the cutters, this would cause it not to cut.

Just to add, I too run a wireless setup, We’ve had it for several years now without any problems.

So long as the security is setup correctly you should have no bother. I have mac code enabled, hidden the SSID, and have 64bit encryption, is capable for 128 but for some reason I’ve never used it.

My 2 desktop PCs are wired but my laptop is wireless, I run a really old BT Voyager 2000 and a HUB plugged in for the PCs (only 1 RJ45 port on the router), this setup as been stable for years, ever under full download for hours, very reliable (touch wood)

Hope everything goes as smoothly for yourself.

    Take care

    Hi Derek

I’ve got a catalogue here for APS which mentions Flexi-lite Series 5R Reflective, it’s described in terms of conformability to be similar to a cast vinyl. I don’t know if this helps, but if it’s more conformable, corners should be easier.

    Hope this helps.
