I don’t think snappyfax is malware, it appears to be a legitimate program that’s causing a conflict / buggering things up on Simon’s PC.
I just thought the name ‘Snappy Fax’ and the problems it caused screamed malware to me 😛
Glad ya got it sorted(sort of) without too much damage Simon.

Do VM and Signlab have the ability to run multiple cutters without other software Martin?
Haven’t used them either? -

MemberAugust 24, 2012 at 10:26 am in reply to: Hexis vehicle wrap vinyl failing, advice please?I haven’t used Hexis vinyl before, but done quite a few wraps, so i’ll maybe bight my tongue a bit, but I’m sorry Rob, your sounding like a manufacturer protecting their ‘warranty’. I can’t see any areas that would go beyond the 25-30% ratio that most claim.
Having said that, installer error is gonna be the final outcome in any dispute here.
I may be wrong, but I doubt it unfortunately. On the bright side, it may be your supplier that comes to the party and gives you a discount on replacement material.

Get a UPS if it’s going to be an ongoing problem. I would be more worried about frying the electronics on it, than the heads drying out(as long as you can manage to pump ink through every 24hrs, should be fine).

MemberJune 6, 2012 at 9:36 am in reply to: cracks appearing in vinyl at corners of cut out lettersI think it’s been stretched slightly during install if it only happened dry, this can happen even with app tape, but there must have been a tiny failure point in the corners to start with. Try cutting just those letters again on some scrap, and have a close look at those areas.

i think i still have them but don’t know what you mean for testing purposes?
lol I’m not sure I know what I mean either, was a bit tipsy when typed 😛
But I think I meant to chuck one in to see if it registers as a full cartridge to see if its the printer or the cartridges themselves, but I’m not entirely sure how the printer sees the cleaning cartridges as I never used ’em(except for gutting them for cleaning fluid)

I’d say keep your designers happy if you dont have in an in house designer, but make sure they have no relevance on the price of your signs. And from the short time I’ve been in the biz, I would say the only rule of thumb is your market and how well you can upsell.
But i’m not a business owner, so grain of salt mate.. -

Heat usually gets rid of light scratches in laminates, so you could try that. Other than that, I got nuthin’.
-
if you wanna get funky with it, you can use it as black ink if you have a bulk ink system.
-
I don’t know what RIP you’re using and not familiar with mutoh’s, but make sure your RIP settings isn’t overriding your printer settings, or vice versa.

Image Perfect do one too from Spandex…IP2410.

CS5 can save back as far as version 3, but I seem to remember version 8 or 9 being the most stable for Corel 12, so get them to try that.

I used to use satin finish polypropylene for general poster work, it’s a lot more durable and prints great.
-
Avery XL2000 copper?
-
Price sounds ok, tech sounds like a d*ck.
-
If it’s a sp300 (not sp300v), you need to use colorrip which won’t work on Win7, so I presume it’s the same deal with the driver. There is a way to change it to a 300v with the dip switches so you can use Versaworks and Win7. Otherwise you might need to drop back to XP.

MemberApril 5, 2012 at 7:08 am in reply to: Creating a drop shadow effect with coloured Vinylstype 2 is easier, type 1 without any bleed will eventually leave a gap over time(and is a b*tch to register), type 1 with bleed and type 2, will leave a slight ridge where it overlaps, so don’t go any less than about 3-5mm so you get a decent grip on vinyl/substrate. I never done a lot of layers though, so I also await better answers than mine. :ball:

MemberMarch 24, 2012 at 4:00 am in reply to: What is your opinion on signing your work?quote Hugh Potter:quote Quentin Tomkies:Depends on if I’m happy with the job or not… 😎Cheers
Qme too!
some jobs I’m proud to put my name to, others i’m happy to put my name on, then there are those that are totally down to the customers input, usually I’ve suddenly run out of decals when they suggest putting my name on it!
If the job was worthy, we would let the customer know and work it into the design process, otherwise stickers on the back of the sign to let peeps know if it has to be replaced. Personally I think stickers on the front are a bit cheesy, but I’m not running a sign shop in this economy lol.
-
Make sure you go through all the feed calibration and bi-directional print settings if a tech hasn’t serviced it recently, before you start looking at the other issues. And yeah, you need need the heat settings close to max in most cases.
Also try a higher quality(more passes) print setting if necessary, as these things are prone to banding from the start on certain colours.
Edit: and get your hands on the service manual for more in detail settings/part replacement, if necessary.
-
Haven’t used the oracal on boats, but any high performance cast should do the job if you edge seal it, but the lifespan would be about half of its normal recommended.
-
64 bit yay, use that ram(and processor) dammit lol
-
I’m taking a guess at head(s) replacement.
But if you have the service manual you can look up the head shot count to see if they are way past their lifespan or not(if you don’t know how old they are) -
I would say, from limited experience doing galvanized boats, you clean until tomorrow and still stuff comes off, so I think treating would be necessary. yes the vinyl sticks but for a wrap i would think you need a better surface.
-

@Toby, I find that the citrus cleaners tend to leave a residue that vinyl doesn’t wanna stick to, so just make sure you wipe down good with isopropanol afterwoods. -
