  • Ink smudging on vinyl, advice needed?

Posted by Lloyd Morgan on June 13, 2012 at 3:33 pm

I’m running some prints on the sp 300v and sometimes it seems as if the vinyl is warping in the middle and i end up with a smudge patch in the middle of a print from the head i assume touching the vinyl.

i’ve reduced the heater to 35 and tried it off in case it was getting too hot.
should i increase the heat to keep the vinyl flat?

    any advice thanks?

    many thanks

We find that increasing the temperature causes more cockling, so you are doing the
right thing by reducing it. What brand of vinyl are you using? Some brands seem more
    susceptible to cockling than others.

i use LG can’t remember the exact model number, 31** i think.
just asked my supplier to send me a sample of slightly thicker vinyl to see if its better.

One thing to consider is if the vinyl itself is up to temperature before using or has it just come off the delivery van.

from my experience lg is the worst for this if there is any dampness in the air.

Also, I find that if the vinyl runs up tight to the roll this happens, also pulls the vinyl off-square. Make sure you have vinyl run loose off the roll.

Try moving your pinch rollers further into the media if you can, it may help.

Do you have a take up roller fitted? if so, use that, we find it helps to pull the vinyl through better.

I`d also try another make of vinyl, we use Oracal
