Does anyone have any experience in printing direct to .85 magnetic sheet

Is it possible to print direct to the white vinyl that is applied to magnetic sheet. or would i be best buying unfinished magnetic and laminating the printed vinyl directly on to it. I have a large quantity of 900 mm x 450 mm magnetic signs to produce.

Many thanks in advance for any advise.

    ps i have a mimaki cjv30-130

    Hi Neil,
I have printed a fair few straight onto mag sheet. with good results on my Versacamm.

Can’t think what profile I used so may be a bit of trial and error at first, just make sure the head is raised.

Grafityp advertise their magnetic as printable with many printers.
Brisbell also very good and sell printable magnetic in differnt sizes and thicknesses

    hope this may help some

there are printable versions of magnetic sheet, which might be the best option.

Ive printed direct to mag (from mdp) and laminated it! one year on and they still look like new! I just used a metamark md5 profile (which was just a random choice which worked well for me) The mag wasnt specced for printing but it printed perfect!

    Thanks for all the tips.
I just placed a scrap piece on the printer and the metal in front and back of the print area is steel and the Magnetic sheet does stick is this a problem just with Mimakis when printing or is everybody else’s printers made of aluminum so it wasn’t an issue.

Your probably thinking just do a test and stop bothering us. my dilemma is it’s about 100m of 1200mm wide magnetic material I dont want to order coated magnetic if i end up printing onto white vinyl and laminating it onto uncoated magnetic materiel.

Ill phone around today and let you know how i get on.

Thanks again for all the feed back

Got an email from a company called magnum magnetics the other day. They sell material which you can print and then you magnetise it with a tool.

We have printed loads of this on our UV Flat bed.
Using both roll to roll and just putting it thro as a flat sheet.
No problems at all when doing either way

As far as the magnet sticking to the platen, just put some app tape on the back of the magnet or on the platen itself.
Tried the printable mag on a VP540 and would rather gouge my own eyes out than try it again 😛
