    Hi
A couple of days ago I downloaded SNAPPY FAX.
This proved to be a disaster. My computer no longer shuts down, except by pressing and holding the button, and It wont uninstall. I performed the usual uninstall, and the program is no longer appearing on the uninstall list, but it is still there, and starts up with the computer.
I cant find info on how to remove it on the interweb, other than UNINSTALL programs, which I dont trust. My computer has also noticably slowed down.

Does anyone know how I can remove this intruder?

    Dell Dimension 9200, Windows XP.

    Simon.

or use ‘advanced uninstaller’ (google search)

use it with care as if used unwisely the novice can do a lot of damage!

stick to uninstalling / start-up programs & cleaning up registry / history and it’s great.

Free for 20 days or so…used it for the last 7 or 8 years.

    Morning Chris,

I don’t think snappyfax is malware, it appears to be a legitimate program that’s causing a conflict / buggering things up on Simon’s PC.

Simon – in the first instance probably the main issue for you is that it is starting up when the computer starts. You can take a look at the apps starting at stasr time and if it’s there, stop it starting (sounds strange!).

Click the Windows Start button, then from the menu select RUN. A text box will pop up – type ‘msconfig’ (no quotes) and hit Enter.

A dialogue box will pop up with a row of tabs across the top – select the ‘Startup’ tab. The applications in that list start up when the computer starts *IF* the checkbox is ticked. Run down the list until you come to SNAPPY FAX. The name may not be precisely the same but you should be able to determine which one it is. Untick the checkbox to the left of it. SAVE and restart your computer. You may be alerted that there have been changes made to the startup when it restarts – just accept it.

If it’s not in the Startup tab (list) look under the Services tab as it may be running as a serivce. You can set these to start (or not) at startup too.

Thanks guys. I downloaded both the uninstall programs, neither one showed snappy fax in their list of removal programs. So it is hiding in there somewhere.

However, there was a startup list on one of them, cant remember which, that enabled me to prevent it starting up with the pc. So, its no longer an active problem.

By the way, Snappy fax didnt work anyway, so if anyone wants a virtual fax machine, try something else.

I think I would regard this as malware. Anything that hijacks a perfectly good system and prevents you getting rid of it must be malware.

Lately I have been plagued with something called Babylon, which redirects your browser to something called the babylon search engine, and sneaks it in as your home page. . Very hard to get rid of, but Piriform detected a babylon installer, and I managed to get rid of that as well (So far anyway)

I just thought the name ‘Snappy Fax’ and the problems it caused screamed malware to me 😛

Glad ya got it sorted(sort of) without too much damage Simon.

did anyone mention system restore after removal?

start / programs / accessories / system tool / system restore

Go back to a date before you installed the software
