    Morning Mariusz,

    If it was me before you try and source some anti static bars buy some antistatic sheets from Perspex they do a foamex called Palfoam which is an antistatic sheet. Id give Fraser a call about your antistatic bars thats where i bought mine. Hope you sort this out…cheers

    Is there anti static bars on the machine? if there are turn them off that might help. Or it could possibly be the substrate i used to buy from a certain supplier and even though they said the substrate was uv approved it gave these results. I started to buy from perspex and they supply an antistatic and uv board approved in foamex and correx.

    Is this the first time you’ve printed on this substrate?

    Ive had this problem before Could be a couple of things, possibly static? or not an approved uv substrate.

    quote James Sahota:

    Hi Steff,

    Having owned one of these machines the KX7 – 3m x 2.5m fixed flatbed I can honestly say it wasn’t the best machine to go for at all. The quality wasn’t bad but as Jamie mentions there are issues with it, and we found we were fighting a lot with it.

    The guys at InkTec will tell you everything you want to hear but when things go wrong this is where things change.

    It this is your first flatbed purchase I would stick with a machine that doesn’t require manual purges and wiping all the time, go for a machine that does all of this its self.

    I can honestly say the Scitex FB700 we had which has now been replaced was the best machine ever, self-cleaning very little downtime and if it was down the engineers would arrive to site with every part they might need.

    I would give Loic @ Josero a call the new AGFA he has it his place is simply stunning and for the near the same money the quality is stunning, I couldn’t believe how good it was when he gave me a demo a few weeks ago. Loic has also been selling machines for 25+ years, his one of those guys who will treat your business like his own and give you the best kit possible and if he feels something isn’t right for you he would rather lose a sale then sell you something naff!

    If you can get over to his place and have a demo I would recommend this.

    Hope this helps

    I used to run a Jetrix Kx7 in a previous employment and never had any issues with it, it was a great machine very little down time and performing a manual purge was very quick and not very often. Print quality was excellent adhesion on substrates was good I printed on plastics/glass/mirrors/wood etc….. would highly recommend……

    I’ve printed and fitted a lot of contravision and never laminated it, never had any issues with water. I can think of one job that was a very large shop front which is subject to lots of rain etc and still looks as good as the day i fitted it. Also if you allow for an overlaminate it could make the job too expensive…..

    Hi Myles,

    Ive printed loads of backlit and not seen this problem, I’m running Onyx and theres a feature in which you can tell the printer to run high ink level (i would probably turn this feature off when running such a solid colour) . Id say the pass rate is fine if you run any higher the substrate could become saturated. Could be the substrate, maybe try running a printhead clean…..Andy

    Hi Daniel it all depends as an example:

    Substrate = 1370mm

    Wall = 2430mm x 5860mm

    so split the wall in 5 drops off 1172mm each

    To be honest id go for as wide as you can less drops to apply dosent really make it and easier if the drops are narrower…. :thumbsup:

    Hi Dan,

    Ive tried printing on my latex with not very good results, i had to print at a very high pass rate 20pb to get half a decent result, which slowed the printer down. Im actually printing another wallpaper job on Metamark as i type but this time on my uv flatbed and getting much better results and a lot quicker. I havent got a solvent printer so cant say how well it will print, when you speak to Metamark make sure they send you the same batch code so that the emboss is the same…… :thumbsup:

    I originally come from a print background litho and digital, and have been involved in signage/large format for the last 6 years. Ive had lots of dealings with designers and yes they can be very arty farty when it comes to designing. Id call myself an artworker give me a brief and images etc and ill put something together that looks good. Most designers have been to art college and get carried away with designs with a large bill as well. We always charge for design normally about £20 for 30 mins. Its amazing when you ask you’re customers if they’ve got artwork and they answer…."no buts its not much just a couple of pics and some type". I think they think I’ve got a magic artwork button and its suddenly appears……

    When i first bought my Hp Latex i got 5 free rolls of substrate, only 5m of each i remember getting:

    HP Air Release
    HP Contravision
    HP Backlit Polyester
    HP Heavy Textile Banner
    HP PVC Wall Paper

    Only having 5m of each didn’t really allow me to be able to use them on live jobs. So when a job came in id source a alternative and also ran a test on the HP substrate and to be honest didn’t really see any difference in print quality etc. So personally i dont use any HP substrate which is a lot dearer than most other substrates.

    Thanks David.

    Andy, I didn’t understand well. Is Solvoprint PVC the name for the mesh? What is the name of the tape are you using?

    Cheers

    Solvoprint PVC is the name of the mesh which i buy from Neschen, the tape i buy from Antalis, which is called Orabond (item No: 96370, 50mm x 50m) which has an excellent resistance to uv light, solvents and plasticiser. 160c long term temperature resistance….. :thumbsup:

    in my view, for a general vinyl applicator doing fleet graphics etc i much prefer the more cost effective option such as the red wrapcut, but for wrapping etc then the knifeless tape has the edge as its a softer tape to manipulate on curves etc.

    I agree depending on the job, i use both wrap cut and knifeless tape, I get my wrap cut from MDP supplies…… :thumbsup:

    thanks for that Andy, I was actually just having a quick look round & it looks like you can pick up a fairly new (2-3 year old) L26500 now for between 4-6k which seems pretty decent. I know it would mean getting a separate cutter but I don’t really have an issue with that.
    Can I ask about print quality/colour matching & print durability comparisons between say the VS540i & L26500?

    Hi Myles i can’t comment about the VS540i as I’ve never used one or seen anything printed on it. The L26500 print quality is very good prints black nice and dense and I’ve never had any issues with colour matching print durability is very good i can print and finish straight away no need to out gas or wait for any drying. I used to use my latex to print on most substrates scrim banners, pop ups, pull ups, soft signage, canvas’s vinyls for mounting and never really had any problems. Ive now got a Flatbed Jetrix KX7 so no more mounting. :thumbsup:

    Ive also got a HP Latex L26500 had it for about 5 years and its been a great machine, i print a lot of scrim banners and yes over a long area the substrate does shrink a bit say 5-10mm but over a 2-3m length due to the heat but i just cut to the edge and not the trim marks. The third generation latex runs a lot cooler which will prevent shrinkage, but to be honest no ones going to notice over the length. So for me Latex all day long……. :thumbsup:

    Just a bit of an update, we bought a Jetrix KX7 had it now for about 6 months, oh and what a great machine, we bought this machine to mainly print on normal substrates acm, correx, forex but i found myself printing on all sorts of items including toilet seats, door knobs, mirrors, perspex, ikea tables, ikea folders. Inctec the manufactures service is very good as well, colour and adhesion is also very good no issues with picking on edges etc, so if youre looking for a flatbed this is a great machine…….. :thumbup2:

    quote James Sahota:

    Having experience with both machines and recently doing a job for the London Underground and being told they preferred the massive 3m x 2m boards printed on the HP FB700 rather than the Jetrix that a partner company of ours done for us was positive feedback for the HP – The client stated the prints looked more alive and vibrant with the prints that came of the FB700.

    The Jetrix is a great machine in my opinion and I know a few people using it a couple of issues that they all complain about its;

    1. The maintenance on the machine – You have to purge the heads a few times a day and give them a good old clean to ensure all nozzle are firing. – The FB on the other hand does its own cleans several times during the day and does one major clean during the evening – You really don’t have to do anything with this up until the time it flashes for its 80 hour clean which even then you need some lint free cloths, swabs and some grease which is all supplied – Follow the step by step instructions and your away.

    You can leave the FB standing for a week and come back to it load a sheet and it will print perfectly each and every time. Maintenance on this machine is minimal compared to the jetrix

    2. Adhesion of ink – The FB amazes me you can literally put any material through it and the ink will stick like SH*T no messing around with primers or anything like that – I know my friends who run the jetrix have to apply a sealer to the edges of ACM before printing as the ink just comes off.

    3. Have a open flatbed like the jetrix means you need to ensure your environment is dust free where as the FB prints in the enclosed section of the machine meaning you can load a sheet give it a blow down with a air gun and you know the dust is off and the area being feed is in the enclosed section

    You mention the maintenance agreement which I agree at 10k is a massive amount especially as you may not end up using it…This is exactly what I thought so decided not to take it in my second year until such point where I was printing a time sensitive order worth around 25k to us and the machine developed a fault…I thought I knew what the fault was and decided to order some parts – 5k worth of parts later and still no fix….By this time the order needs to go out and being a corporate client with a set installation date I had no choice but to sub this out to someone else….Lesson learnt I now have a maintenance agreement in place….I would push HP to give you 2 years if you decide to go down this route.

    The maintenance on these machines is done by art systems and I have to say if you log a fault you get a service call the next day from there engineer and the engineer will arrive with every single part he thinks he may need, if the parts are not in stock they are sent to your location over night from europe….Every issue we have reported to Artsystems has been dealt and fixed the next day without fail meaning down time is always a minimum….Not sure how this compares to jetrix.

    The white ink is a load of bull crap this machine prints white very well… No issues what so ever.

    UV gloss banding can be seen on some of the darker colours if your pushing this machine at the fastest speeds, bidirectional always gets rid of that….Also one last thing to add the roll to roll and the take up reel on the FB works very well, I’ve regularly printed 50m rolls at 2.5m width without issue.

    I hope this helps guys!

    Hi James,

    Thanks for your reply, what sort of work do you put through your FB700? a lot of our work is very different one minute we could be printing on a door and then the next job could be on slate, the resellers we have spoken to have given us the impression that the FB700/750 is more for large volume jobs for e.g. 200 A1’s would you say this is correct?….thanks again for you’re help James…. :thumbup2:
