  • Mounting Foamex to Wall – Fixing Options

Posted by Mike Thornley on September 15, 2016 at 11:13 am

    Hi
We are producing some poster prints that are to be supplied mounted to 5mm foamed to be then mounted to interior walls.
Our client has asked if we can mount them also.
Anyone recommend any quick and easy mounting methods that doesn’t involve drilling.
    Thanks

Double sided velcro will hold even large prints depending on how much you use.

VHB tape all the way, perfect for this. Very quick and easy plus super strong

I agree Velcro may work, but it has a pretty aggressive adhesive. If the walls are plasterboard painted then ide imagine removal of the tape will pull at least the paint from the wall.
We use velcro occasionally, even with banners we use it. my gripe is it never really gives a nice tight fit to the surface. regardless it works, but still… 😆 can you tell i am not a fan of velcro? 😉

We use different methods for different substrates.
Foam tape is a favourite of mine, but like Velcro, has quite an aggressive adhesive and invariably will muller a painted wall

What do you guys recommend doing for 3mm foamex that is 1220 x 3000 mm?

I’m thinking of using glue and screws, but its going inside, don’t know if it is over kill?

Also any advice, appreciated. Also have some panels 1222 x 1660.

I used novabond tape from Grafityp for a panel of similar size in our office. Not moved a mm and seems as stuck as ever.

We also use either foam tape or banner hemming tape. Both have pretty aggressive adhesives which whilst happily holding boards onto walls, like others have said, will inevitably damage the wall upon removal (usually paintwork)

Ok, have you ever used Gripfill or another type of adhesive from a glue gun?

I don’t want any wrinkling like I have seen from outside signs that uses foamex.

Pretty much whatever adhesive you use will ruin a painted wall.
    My choices here would be:
    VHB tape
    Siroflex (roughen the foamex first)
I have never seen the point of velcro. Why not cut out the middle man and just use double sided VHB tape?

Technibond 431 is an excellent permanent but peelable tape even after long term use. It has a fairly aggressive tack but peels off with ease & I’ve even found it can be re-used particularly on smaller signs. It leaves no residue & will even remove from emulsion painted interior walls without removing the paint if done carefully & providing the paint isn’t loose.
You don’t need to use heaps of it either as it’s strong enough.

I use ‘Remo One’ from Essentra its a double sided adhesive foam tape with an aggressive permanent adhesive on one side and an removable adhesive on the other side…..
