  • New printer. What to go for?

Posted by Conor Clarke on May 15, 2017 at 10:48 pm

Hi everyone. I am currently looking about buying a new printer and laminator. I will be printing vinyl graphics and banners etc. I was looking at a hp printer but Ive had a few people complain that they won’t print on some vinyls.
If you guys were buying a new printer, what would use go for??
    Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for latex or solvent? HP aren’t the only reputable company selling latex printers and it’s only the HP latex that struggles with printing a wide range of media…

Never had any issues with media on our HP Latex 360, and moved to these machines from Mimaki (which we also rated highly at the time).
Looking at a 4th machine here, and it would be another Latex.

Ive also never had any issues printing on my Latex L26500 its 6 years old now and still going strong. I defiantly recommend a HP latex……..

I was really impressed with the hp machines when at the Sign And Digital show. Especially when you can use the media straight away. I think I am being swayed towards latex now.
    Any advice on a laminator?

Thanks for all your help! Much appreciated! [emoji106][emoji106]

I’d talk to Sam @ AD Young about a good HP deal for a machine & Easymount laminator – sorted us out really well! :smiles:

Andy, would you laminate much wrapping material with it? I’ve heard that’s one of the hardest jobs…

To through another machine into the mix we went with the mounters mate. Same as you, weighed up all the options and read a few things then asked on here. Should give Omar a shout, am sure he can talk you through everything. Very happy with our machine.

I am going to look about an easy mount and a hp on Monday so I will keep use posted. I was talking with Omar about the mountersmate. They definitely look like an impressive machine but I like the thought of having a dealer only an hour up the road so that’s why I think I will go with the easymount.

Well, I’ve ordered the new hp 64" printer with a zumma plotter. And went with the easymount laminator too. Thanks for all the help guys.

Been running Solvent, UV and latex printers for many years now.
Look at your targeted market, turnaround times etc. what are your core products and then what machine would best suit YOUR requirements.
No matter what you look at, they ALL have pros and cons. it is working out what best suits your own requirements.

I love Roland machines… had multiples machines from cutters only, thermal printers, solvent print and cut, print only and have been running them around 17 years, they are the originators of the Print & Cut machines combined. When i needed a bit faster drying time i moved to a "Roland with UV Lightbar". Not only speeding up turnaround time due to instant drying but the best chemical and abrasion durability hands down.
HP latex are different beasts again, we have two, are you limited on media for these machines. definitely not!! what you will find though is that budget pvc media tends to warp when put through the machine due to its high temperature drying system.
with any of the machines, get a media pack with prices from the supplier before you make a purchase. Also give them a list of your main media types you carry day to day and find out which profiles each of the machines has. best advice i can give is do all the donkey work before making the purchase. you will also find out quickly which supplier is the most helpful with all your questions etc so its a good exercise all round.

For Solvent i would recommend our UKSG Supplier of these machines.

    HP – Granthams

As for a laminator, we run a seal but recently purchased a mounters mate laminator from Omar. Gave us a competitive price and had us up and running in no time. Our lads love the laminator and has made our seal one pretty much redundant. https://www.mountersmate.co.uk
