Make a composite board stand up
Posted by Daniel Evans on November 1, 2016 at 3:37 pmHey guys
Having a dumb moment, how can I make a 2ft x 3ft board stand up, not decided on what material to use yet, but most likely composite.
Just about to print it and customer informs me that it needs to stand up, any ideas?

Thanks Andy, I’ll take note of them for the future but I need it asap, I was thinking more towards a correx stand I can put behind that I can make out of some left overs seeing as it’s not going to be seen

I’ve made some freestanding signs before out of foamex… If you leave a good foot or so of blank foamex at the bottom of your print. Score the back of it with a knife (about half depth), then take a heat gun to the front. Heat it up evenly and carefully (foamex will burn and/or melt if it gets too hot) on the front along the scoreline (the actual score will be on the back). Then using the end of a table as a straight edge, once the foamex has been heated, carefully bend the foamex backwards on itself. Keep going until it goes just past 90 degrees.
You’ve made yourself a freestanding sign!
I’ll post a photo of one I’ve done when I get to the office if you like?

Peter that would be great if you could, I think I get the idea but a photo would help

Hi Glenn, I’ve pretty much just done the same thing although I added a fold making it easier to attach to the board and it also folds flat
