i am outside today fitting a truck, its bloody freezing, this is my last winter doing this, i live on the top of a hill, the wind is realy strong up here,
any way, the land owner behind me has just agreed to sell me a few acres
of land, so in the new year, i will be putting up a 35ftx65ft shed
with a fifteen ft automatic door at one end so i can get any size truck in,
i just came back inside to get some circulation back in my fingers,
i have lost count on how many vehicles i couldnt finish because if the rain
& it realy annoys the customer as well, having to come back!!
so i reckon the money it costs to build the shed will be a good investment
as i can get more work done & on time……

the usual story is ….er but i need the van all week! then when it turns up on saturday, its coverd in s*** i recently put up my price for work &
felt that if i lost the job, at least i wouldnt be killing myself working for no profit!! last week a bloke came in & asked me how much to do his traffic van, normaly i would have been around €400+vat just for the laugh i sead
€495+ he looked at me & asked how soon i can do it!
i suppose if you are to cheap something has to give!

hi mark sorry to hear of your troubles, i have a cadet, same machine
any time i get an air lock, i remove the front cover & in front of you is two
tubes, a red one & a black one, ther is a connector on each one disconnect
one then get a syringe from a vetinary shop attach it to the part of the tube that goes back to the capping station & suck some ink out & in to the syringe, then connect the tube back again, do the other one as well,
you may have to do this a few times, hope this helps, i dont know about the reg marks as ive never had to laminate a print to re allign
as i am on true solvent ink & just use the od bit of clear jet spray if i am doing anything that is going to get some real abuse, best of luck with the machine, 😉 eddie

i used to sub out print stuff to a firm with a versacam the prints were crap
& faded within weeks, it turned me right off that eco sol stuff,
rob lambie sujested the cadet! & i can honestly say its the best thing i ever did, i have the machine now nearly a year, its done wonders for my business & i even supply the trade, as for the smell, my cadet sits about three feet from my work station & even if its running for hours i dont even notice any smell, once every few weeks i do a maintenance clean, only takes ten mins, now & again i get the odd air block, only takes a min to sort, my next step will be the cadets big brother, the grenadier,
& the best thing is the back up from b&p they are a great bunch
always happy to help, its great to know if you have any tech problems
you can make a call & get back printing in no time at all,

to see how it lasts! i cant see any fading yet & my phone gets some abuse
all day, in & out of my pocket, i can guarantee one thing though!!! a grenadier from B&P is deffinatly on my shopping list for christmas 😉

thanks for the fast reply rob! yeah digital is the future of our trade isnt it robert 😉 thats what was on my mind before i got the cadet,
no point in being at the station when the train goes away, you need to be on it, or you get left behind! i usd to think! what if i dont get much work for it, now i dont care if i dont switch it on all week, although it does get plenty of use, its the convenience of having it, only tonight i got a tranny booked in for the weekend he wants some photos on it, normally i wouldnt be able to do it at such short notice, as i couldnt guarantee i would get prints in in time for the weekend, now its no bother, i am even getting a good bit of trade work, as i can offer a service that cant be beaten, like
whear can you get a digital print on a saturday or sunday?
    i can do it 😉

nice one arthur! the gang at b&p are the biz! my cadet is runnig great &
the prints dont rub off 😉 last week i did a few labels, simple spot red on white background, the red was coming out a kind of orange color
when my client saw the proof he wasnt happy about the orangey shade of red, then i thaught hell i am in trouble now as i heard inkjets have problems with spot colours!, so one quick call to B&p & problem sorted in a second, just change the setting to spot colours in the troop rip,
the labels came out a rich vibrant red just as the client wanted!
great machine the cadet, & hopefully i will upgrade to a grenadier next year, best of luck with your cadet arthur 😉 & thanks to robert lambie
for saving me, as i was just about to get a versacamm (:) thanks rob, you saved me four grand i would have paid for the bloody laminator 😉 eddie

yeah rob, did 50 8″x4″ oval stickers today with contour cut, first class job!!
then this evening my first trade job came in, 100 5″x3″ simple labels plain text white back must have by tomorrow, so as i am only feeling my way & afraid of loads of media in the bin! i did a sample print & cut of five &
when the machine went to contour cut i did a smaller cut over all five labels!!! each cut was a lot smaller & well of line, its like its like the plotter isnt communicating with the printer! bloody typical isnt it, just when i need to deliver the goods things go pear shape, (:) eddie

hi rodney, i did some printing today, auctioneers signs, 24″x24″ all on the one peice, then mounted it wet on to 6mm corriboard, i found that the print was realy thin & it had a big tendancy to pull out of shape as i was taking it of the backing paper, it was hard work getting it on to the board
& getting it even, i got it in the end, maby i shoul have left it dry longer,
vinyl was metamark 5-7 digital 😮 eddie

keep em comming!! i have had labels done on the versacamm
& the quality was pure crap!!!!!! Well i didnt know any better until i got the same job done on the edge, same file, quality was fantastic, why!
every one says the edge cant do small text, from what ive seen
its just fine, when i questioned the roland people that did the prints for me
they told me the usualy use the low res setting as its faster & uses less ink
so does that mean for proper quality work, the versacam is realy more expensive on ink, also some labels i got done on the versa, started lifting around the edge, even the client complained! apparently if the ink is printed to the edge it burns in to the vinyl & starts to lift!, as rodney explained erlier
now if the versa takes all four colours to make one, say red letters on white back, shurley thats using unessasery ink, the edge uses just one spot colour, i think, whats the cadet machine, who makes it, ive not heard of one before,, many thanks for all your help gang!, i have to make some phone calls, tomorrow to either go ahead with the edge or not! 😮

thanks rob!!! as an ex trucker, i enjoy working on trucks, thing is, i gave up lorry driving cos i was drivin 18 hours a day all over ireland north & south, now i am working just as many hours, even sundays, but at least i can wach the kids growing up 😉 & i am at home all day with the slippers on! you cant see from the picture but ther was a big pool of water just under the back doors of the trailer, i couldnt get hold of a lorry to shift the trailer a bit so i ended up tip toe in the water every time i got up & down, i did it on my own, the bloody wind was cutting me in two as well
as loosing all the feeling in my fingers 👿 the haulage company is a new client, & needed the trailer on the road as fast as poss, so i had to jump when asked, he was well pleased & told me he has more new trucks & trailers on the way 😀 , phill your right about the bars, i think the letters always look more professional behind rather than on the bars,
thanks for the encouragement lads, eddie

i am in the same boat as martin phill, to soft, any way,
i suppose the best thing is to say nothing & mount them flat on,
at least he cant say anything bad about you, & next time he comes back for more work, just bump a little extra on to the price, to cover you on this one 😉 eddie

hi grey, thanks for the response, ive just spotted two mistakes in the bloody thing as i look at it now, i forgot to weed the inside of the letter a in cashel, also the caption, solid as a rock is to tall for the box its sitting in,
its to close to the edges dont you think, any way the client was happy,
now the rock logo i made up my self, i got the original picture out of a local phone book, but when i scanned it in the quality was real bad,
so i enlarged it, then out to the kitchen table, a black felt tip pen in one hand, a cup of tea in the other, fag in the mouth 😀 😀 😀
and cleaned up the image as best i could then scanned it back in & vectorised it, & bobs your uncle, it took ages to cut though,
any way chance for another cup of barrys tea 😉 eddie

terry, thats an amazing machine, one hell of an advert for any business,
i was often thinking of checking around the net for a repro street rod type of van in fiber glass so i could mount it on a chassis and put a diesel engine in, then i could put the fuel through the books 😉

nice one paddy 😉 , if you do a plain simple job, i recon most punters will say, is that all he can do!, i was talking to a lad the other day & he looked at my van & told me he didnt like it (:) i asked why! his reply was
it is to fancy & sticks out to much, i laughed at him & thanked him for what i took as a compliment, after all its supposed to stick out,
i get at least two jobs a week from people looking at my van,
so go for it paddy, do the biz 😉
