    Greetings all.

I took delivery of a Cadet today, and printed my first "pinup" girl stickers!
Looks like I’m about to have a lot of fun and hopefully make some decent dosh with the beast.

I’ve got an interesting job shortly, I’m hiring in 4 Spitfires for the airshow I’m organising in August and I’ve got to sign one with a big boxer dog type logo on the nose as this was a genuine WW2 insignia on a Spitfire based on a farm aerodrome near me 60 years ago…anyone else signwritten any planes yet?! Check out http://www.chaileyairshow.com

Many thanks for such a good honest forum, I expect to have plenty of questions in the near future!

    regards

    Arthur

Men look pretty daft in heels stockings and suspenders in my opinion! Plus of course how many US bombers had blokes on the sides of their noses?!

    Hi Arther

Why did you go for the Cadet and not the Roland. I was in Slough this week having a demo on the Roland. I’m still not sure which one to go for??

The ink issue is a very serious one with me. I did tests with the Roland inks, they immediately wipe off with petrol/meths/white spirit etc and if you rub the images with a thumb not too hard the ink moves. Even after a couple of hours and even weeks the same thing happens. I had my first demo with Roland last November and having read about this problem I found one of the original prints and the same thing happens after 6 months.

The same tests performed with solvent inks immediately after printing on the Cadet and i mean within 2 minutes and one rubs lightly at first with a rag soaked in meths and the image is stable. of course if you deliberately apply force and quite some force you’ll move ink, but then you will with ink on a paper litho print as well!

This seemed an issue to me as I want to sell stickers for cars motorcycles, boats and planes and don’t want problems. Obviously I’ll have to point out with larger signs that one has to be careful with petrol based solvents anyway, but with an accidental flick of solvent on a print coated with Roland’s Eco Sol ink, the ink moves back to the white surface.

There is a smell issue with the Cadet but one can buy an extractor device if this becomes a problem. I was printing in my shop last night with no windows open, admittedly not full coverage, just stickers full width of the sheet/roll with plenty of white gaps between, and the smell was not to bad at all.

It appears that there are preventive maintenance issues to be dealt with using B&P inks but provided that one is sensible and carries out these regular checks no problems should occur.

B&P’s installer, Grant was excellent. He arrived at 0930 and left after 1700 and was very thorough indeed and very patient with a novice like me who has had little experience of Corel Draw. I was relatively familar with the Roland Colour-Rip which is a Wasatch rip, since I already have Wasatch.

All in all, I think B&P have taken the Versa-Camm into the next stage of the market by addressing issues that Roland (perhaps understandably) would not tell you about, since they want to sell their Eco Sol inks. Either way, one gets a Roland machine since the Cadet is the VC and the VC has the same head as the Epson 10000 which is thoroughly proven.

I therefore recommend the Cadet, which is £500 cheaper now anyway.

    Hope this helps.

    regards

nice one arthur! the gang at b&p are the biz! my cadet is runnig great &
the prints dont rub off 😉 last week i did a few labels, simple spot red on white background, the red was coming out a kind of orange color
when my client saw the proof he wasnt happy about the orangey shade of red, then i thaught hell i am in trouble now as i heard inkjets have problems with spot colours!, so one quick call to B&p & problem sorted in a second, just change the setting to spot colours in the troop rip,
the labels came out a rich vibrant red just as the client wanted!
great machine the cadet, & hopefully i will upgrade to a grenadier next year, best of luck with your cadet arthur 😉 & thanks to robert lambie
for saving me, as i was just about to get a versacamm (:) thanks rob, you saved me four grand i would have paid for the bloody laminator 😉 eddie

We have applied plenty of graphics to aircraft. There are several issues you need to be aware of.

Firstly, you should checkout your insurance policy, chances are you will not even be insured to drive a vehicle airside.

Secondly, you must see a CAA approved engineer to discuss areas of the plane that you need to be aware of and that cannot be covered or blocked by anything, such as the static vents.

Are the graphics to remain on the aircraft after the show. 😮

    Good Luck

excelent advice barry but also aircraft paint is not like car finnishes and posibly on to a cavas covering choice of vinyl very important for my peice of mind i normally only mark fiberglass planes but speaking to a caa inspector first is a must and checked after as CFI of a gliding club i would expect nothing less

Hi Arthur, Hi all on the board

I had my new Cadet installed about two months ago now, me and my friend installed it because I live in Malta so B&P had to ship it for me. I must say that I made the right move getting a Cadet thanks to all the help I got from Robert and all the guys on the board, I have been printing ever since with an excellent out put , the machine impressed allot of my friends in the same business over here in Malta and considering of going for one like it or for the Grenadier.
I have tested different type of medias and all seem to work perfectly with the provided profiles on Wasatch software.
Anyone who is thinking of getting this machine, I will highly recommend it,
I am well satisfied both with the Machine and the supplier, B&P off course.
