Hi Neil
I already have someone that is interested in my old plotter etc.
I don’t have a digital printer, it’s a very basic operation.
It was more a case of seeing if anyone wanted to take on everything.
Thanks for your reply

It seems that as I said earlier the consensus is a good degrease / de wax / and clean
should do it generally especially on new paintwork.I believe Craftmaster are manufacturing the Keeps colour range now in their own enamels
along with lots of other specialist paints.Cheers

That’s similar to what Neil Davey said about using G3.

MemberMarch 11, 2016 at 3:32 pm in reply to: Vehicle preparation for traditional signwriting advice? As a follow up to my original post.
I was chatting to the guys at a commercial paint / body shop where I do
vinyl work about this. They remembered a sign writer using a scotchbrite
pad to key the areas before lettering. When the paint was completely dry
the panel was polished to remove any abrasion that was still visible. So maybe it depends on the surface or is it a choice the particular sign writer makes?
Any other brushies have any views? Thanks for reading

You have confirmed what I thought.
No job in mind, just something I’ve wondered about. I did one of the last C & G Signwork
courses in the early nineties which taught traditional techniques. The first job I could get
though was working with vinyl and I ended up doing that all the time so never developed the hand
painting skills.I keep saying I am going to resurrect the brushes and have a practice but never seem to get
round to it!Thanks again

I think Spandex supply their Image Perfect Hi-Tack print vinyl by the metre.
I don’t print in house but enquired once for a cut vinyl job. It didn’t go ahead
so I can’t comment on it’s suitability.Cheers

Hi
They are Stabilo All Aquarellable pencils. Code for White is 8052.
Signgeer do them in Black, White, Red & Blue.
I have used Brown & White for years. If you want a choice of 8 colours, Tiger Pens sell them.

Hi Shawn
Not sure if it is a font but if it’s only the Si5 that is required
I would use something like Eurostyle Bold Extended and just remove
the cut outs. The 5 looks like it has been adapted from the S so only the
top needs editing.Chris
-
Interesting
Having lost our one main supplier of Oracal (PaperlinX) it now looks like we
have the choice of three suppliers (Spandex, Antalis & Europoint)Just have to wait now for Rob’s email to see who we can get discounts from.

I currently use Veolia and have a small wheelie bin for general waste.
I will check out the recycling aspect with them.Chris

Hi Gary & Cheryl
I would be interested to know, do you have separate bins from Veolia for recyclable
& non-recyclable waste?I have always recycled my cardboard separately (vinyl cores & packaging) by taking it to a site.
Thanks

As I mentioned earlier & like Phill ING are asking for payment of invoices already paid to RHG.
The bit that concerns me is where they talk about applying late payment charges if not timely settled.
Chris
-
Received an ING letter as well.
The interesting thing is they quote my Account number as previously said, but in addition
there is an annex listing all my invoices for March and April with the correct dates, invoice
numbers and amounts? The thing is that the payments due at end of March were paid by DDM on 31st March.
I will try to contact Deloittes to get some answers.

I am in the same position as Martin & Rob. I have been using Oracal 751 for over 10 years
and have regular customers that require continuity of colours.I spoke to Antalis last week and I believe the intention is to increase their Oracal range / colours.
How long that will take is another question! Their current range is limited. At the moment the Vinyl Corporation have some colours in stock that Antalis don’t. What will happen
when they are gone is yet another question! My reason for becoming a member of UKSG was to benefit from Paperlinx prices so it’s watch this space I guess?
Chris

Agree with all of the above.
Plus, if you cut a triangular dart shape in magnetic it is likely to tear at the narrow part.

Hi Hugh
A few years back a customer supplied his own wheel covers
which I think came from Jag (don’t quote me on that)Anyway vinyl text would not stick even after cleaning and with application
of heat. The solution was to wave a naked flame over the surface and it
promoted the gassing off. Stuck fine afterwards.Obviously this can’t be done with a graphic already applied!!
Cheers
Chris
-
Hi Hugh
I recently did a stock check for my year end accounts.
The majority by far is vinyl with various pieces of sheet material. I don’t
have the other items like garments for instance. The total came out at around £1200. I am a very small operation though!

In Oracal’s 951 premium cast metallic range they do
one they call copper which looks as if it has a bit of a sparkle to it.Depends how realistic an effect the customer is looking for.

If you are referring to the Avery 500 Event Film it comes in gloss and matt.
The matt has a semi-permanent adhesive (removable) but the gloss has
a permanent adhesive.I used the matt recently for a customer who wanted to change motocross
race numbers back and forth when competing in different countries and he
reported back that it came off easily.Cheers

Congratulations Hugh
I’m glad things seem to be on the up compared as Martin said with
a little while ago.The type of additional products you mention may well be better suited to a retail rather than an industrial unit. I assume you will have help so that there will be someone manning the shop during normal hours. People don’t seem to mind if an industrial unit is shut when you are out but they take
a different view with a shop! All the best with it

Hi Alan
I havn’t used them for this type of banner but I know that Boldscan

Just thought I would add my comment about GCC Jaguar plotters.
When I took the plunge into self employment nearly 8 years
ago I decided to buy a Jaguar because the sign company I had
worked for used them. They had two 1220mm plotters that were
used all day every day.I am still using the one I purchased 8 years on!

it himself using cut vinyl masks. As he only has an old tiny cutter I have often cut larger patterns for him

I suggest you do a test piece for your customer to try

Hi Mo
As already mentioned it is worth looking into the Small Business Rate Relief situation (and for anyone else who hasn’t done so).
Until this year I have been in receipt of 50% relief but in this year’s budget it was increased temporarily to 100% until next September. This has happened despite a change in government.
SBRR is available to eligible businesses whose rateable value is less than £18,000 (£25,500 in Greater London)
There are conditions but it is worth checking with your local authority to see if you qualify if you havn’t done so already.
Cheers
Chris
Sorry should have said the 100% relief is available on properties with a rateable value of up to £6,000. Between £6,000 and £12,000 a tapered relief applies and above £12,000 businesses do not get a discount but are entitled to have their bill calculated using the small business rate multiplier.
Apologies for any confusion!

I’m with Hugh on this one, I use Bristol and have not had any problems.
The number I use is different though, 0117 972 1671. The one you quoted Hugh I think is the original Europoint number in Bristol.
Ben the rep popped in last week and he confirmed that there is now a minimum order for fluted plastic (Correx type). You used to be able to
get a couple of sheets at a time but it’s now 5 minimum.Cheers
