Vehicle Badge Removal
Posted by Chris Sharps on September 12, 2013 at 12:26 pmHi all
I thought I would share this in case anyone has not heard of it before.
I have just finished fitting some van graphics and the customer wanted
the rear badge removed for text to fit in that area. They were stuck on Berlingo ones.I can’t remember where I heard it but I used fishing line behind the badge with a sawing motion to remove it. It came off easily with no damage to the badge or vehicle. It did leave some badge tape but this just rubbed off with my thumb. The little amount of adhesive residue that was left then easily cleaned off.
Hope this might be of use to someone
Cheers
Chris

Braided fishing line works better then monofilament (nylon), though you’d need to know someone who could spare a couple of mtrs as the good stuff is very expensive! you’ll also need a couple of lumps of wood to wrap it round and use like a cheese wire – it will slice fingers if you don’t!
-
I used to wind it around a nut and bolt to use as handles

We use dental floss cheap and in a convenient little box

monofilament works fine for me although I have never tried braid, I just wrap it round my hands because I’m not very clever 😳 😳

ive got a couple of big wooden toggles like you used to get on duffle coats – centre grove to wind the fishing line round and sits comfortably in the hands 🙂

I have a nifty pair of gloves connected by a cord that I thread through my jacket sleeves thus ensuring I don’t lose them. 😕
Whenever I need to remove a badge from a vehicle, I un-thread my gloves from my jacket and use the cord to produce a sawing action behind the badge, (with the added benefit that the gloves prevent my fingers from being cut unlike that experienced by my friend Martin) 🙁

Phil
Are they braided, monofiliment or just plain old knitted gloves (?)

I like the way its colour coded so you can tell the outside fingers from the inside ones…
-
No good for me though Cheryl as they are not marked left & right 😮

I usually tie two boy scouts to the end of my fishing line. Just wrap it around their waists a few times and Roberts your fathers brother. Mind you they do make a bit of a noise when you use them, I have tried some socks in the orifice and it does muffle the sound quite a bit.
-
hope you meant the gloves and not the boy scouts!

Hello, you could use a guitar string if you wanted a braided type.
