Hi I have a query to ask has anyone had problems sticking graphics onto glass ie them just peeling away. I know this seems daft but recently had a client who has said when applying lettering that it was just peeling back from the window, I have used the same batch of vinyl for other jobs and had no problems. could there be something on the glass (its new glass) that is preventing it from sticking.
    thanks
    Tracey

This has been brought up before here and I have encountered the same problem on a particular job.
Being new glass it’s possibly self cleaning which has a special surface designed to repel molecules.
There are nano technology products which glazers also use to keep glass clean which make it nigh impossible to stick to.
As yet, when this problem arises I have found nothing to remove the offending treatment.

Thanks Peter this did happen to me a couple of years ago as well when applying opal frost panels to a large number of newly installed glass partitioning and had an issue with a couple of the partitions the fitter eventually got it to stick after a lot of cleaning. Will see what happens when they try again next week.

Thanks Chris, I’d forgotten about that. Never tried it though.

If these are graphics that you are sending out for people to fit themselves then also worth bearing in mind it might simply be down to the customer not cleaning the window properly before installation.
Some people don’t seem to understand that just because it looks clean it may still not be clean enough to go ahead & fit vinyl. What do you normally recommend customers use to clean glass before applying graphics??

I can say it works, we did some contra vision and after using this we got good adhesion 😀

Hi Martin yes they are being sent out to companies but they use applicators that are used to applying graphics but I think I may suggest using this cleaner mentioned. What do you recommend for cleaning as I would just normally use soapy water.

I use IPA for pretty much all of my cleaning, you can buy it in small battles from the chemist so your customers would be able to get hold of it.
It does tend to be a bit expensive when bought that way, I normally buy a 25 ltr drum from a chemical company but it wouldn’t be worth your customers buying in that quantity plus they may have problems storing it. I keep it in a fire locker at my unit.

I use that too for application and applicators that I send graphics to are aware of it

One I run into every so often is, whilst beaming ear to ear at having been SO helpful:

"I’ve cleaned the windows for you with Windolene"

    Arrrrrgh!!!

Ah, well – see you when you’ve cleaned that off…
