The good job will pay you back many times over. -
The final length of the print will depend on the feed calibration, which you can adjust.
If the lines are tight together the whole print will withdraw a bit.
As you adjust for wider print strokes, the end result will be a longer print. -

MemberJune 20, 2018 at 3:28 am in reply to: Layered vinyl peeling off plastic sided trailerquote Robert Lambie:Thanks for the feedback….Looking at the majority of the fail areas.
It does not fail on the single layered text as you say. so i would rule out the media and the surface its fitted too as the blame.the real issue is you have “stepped” the overlap of vinyl to create the shadow.
This step has reduced the pressure of “contact friction created “and needed” when applying the vinyl with your squeegee, as it bumps over the ridge at speed. so the larger areas are all firmly bonded but the surrounding area of the letter at the top is “loose” in comparison.
also, because of that “ridge/step/bump” it creates a small cavity behind the film also. Now, If you look close to the areas that have failed and the progressive deterioration direction. they are more at the top of the letters working their way down or down and around the shape of the “step”.
What is happening here is the water coming down off the roof or rain in general, is running down the face of the letters and running inside the “cavity” created by the ridge.
This now dirty water running through the cavity behind an area of vinyl that didnt have the same amount of pressure applied “just around the overlap” is deteriorating. Coupled by the accelerated shrinkage of a Calendered film in an area that doesn’t have the proper tack/adhesion that it should. this is the foundation for a progressive fail like this.
Continual dirty water coming down from the top, resting on the flap forward of vinyl, the more it will curl and peal back like it is in the picture, ultimately leading to the fail you have now.
Clear evidence of this on the letter “N” the dirty adhesive residue shows how the water has hit the letter at the top and worked its way down either side of the leg of the letter, forming a sort of pointed dirty adhesive mark. the clean areas just below this, is obviously were someone has tugged back the dog-eared vinyl by hand. Same applies withe the “R” etc.It is elementary, my dear Watson. :smiles:

Then paint the colour you want on top of the clear.
This will seal the mask against further ingress of paint, and any clear that gets under the mask will not really be very visible later.
I would use a quality external acrylic paint for this job.Simon

Am I right in thinking that because the solvents are heavier than air the extractor should be situated at ground level? Which is a good thing because the air down there is not as warm as the air above it, so you would not be wasting so much heat.

We had one customer that didnt pay us for over two years.
Because the bill was only about $300 (150 pounds) we didnt really think it was worth court action, other than an invoice every two weeks or so, to no response whatsoever.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago she showed up on facebook, commenting on a story about lowlifes who had nicked a package that had been delivered to them mistakenly and who then put the contents on an auction site for sale.
The hypocrisy of it really annoyed me.
I waded in and said "thats no worse than people who dont pay their bills for two years."
She paid our bill within five minutes, and I deleted my comment.Amazing what a little public shaming can do.

That was more than 8 years ago.
There was no difference in the print, and we were still running the original heads until a few months ago, which is a pretty good run for a busy machine.
The only drawback is our machine doesn’t recognise the chip on the cartridge, so we just swap it for the old one when we change. -

I go by the way Adobe Illustrator describes it – when you create a rectangle it will ask you for width first, height second.
I think that is pretty well the industry standard.
Customers usually don’t know this.
They will often ask you for a banner 5 meters LONG by one meter WIDE.
It makes sense to them, so you have to be really careful. -

Martyn I like the idea of printing the line! I reckon we could do it for much less money that way!
There is no reason it wont look just as good, supposing we can match the colour…Using knifeless tape on the larger group of lines would involve eight perfectly parallel strips all along the body length..

IMHO a business only becomes viable for sale if it can run independently of any input by the owner, and provides a positive income on top.
Anything short of this and you are only selling a job, some tools, and some stock. -

Try the-blueprints.com. They sell individual profiles online. You can usually find what you want there, (although the quality is sometimes not all that.)

I started with a small shopbot – I think it was 3 ft by 2 ft – but soon realised that apart from the fact I was getting bigger jobs, most materials come in 8 x 4 sheets, so it became a bit of a hassle – every time I started a job the materials had to be cut down to size with a saw or ordered to be cut at source.
This added heaps to the time for each job AND the cost of materials, not to mention the extra bits of material I didnt need which I had to store or dispose of.
I pretty soon got an 8×4 shopbot to replace it.

Hi
We are about to print an image that is just 30 KB onto a pair of canvasses total size 2.4m x 1.6m
The customer is aware that it is very pixellated, even in their large living room, but they like the pixellated effect and are certain they want to go with it. This pic is of a beautiful beach in Tasmania.
I have done very low resolution large work before, and it usually comes out quite interesting, if a bit abstract.
As long as the colours are good and the customer knows what to expect , it can be really successful.

I use teflon squeegees. they are more slippery on the surface, and they are less aggressive on bare vinyl

They probably need an anchor figure from you to determine what their budget SHOULD be, as they have no idea what it all costs.
Throw a few numbers at them, from high to low (ie. Routed letters, Clear panel on standoffs, vinyl on wall) chances are they will go for the middle number.Simon.

If the print is heavy all the way out to the edge, you will have to leave it much longer than 24 hours to outgas before laminating. This is usually the cause of this problem.
Edge sealer might save your job if there is something to adhere to, the black polypropylene core of the dibond panels is not very stickable. Perhaps if you plane the front edge at 45 degrees with a hand plane to expose a bit of aluminium you would get a better result with that. -

I ordered from All Print Supplies, because they had the colour in stock.
Package arrived this morning, and on the invoice they have charged me only £19.50 +vat per meter. That is a lot less than I was quoted over the phone. Is this some weird sort of marketing technique where you quote high and charge low?
I wonder if others will do the same if I place an order with them?Still substantially higher than the NZ price, but a bit easier to live with.
Anyway, now I am completely confused.

One way vision film works best when it is darker on the inside than on the outside.
It’s function is to confuse the vision, so your eyes see the surface but not the darkness behind.
It does not magically block the light from passing in one direction.
Also, the darker the print, the easier it is to see through. -
