  • Printer Alarm – No more dirty / damaged media

Posted by David Stevenson on November 8, 2017 at 2:30 pm

Every so often we start a job printing with good intentions to attach it to the take up roller only to get caught up in something else. Before you know it you look round and there’s a big pile of print in the floor. I decide that an alarm of some type was needed so here’s my "designed in the pub, built in the shed" creation. Made from a scrap of DiBond, battery, buzzer, couple of switches, & a magnet. Not to mention a good old glue gun. Simply sticks to the dryer with a magnet and when the media gets as far as the micro switch the alarm goes off. Simple

Genius! you can give almost any problem to a sign Bloke & you’ll get a solution fairly soon. Must be a trade thing

Very clever David, I like that

personally I always use a mtr of old vinyl taped to a tube which I attach to new prints, done it for years.

We had the same problem so a while back we bought an entry alert device, a cheap £15 sensor you would put by you door etc so if somebody walks past or crossed the sensor it makes a sound, we put it on the floor in front of the take up with the receiver under the printer so when the Media gets close to the floor it crosses the sensor and the alarm sounds reminding us to do the take up [emoji106][emoji6]

Any idea the amount of printer suppliers reading these threads, hope yous have patents in place lads? 😆 😉

I think its a great idea David, that can be adapted to any type of machine. Well done!

HP brought out the traffic light warning system on their big LX3000+ machines.
First time i saw them on these machines at PressOn in London a couple of years ago. I then saw HP roll them out recently on their new smaller machines. I do not know if they make a sound as such, i never asked but ide think they should as the machines do everything else as well as send me notification to my mobile phone when media jams and the like.
