Nope brand new units, also as the sign showed only 3 months old… if glued there is not much surface for mounting it onto? Frame is only contour I guess…

Size 4 metres x 1,4 metres so weight is also an issue.

  • Use sandpaper 400 or 500 to smoothen everything but you will have paint damage afterwards!

For wat it’s worth I use the Orajet High Tack 3105 or 3106, no pre-treat needed and sticks as hell, it is also printvinyl so 2 for 1!

Hi there, I also have my workspace heated by long range infrared heaters, 4 each 4000 watts.
The great advantage is that it does not heat the air, but the objects placed under it, so for me ideal for wrapping because when heating a van, the metal warms up from top to nearly bottom. The hang at around 4 metres above the ground…

    Brand is Thermelec

Indeed I have picked these samples too, had ASLAN reference as well, but they do not produce that certain reference anymore :(. The 3M is very very expensive and I have half of the roll as lost material.

It’s a common problem with monomeric vinyl, I can’t use monomeric and deep dark colours for printing…
Lucky me all I do is more polymeric and cast!

Both are 3M 1080, the green is pineapple matt metallic I think… colour shifts from dark green to light green in sunlight! Had doubt about the colour first when client chose this one but came out great!

Too bad the lifespan of these materials is very short 3/6/12 months depending on the brand.
It need to warrant the project for 5 years (interior application)

I have a latex 360 and do not use monomeric vinyl too much problems with laminating dark prints > prints shrink, bubbled surface etc.

I also have to feed approx 25inch of material before print if not material will get stuck inside printer with printhead carrier error… for smaller printjobs a absolute no go printer 🙂

I only use the Orafol range: 3651 for intermediate vinyl, 3551 for polymeric, 3951 for wrap

Hi Dan, last year in december I have purchased myself a latex 360. Caviar Graphics is a one-man-show and short delivery is one of the advantages…

For example a client called me if it was possible to wrap the side of a cooled tent, only problem job had to been done within 2/3 days… printend the 95 sqm in approx. 6 hours at high quality, direct laminated the whole thing and only 5 hours later drove 400 kms to france for the application!

The printer has nog 2300 sqm done, second set printerheads, and last set was not needed, but when you have job with 100 sqm in one run you don’t want a printhead that suddenly drops dead 🙂

Startup is really really fast, inks pretty cheap – for me the 360 is like a desktop printer that just works!

Oh and you should really do a print with a flat colour, for a few meters, no lines of whatsover no pixelling, no stained print, but realy smooth colours!!

A plus is that I can monitor the hp one my iphone when i am away eating and the printer is running or when i go home and started a 8 hours printjob, I can follow everything on my iphone!

have a look at my facebook page to see the various projects done with the 360 (search for caviar graphics on fb)

another question, you print with overlap and then cut the vinyl I suppose?
I ask you this because I have a painter thats wants his prints done by my, but he insists in not have prints with overlaps, but cutting straight is even harder to find border against border – I already told him that was almost unpossible 🙂

different media means different colours, because other white colour of printvinyl and laminate…
I am very happy with the Orajet 3951GRA, has a very strong glue and I like this specially for Mercedes Sprinters with the deep recesses…

I have rather stronger glue, so it will stick even after little stretch! Changed from 3M onto Oracal, because the 3M is much more sensitive to surrounding temperature also!

The dodge ram was etimated on 2500 euros, the client asked some extras (windowtinting, dipping external lights, changing the wrap on the hood, and also wrapping of the trunk cover) so we ended at nearly 4000 euro ex taxes!

    Hello Robert,

I have a question, printer will be installed in a storage unit, where I install everything. The first Floor is approx. 100sqm, and i was wondering if I should not make an room in the office room.

HP advises 15degrees temperature for area where THE printer is standing, but i am afraid that in THE weekend in full winter temperature could drop in THE weekend at just 7 degrees…

How do you handle THE room temperature for THE 360?

The building is named ‘Jacob van Maerlandt’ after a writer, so the poem will be a selection from one his work…

@ Robert : they did not aks for a specific brand, but as for projects like this I did not think on any other brand than 3M…

I have to guarantee this total project for a total of 5 years, any defect must been corrected within 7 (work) days…

I have received a document with 40 pages with al their demands, so making worries about materials is one easy thing to eliminate!

    For example :

When quoting for the job i declare that they may consult my bankaccounts

I must make that each subcontractor speaks dutch, has dutch nationality for minimum 5 years, and i must have a insurance for each of them.
Insurance must been emailed to a certain person for approval by goverment within 10 days!

I have to make a handbook from every installation, with type of vinyl, how to clean, and prevent damages (stupid I know). Must been copied to 5 ex.

and so on and so on…

they have asked for an etch with guaranteed lifetime minimum 7 years, and it’s in fact glass panels each 2,7m width and a small aluminium frame.

Etch has to be applied on inside buth each glass panel is another office, so office in and out…

I will get further details and i have 40 days : for them approving the layout, me ordering materials and installation.

I am now looking for some subcontractors to help me with this, because at this moment I am still working as a graphic designer on daily base, and caviar graphics is just a second job 🙂

Has anyone of you people had a look at an air release etch with sun shining on it…
I do and It looks awfull, you can see the pattern in wich the glue is laid out on the surface…

I will take a picture next week and post this on this forum.

(Vinyl is applied on inside, needs to been seen for people walking outside)

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

The problem with translucent vinyl is that it really blocks light. The clients wants a vinyl that does not block any kind of light, but it must be a bright lemon colour…

When printing direct onto etch I do think that you won’t get a bright colour finish, or certainly not the intensity.

    John,

This vinyl is transparent, I am looking for a coloured vinyl that does not block out light, but must hide from viewing…

It has to have the same aspect like an etch, but has to be lime green…
