have known lots of people with spaniels you have to be really carefull of thier ears because they are long and furry they can get stuff going on in the inside just a warning but I’m sure your vet has told you, you still didn’t tell me his name !!!!

    Hi Rich,
We also have a 6 year old bitch called Daisy.
The breed does have quite a few health issues, in fact Frosty replaced our 4 year old boy that we lost to ‘Shar-Pei fever’ back at the start of the year.

    Phil,

my friends shar pei has just had 5 pups ……… you’re right about the health issues. All of the pups have already had to have their eyelids stitched back. It’s very difficult to get pet insurance for the breed because of their problems.

Sadly Misha passed on to the other side, she was 16 years old and I still called her "puppy" She was always petted by everyone who saw her, usually total strangers. 😀 She was a Maltese Poodle. Lovely breed.

We have just returned from Dog Training with Frosty the Shar pei. He sits there looking all cute and friendly, whilst we stand for an hour praying that he manages to wow the trainer – despite not doing any practice all week or that he doesn’t turn into the ‘spawn of Seitan’ and show us up!

we lost tyson to a brain tumor about 2 months ago, he was 11yrs old,

as for the other guy, riggs, he’s a big teddy really..also have mastiff x,gus just dont have a pic of him on this pc..

recent events while they are terrible in their own right, haven’t bothered me too much..its all down to how people treat the dogs involved… any dog can be lethal in the wrong hands….personally i never leave my son alone with any dogs including my own.. kids and animals dont mix well unless supervised.. :lol1:

i’ve helped out with a rescue group that specialise in bull breed dogs, eg staffies, pitbulls, mastiff etc and seen some beautiful dogs that just ended up in the wrong homes…and ultimatley ended up in the rescue centre because people could no longer handle them or were using them as fighting dogs etc… its hard to see what some dogs go through.. 🙁

    Well said Brian,
In most cases, when a dog goes bad, it’s the owners fault.

But as you say, dogs and kids should be supervised, only because certain breeds have been developed by man to fight without reason.

most breeds can be controled if trained properly but there is always the rogue factor,

    Peter

I couldn’t agree more with both of you. I have 2 GSDs which years ago were the original ‘devil dog’, then it moved on to Dobermans, then Rotweillers, then the pit bulls. Now it’s back to Rotties ……….
I’m a firm believer in the fact that it’s the owner and not the dog that’s at fault most of the time. My hubby runs dog training classes where everything from Fergus the 12 week old spaniel who’s the size of a peanut!!!! To Heidi, the 6 month old St Bernard who resembles a Clydesdale horse ! 😮 and Blue the 10 stone rottie. All are great and can share the same space without any issues!
You must treat a dog with respect and know it’s capabilities, you must also treat a dog like a dog, treating them as ‘children’ can be extremely harmful to the dog and those around them.

This is a great thread, very interesting to see your pets 😀

While I have my own business with vehicle graphics at home, I also have a dayjob as a dog control officer in Reykjavik.

We had one dog (bitch) & two femalecats but the older cat, Matta (black&white) passed away last week at 13 years of age 😥 so no I have only one cat, Rannveig (white&gray) who is almost 6 years & then we have Doppa (spots) which is a mix from purebreed German Shepard (mom) & mix from Icelandic sheepdog/border collie (pop). I am often asked if I have imported a new breed to Iceland because she is a peculiar mix. People also always think that she is a puppy, propably because she has those sad puppy eyes & is slim and muscled, she is only 26 pounds. But she turned 6 years last september.

She is a "killer" guard dog, we live in a big one flat private house & the neighbouring houses have been burglarized but never ours & once she let us know that the house beside us was being burglarized & we could call the cops.
She has a one flaw though, she barks alot & we have never been able to decrease the barking even though she is the worlds obeying dog so we have learned to except it 😕

One more thing, Doppa smiles at people she likes. The Icelandic Sheep dog which is a recognized purebred does this also, they roll up the upper lip so you can see all the teeth & many people find this uncomfortable if they are not use to it but this is how she shows affection 😉

I’ve got a lovely golden "Cocker" called "Willie". I tried to take a picture of him to show you all here but couldn’t see him for my belly 😕 😉

Here’s Harry our 6 yr old Airedale Terrier who has never grown up ( I was warned!) along with Millie my daughter. He needs a good trim really but everyone loves the "teddy bear" look and they moan when do him.

Here is our dog, Missy, in a quiet moment, cuddling her teddy bear. A ridgeback x. Full of energy and frightfully protective…… 😮

This is Ozzy. Just over a year old…very fluffy and daft as a brush. He thinks that any customers coming into the workshop are there to see him!
