  • What’s the best ceiling lighting to buy for workshops

    Morning all

I have pulled every thing out the office over the last week. Over the weekend I plasterd the ceiling. I’ve put a few of the old flourescent lights back up this morning.
I’m looking to buy some twin fluorescent with daylight bulbs. With diffusers if possible.
Can anyone suggest what’s best to use and possible suppliers

    Many Thanks Adam

I would advise looking at light with colour temperature of 6500 Kelvin, that is ‘natural’ daylight…

Pop to your local electrical wholesaler (demans, Senate etc etc) buy fluorescent pop packs / Battens (light fittings, twin or single) – some will come with diffusers, others (named brands) will be an expensive extra. And yes ask them to order in daylight tubes – as Tim says get the 6500 kelvins, there is a cool day light rated at 5000 kelvin so best tell them which ones you’d like.

I use twins in the workshop without diffusers, but use high frequency pop packs (no flickering).

I have just changed the bulbs in our print shop due to colours looking different when prints taken outside and I was advised to use Philips 965 tubes, it was explained to me by the wholesellers that daylight bulbs are designed to combat SAD disorders but the Philips gives you the least varience between inside and outside printed colours.

Have to say they work really well.

    Kind regards

    Russell.

Hey Russell, I spend hours the other day trying to print a nice grey without the green tint. Ended up late at work but got it dead right.

Next morning, took the print outside and it was a lovely shade of mucky green!

    Peter,

We did a gray camo wrap fro rage buggys the other day looked fantastic inside but as soon as we took it out it turned green, this was the main reason for getting the colour correct lights.

    Kind regards

    Russell.

    Afternoon All

I have sorted the lights and picking them up tomorrow

    I got 7 units of 4 x 36w 6500k daylight bulbs. Each unit is 1200mm x 600mm.

Ive gone from having 6 x 58w yellow ish bulbs to 28 x daylight bulbs.

Its going to glow (not to bright i hope) other wise ill have to start removing some bulbs.

    Cheers for the advice Adam

it’s most certainly worth it…. my old print room was daylight 6.5K i think… looked great.

My new room needs the lights sorting..
