  • Which masking vinyl for use on painted walls

Every now and then I have to paint some signage in a museum.
At this moment I use Avery Signmask Blue with medium tack application tape, but I find it hard to remove the application tape, without removing the signmask stencil also.

I was wondering what you guys use as stencil vinyl, to paint lettering onto painted walls…

I use Oramask 810 fro Orafol

You may have the same result though as that is the way mask is made
It isn’t really made to stick down permanently (I know that’s obvious).

Other vinyls do have better tack hence easier to remove application tape

Mask is also softer which means it doesn’t ‘snap back’ when removing from wet paint which causes a light spray of paint to hit the surface

I’ve been using Avery signmask for the blast cabinet & it works well so rather than changing what you know is a good mask have you thought about trying a different application tape?
I tend to use the clear type tape from orafol for anything that I think might cause problems with application tape removal as I find it comes off a lot easier than the paper tape, been using it with the gray avery signmask without any problems.
