    Hi Phil,
The guy rang from colorific to see if ink had arrived and that it was ok, as it wasn’t in the machine at the time I tested it with a swab dipped in the ink and painted it to the vinyl, so not exactly the same as printing with it, it seems ok but printing may give different results. Something I did notice about a year a go was that the yellow changed colour. I have clear cartridges as it is a bulk ink set up and when filling the yellow from a new bottle you could see the old ink was bright yellow the stuff was more a golden yellow, makes no difference on the prints but in the tank you could see the change in colour so the yellow ink has certainly changed a little.

Yes I noticed this the other week on the yellow. I had printed some black and yellow stickers and the black was fine as it should be but the yellow wasn’t bonding to the vinyl surface properly. I called Colorific and they replaced the ink under their inkstream warranty. Bit concerned that you have found this as well as either the product has changed or QC needs to be improved.

If the water is pooling then there is not enough soap in the water to make it act as a wetting agent, I’ve done HIPS wet before and had no problems.

  • Go here

agree to t & C’s then next page click on colour left side of page and select your printer from the list versacamm.

  • If I remember right you download the firmware and software for doing it from Roland website.

It is probably the pump not working on the black/blue side, black ink has travelled into the blue head if you print a block of pure cyan it should clear but you may have to print quite a bit out, I get this problem when i do a head soak, it can take up to 500mm X printer width block to clear totally but you should see it gradually clearing itself as it prints.

You mean the mist sponge in front of the wipers? If so you can get them all from digi print. Think i bought my pump and adapter kit from Digi print as well. If you do buy from digi print then there is a discount coupon code on the homepage of this site (bottom right of page) should get you an extra 5% off.

Its got a self clean you set it in the service menu if it isn’t on already. You should leave it on at the mains and turn off on the front panel otherwise the self clean won’t work, I’ve got the caps from digiprint fitted to mine, caps are a consumable with expected life span of six months mine have been on quite a bit longer and still working fine. Chris could be on the right track with the pump maybe not working properly these machines were fitted with a pump that was prone to failing early.

Just had a look at mdp’s it is a KPMF vinyl, I have used it a few times when it has come in chap 8 kits, it is good quality cast and to be honest I don’t think there is anything between the oracal and the kpmf both are 2 year cast vinyls.

I don’t fully understand the situation but you could threaten to expose them on the boards if they are not forthcoming with the money or the laminator they owe you. There is nearly 17,000 registered users of this site that is a lot of potential customers, some will be reading this thread, i wouldn’t want my business spoken about negatively on here, might just give them the kick up the ar$e they need.

I agree with Hugh the vivaro recesses aren’t anything major just feed the vinyl in it will be fine the only bit you may have to give a little stretch is by the arches. Friend of mine did his vivaro with 651 and it never popped in over 3yrs i kept checking it everytime i saw him expecting it to show some sign of lifting but it never he later got a new van and used a kpmf vinyl and two weeks later it had lifted in the recess.

Depends on the kit some kits come in strips of fluorescent and reflective and would take a while to fit some come with the reflective laid on the fluorescent already and are very easy to fit. I’ve fitted a few william smith kits which come ready laid up and an hour for one man is more than enough. They really are very easy to fit.

That looks like media drift. It won’t be the encoder as the cutter does not use it only the print head. Something worth checking is the pinch rollers at the ends as they can get hairline cracks in them. I just changed mine after reading a post by Simon Worrall and all is good again. (Cheers Simon)

Hi Hugh, Is it made from acrylic? That is the effect you will get from acrylic out gassing.
Did you remove protective sheet then lay up after 2 hours? After removing protective sheet leave for 24hrs at least, you can apply some heat from hot air gun to aid the outgassing.

The reason the vinyl is not sticking is probably wax. They have been made with the gel finish on the inside and resin finish on the outside. GRP resin has a wax additive that is added by manufacturers for odour control it floats to the surface of the resin keeping in a lot of the styrene fumes.

GRP is still curing for up to 2 weeks after it has hardened so it is feasible that it is out-gassing styrene. I’ve never put graphics on any GRP that new so have no experience of it happening. Another thing to watch out for on new grp products is mould release wax used in the mould which is transfered to the product when released you can also get synthetic mould releases which are like silicon and are a lot harder to remove than traditional wax.

You should not use cotton buds for cleaning as they can leave strands on the head always use foam. This is what I was told when I bought printer.
Chemtronics is the ones I prefer the ones with the large round head.

    Hi Simon,
I had similar problem to this in the past.
It is probably being caused by the use of transparencies. One way round it is to flatten the artwork but that can leave a pale box around objects using transparencies. I never get the problem when it is a file generated by illustrator only when it is a customers artwork generated by corel. Thats not to say that corel is doing it wrong or illy is it’s just that they do things differently from one another and this is the result. Get the customer to send file as pdf that should work. It is a very annoying problem that doesn’t always happen and is only noticeable when graphics are in final stage being cut.

Just had a look at your machine spec it uses 1110w whilst in full operation and 34w in sleep mode. On my rate it would cost 14.5p per hour to run and sleep mode about 0.5p per hour.

Think I remember my versacamm being about 1.5kw or 2kw with heaters on which would be about 20p-26p per hour on my electric rate. Depends on what rate your paying.

Thats good then because it is oralite that i have ordered not the standard oralite think it was 5900e or something like that. There is some new regs for traffic signage which comes in in July 2013 must have ce or something like that stamped on it. Also seems that class 2 is now referred to as ra2. Found that out searching for chapter 8 info. I think i know why it is all so confusing it’s because it is EU legislation.

That’s conspicuous tape Steve. From what I have read tonight Martin A is right retroreflective seems to be the thing.

I have ordered some reflective and asked to make sure it was class ref 2 or above as to play safe but would like to know for sure for the future, can’t afford to fit non complying vinyl as it is for a very large customer, also they look to me for advice on vinyl matters and it doesn’t look good when i shrug my shoulders with a blank look on my face. Wish they could write the regs a bit clearer it not a lot to ask. I feel a phone call to the DFT coming on.

This is what i mean after watching the video and reading the 3m article i’m still non the wiser. (By the way Rob did you notice in the video they say to use soapy water.) Gill from Willy Smiths says in a post class ref 2 or above yet metamark have said their reflective is ok for chapter 8 chevrons but on their website it states that their reflective does not conform to either class ref 1 or 2 so if it is the case that you must use class ref 2 or higher then metamarks wouldn’t be up to the job.
To confuse me even more another signmaker has told me that a manufacturer of chevron kits told him any red reflective will do. I understand the conspicuous marking tape rules as they seem a lot clearer on the grade to be used.

Chris it does mention about laser cutting on page 2 left hand column. Seems unless bonding the acrylic edge no further treatment is necessary.

Some work I do is for a photography/framing place and they mount loads of prints to laser cut acrylic about 10mm thick and never get stress fractures, the laser also leaves a very neat bevel.
