Well it wasn’t a silly question really if you know the story…
I paid for a second hand seal 62s hot laminator in December. The premises I was moving to fell through so i didn’t have anywhere for it…asked if they could resell for me…fine no problem they say….5 months have gone by and no return of the money I’ve laid out. The laminator was re-sold but unlike me, they paid half the money for it and were using it. Ive chased for my money back for months….
NOW I’ve secured a unit (another story) and as no money has be returned, I’ve asked for my laminator.
This guy has been using it for the last four months and I would like some sort of compensation…is that unreasonable? and if not…what should I be asking for on a second hand seal laminator per month for usage?

    tough one to call really.

    two sides to this..

Morally they should give you some kind of rebate as they’ve been using the laminator rather than reselling it as you requested, yes?

Business wise, they’ve been storing it for months and could just as easily ask for payment in that sense.

while [if in your shoes] I would probably be thining the same as you. I would be tempted to just go and pick it up, say thanks for looking after it and take it away – presuming there is no damage other than what you may have already beed aware of.

Easier to let it lie and get on with it than worry over it… been there too many times!

Tell them that if you don’t get paid in full you will put it in the county court.

    Sorry,
I am now [I think] following this properly… I’d say they owe you and it’s worth chasing – I assumed you’d got the laminator coming back to you but think you’ve bought another one?

Cheryl, if you bought and paid for the laminator but found that you couldnt take it because your new premises fell through and you had no where to store it and you asked the seller to try and resell it for you. He should have contacted you before selling to agree with you on a price to sell it for. When he then sold it the new buyer should have paid you or your seller the amount agreed. So is it the new buyer or the old seller that owes you for the machine?

If its the new buyer then you should have someone go round and demand payment or take the machine back.

I don’t fully understand the situation but you could threaten to expose them on the boards if they are not forthcoming with the money or the laminator they owe you. There is nearly 17,000 registered users of this site that is a lot of potential customers, some will be reading this thread, i wouldn’t want my business spoken about negatively on here, might just give them the kick up the ar$e they need.
Hope you sort it anyway Cheryl.

Thanks all…ive been promised a delivery for the 6th June…
I know I’ve got a good deal despite all the hassle….I shouldn’t have paid for one when I hadn’t secured a place to put it…but sorted now. Ill post pics of new unit as building work progresses…
    exciting times….

    quote Vic Adair:

He should have contacted you before selling to agree with you on a price to sell it for.

Yes nothing was too much trouble…it would be sold at the same price I paid for it…but the new owner only paid half ……..promising to pay for the other half and not.
Anyway….when I get the machine in good nick….Ill be happier…

makes sense now… technically the ‘new owner’ doesn’t own it if they’ve not paid in full – thus you could simply send the boys around to pick it up (subject to legalities, or not!)

    glad its sorted now though!
