  • Paying suppliers on receipt of statement

Posted by Kevin Flowers on February 9, 2014 at 9:03 pm

    Hi guys
just wondering if any of you use this process, basically buy on account and when you are sent a statement pay whats owed. I have done this with Robert Horne since the days of Europoint so quite a while and have never been told i have been paying late etc etc then out of the blue i am sent a interest notification for paying late. I have emailed them and put my point of vue across especially the fact that they have never even hinted at a set payment date and never questioned payment methods for the past 6-8 years.

So just looking for your thoughts as i am struggling to find reasons to stay loyal to RH, prices continually rising, out of stock items etc the only redeeming factor is their delivery service is excellent at the moment.

So your thoughts if you care to

Something not right. Not happened to me yet.
I buy very little from them but that would stop if they did that.

Simply ask them do they want to continue doing business as ye have been for the last 8 years, then tell them to sort out there rising prices and stock levels instead of hounding there good customers (:) Loyality has to be a two way street.

I had a letter off them about two weeks a go informing me of the changes, also a direct debit form for an account but i always pay by card. it left me with the impression that they wanted me to open a credit account probably to do away with card charges.

Most of our suppliers are 60days end of month, so I schedule the payments to go out the last day of each month.

I’ve spent some time comparing prices between different suppliers and there are some deal’s to be had out there.

Well it would appear that Robert Horne / Paperlinxs view is to just ignore the the question of why they have never questioned me paying on statement received like i have done for years and just say it should have been paid by the 31st you owe us interest because you paid it on the 6th. Its not even because of the money i have questioned this but just the principle. They also won’t give out an invoice for this amount say i have to pay it because its on the statement so going to check this with HMRC.

Glad to say i have spoke with new suppliers now and will start to order all main materials through them.

I pay by card too but have found them to be rather obtuse at times.

Europoint were great, never any probs with stock as I recall. If i phoned late they would happily put the order through and ring back in the morning or, on occasion if I explained that cashflow was a problem for a couple of days, would even ship out and let me call in as promised a day or two later.

when it changed to Robert horne all went well – until after a number of months they realised they’d not processed a number of my card payments and suddenly got arsy over quite a lot of money.

The cut-off times were introduced and initially were no problems until they then messed me about a few times – their computer system wouldn’t allow them to send the order until payment was sorted, which wasn’t done at the sales terminal but in an office… meaning I often missed my orders being processed despite being 30mins in time. same with late in the day vinyl orders – noone there to process the order despite accepting orders to whatever time it was meant my delivery was delayed.

Now it’s paperlinx, I’ve had other issues along the lines of cut-off times and processing payments. I’ve not dicked the company in 8 years so why would I turn them over for £100? If it’s near the deadline they should process the order first and come back to me for payment, it’s not like I’m a new customer and they get their cash a lot quicker from me than account holders.

There should be some flexibility. On the whole they provide me a great service but sometimes, I genuinely wonder why I stick with them sometimes, habit perhaps, that and I use mainly oracle products.

still, I’m not one to whinge!

Sorry to deviate from the topic but who are the main agents for Oracal products now in the UK ? When I type in Oracal MDP supplies come up, but they only have 651 listed on their website.

i gave up on the site just spoke to them direct they have a depot in Dartford which is about the same distance as the RH london depot. Looking to pursue opening up a small scale sheet & materials supply in my area now also been talking with Amari & Blackburns Metals so time will tell.

I just feel that after all these years its a shame that RH has such a cavalier attitude to keeping loyal customers on board

if anybody from RH looks on here think its time ye woke up and smell the coffee if ye cant look after the good long term customers god help the new ones or do ye think yer above all that!!!! 🙄

I have personaly used RH for the last 17 years and my predesessor years before me back when they were ADP. They used to supply 95% of my requirements. Many years ago I used to have a rep Brian Hunkin (still remember his name) call on me regular and keep prices sharp and competative. Sadly he was forced to take an early retirement and my good relationship with ADP/RH retired with him. I hardly buy anything from them now.

Last week I had some engraving laminate from them. £40 a sheet but got a call to inform me there was a minimum charge of £70.00 and £20.00 delivery if below this value and £10.00 for cutting. So I had to buy 2 sheets of laminate to get to the minimum charge and free delivery. (made sense to me for the cost)

There’s loyalty for you. Doesen’t exist anymore. It seems they go further downhill with every take over and they have been taken over many times since my first dealings with them. 🙁
