Adhesive for Foamex to Plywood/MDF
Posted by David-Foster- on October 6, 2013 at 5:43 amHi
What is the best adhesive to laminate 10mm Foamex (Ex-Cel/Foamed PVC) to 10mm Plywood or MDF please?
Cheers.

I’d probably go for Evo-stik – used as it says on the tin. Probably best to lightly key both the board and the Foamex with rough sandpaper and dust off well with a damp cloth and isopropyl or something similar.
If for exterior use, seal the edges. -

Thanks guys, will try that then. It’s only for indoor 🙂

For indoor what David says 528, but don’t worry about the well ventilated room bit, it’s more fun in a tiny confined space 🙂

Contact adhesives are great where both surfaces are nice and flat and you have help applying big sheets as there is no slippage and you will not get a second chance.
For where the ply is a bit rough or applying single handedly then the trend is toward a PU adhesive (commonly Gorilla glue but plenty of trade alternatives). These are similar to PU foam and the slight foaming action gap fills any rough surfaces and until it sets fully (10-20 mins but quicker if surfaces are dampened) you can reposition and clamp if necessary.

I’ve used Thixofix before for doing something similar.

Yes Ian glue sniffing used to be popular around these parts 🙂
Colin, yes good idea as some ply’s aren’t smooth. Largest will be 1m square and if I use contact I’ll butt it up to a straight edge so it should line up perfectly.
Thanks
