John are these straight edges to work off of ie a ruler type thing or straight edges on the signs you are making ?
If work edges the best straight edge you can get is an engineer rule.
Now when i did my apprentiship ( i’m a qualified machinist) we did have some pretty long rules. 2.5M i honestly can’t remeber seeing one of them that long. But you may be able to get a small machine shop to make you some, Milling then surface grinding. but tbh they arn’t going to be cheap. If you need them for sign boards ect yes get them done on a router as Nigel said but once flame polished wouldn’t this then loose the machined straight edge?

Prince Charles is driving his Land Rover to Sandringham to see his
mummy.
He enters the gate and waves at the guard, just as he pulls onto the
driveway he feels a *bump* and a high pitched howling noise. He quickly
stops the car and gets out, to his horror he sees one of his mummy’s
Corgis
badly crushed under the wheel of the car.The poor dog is already dead and Prince Charles does not know what to
do.
His mummy will be heart broken and she will be very upset with him.Just then there was a bright flash and *pooof* a beautiful fairy
appeared
floating in front of him.“Who are you?” Asked Prince Charles
“I’m your fairy godmother” she replied in a soft voice “I sensed you
were
in need and am here to grant you any wish you desire”.“Any wish I desire” repeated Prince Charles “What luck! Well as you can
see
I just ran over one of mummy’s dogs and she will be most upset. So
please,
can you bring the doggy back to life?”The fairy godmother took out her magic wand and walked over to the
squashed
Corgi and after looking at it for a while she said “It is very errrr,
squashed and I’m afraid my fairy magic has its limits you know. Isn’t
there
anything else you desire, another wish i could grant you?”Prince Charles scratched his head and thought about it for a while “Ah
ha”
he said “I know what I would like to wish for. Please can you make
Camilla
as beautiful as Diana was?”The fairy godmother had a stunned look on her face, she paused for a
second,
“well, perhaps I could have another try at the dog”🙂

I had one last year,
was caught doing 37 in a 30 ( in all my years in aylesbury i thought it was a 40 but hey ho)
anyway all it said was the road i was on , i asked in what direction i was going as it was a mobile van that clocked me, and my wife drove one way and i drove the other way after picking her car up.
a few weeks later it came back with us going towards Bicester, so i owned up.
a few weeks after that it came back saying oxford.
so i sent aletter back saying how was i clocked going 37 in 2 directions at exactly the same time on the same day on teh same road.
charges droped 🙂

Some ppl huh 🙄

Thats what i do as well ( i have a huge off cut bin now ) i just wasn’t sure if that would be the right approach on something like this, to help keep in line with teh printed stuff,
but hey if they want the sign they will pay for it 🙂
-
That looks cracking Paul, i thought printed first off as well,
but how do u price up to bring it in line with the printed stuff? or is it a case of with this customer price is no option as they want a great looking logo?
i normally do price per meter used but that would cost way to much for that?

MemberJanuary 16, 2005 at 6:52 pm in reply to: monolith concrete foundations? & 3D letteringquote :but how are the ones that are just stuck to the wall aligned? As you have no locators to mark with? When i get these to do i get the company who cut my letters to make a template out of 3mm foamex and position the letters inside the cutouts (does that make sence?) usualy u can get away with using scrap material so the material is cheap and it’s offset to the job anyway.
Or u could use masking vinyl with a small 2mm boarder, weed out the letters stick that on then glue your letters inplace and remove the cut mask.
thats what i do anyway 😕
-
The first of many i hope 🙂
did u apply wet or dry ? how did you find your first experiance?
-
John thats what my old man always taught me when decorating and using maskingtape, wasn’t sure if same applied when using other paints though, should have thought about it realy 🙂
-
Looks nice Dewi
did u use paint mask for the lettering, or all done freehand?
and if paintmask how long u leave it on before taking it off

Right spoke to DVLA, they say it’s nothing to do with them, and they got me to speak to the BSI, they say it isn’t anything to do with them speak to DVLA 🙄
they gave me a standard to buy bsua145d/1998 which helps NOT. they couldn’t tell me whats in it, but i could buy it. but they said DVLA can tell me…..
DVLA said it’s BSI who tell me.
Sounds like their ar*e doesn’t know it’s elbow.
So legal or not who knows.
I spoke to a friend who is a MOT tester and for a MOT it will pass, but is it within the law even he doesn’t know 😥 -
Looks loverly, and applying all yourself 😀
Nice one
-
quote :whilst living on the farm he has driven the Land Rover around, this does not qualify him to drive a motor vehicle on a public road, because he hasn’t passed the test as required by law.
But by the same degree learning to drive and passing the test it gives you a license to drive but it doesn’t make you a good driver, it just means that you can pass the test and you are competant to drive on teh public highways. It’s experiance that makes you a good driver imho (but u do need the license) But once you have the license you can use your car on teh road, and we all see every day idiots out there that just can’t drive.
I think just because you pass a test to say that you are competant in using the piece of equipment isn’t enough, you also need experiance to go with it. When i worked for the railways we had loads of ppl passing tests to use equipment, by the HSE legislation yes they could use it, but they honestly didn’t have a clue, many a time i’ve seen accidents waiting to happen and some did happen, by ppl havinga qualification but no experiance on how to use it safely.
I don’t know what the answer is to this but it does make a good topic 🙂

Take a photo of it ,and bring it up to full size in your sign package by noting a dimention on the car.
ie: door handle or door width ector u can see if impact have the right image on their disks and buy that, they are well worth the money and will pay for themselves in no time.

Thanks for that Carrie

Those Wurth wheels Rob, i have lost my confidance in them 🙁 at £17.00 for a pair it’s a lot of money to throw away when they keep breaking, but maybee it’s just that damn reflective thats doing it.
Jill what are tose little chislaers like? can u post a pic of one and i’ll look over here to see if we have something similar. if not u can become a agent for them in teh UK and i’m sure you’ll make a mint if they are as good as u say they are 🙂

MemberJanuary 8, 2005 at 9:00 pm in reply to: whats best way to remove reflective vinyl?Cheers Rob
I did quote him an hourly and didn’t tell him how long it would take, luckily he stayed around for a while and saw how hard it was to remove it 🙂 so no worries there.
The only draw back i have with teh wurth tool is the dust it creates, it’s a nightmare, on normal vinyl i have never had a prob with it, but it just didn’t liek the reflective at all, i had to put too much pressure on it i think which kept breaking the shafts.
I used a wurth glue remover, never had aprob with it before it just didn’t want to touch this stuff 😥
I think i’ll try some of that vinyl remover from 3M or Grafytp, i may be a cheeper option than buying in the machine, and a lot cleaner too i would think.
Thanks for the help, and i’ll keep u informed how i get on.
