I usually go on the Wednesday. No reason, I just do. It’s only about an hour’s drive for me so I’ll be on the lemonade. 🙁

Actually, it was good fun meeting at a non-existent stand. Trying to identify people who have used a 30 year old Avatar photo was quite an enjoyable challenge. The only one who looked like his picture was Henry, and that was only because of the massive beard!

    So Nik, Rob,

Let me get it right, you are both travelling down on the Wednesday, staying overnight and then going to the show on the Thursday and meeting at the Signworld stand (not a euro stand 😉 ) Ok fine with us.

Rob are you looking at doing a bulk hotel/B&B booking somewhere ….. in which case if you are, Nik might not need to worry about booking a B&B and then we can all stay together at the same place and have a pyjama party ….. oooh no maybe not :lol1: getting slightly carried away there!! Not sure we could all cope seeing Rob in his pink fluffly bunny slippers & jim-jams 😉 :lol1:

i think the best day would be to meet at the show around 2pm on wednesday at signwolrd stand. then head to the bar… 😛
from here we can arrange to meet back up at hotel for all those staying over till thursday.

(thats if it is ok with everyone else?)

between now and end of this month, if your definately going to make it on said dates, reply to “this” thread. that way we can see about arranging some sort of bulk stay over near exhibition. if i can arrange a good deal, we woul need to pay this in advance, at least deposit of some sort?
thats IF we get a good deal. we will need to count heads in order for that to happen.

anyway, if your going reply and let us know so we can count heads. 😉

I will be travelling up on the Tuesday and kipping in my camper for the all in price of about £5 🙄 Yes I am a tight git but while I have a camper, as the saying goes “HOME IS WHERE YOU PARK IT” :lol1: Why should I pay inflated prices just for a kip. Then its a 15 minute drive to the show on Wednesday (I even get a lie in as well) and arrive fresh as a daisy ready to pound the halls before the 3.5 hour drive home again.

Would be good to see the real faces, I did meet about 4 guys last year by literally bumping into them. (I don’t think any of them post here anymore 🙁 )

Exactly my thinking. On the booking I mean, mind you, you’re right on both counts :lol1: He did get to sleep next door to Bob Marley last year though 😮

Wanderer, I think most ppl will be going Wednesday or Thursday. On the Thursday you tend to get the large print guys giving away huge posters and panels, stuff like that. They’re pretty cool.

  • Bill Dewison

It was the Bob Marley room, not the actual guy :lol1:

I didn’t come away with freebies last year, although I saw alot of ppl walking to their cars with prints etc. I’m not too bothered this year either. I should imagine it’d be useful for newbies though, especially anyone wanting to fill some wallspace in a workshop or shop. I think most of the large supplier stands give away packs with samples of vinyl, squeegees, things like that in, also useful if you’re just starting out. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the new add-ons for the Epson printers, I think the company doing them was i-Sub.

We can’t stay at your place then Brian, looks like we’ll be about 50 miles away at this rate :lol1: Either that or its £200, padlock the minibar and not eat at the bar type of hotel. 😮 Bit cold to kip in the car 😕

The Travelinn places book up really quick. There are a couple of travelinn type places on the NEC site, but they were booked up 6 months before Sign UK.

Would have a look here still some rooms in places near the NEC…

how close is birmingham city centre to the nec?
there are a good few places available from about £60ish a night in the city.
holiday inns have a fair amount of rooms and also hotels.

crown plaza has rooms available, cheaper than last year if booked in next few days.. starts about £90

ive did online bookings for 5 rooms plus but nothing comes off… as far as discount for a party booking. guess that would have to be haggled over the phone. the thing is, i dont know how far that would get you anyway as the nearer the date bookings the prices go right up because they know they will shift the rooms anyway.. 😕

if we arrive at NEC on the wednesday and stay over, i think it is best to stay on the complex. (although expensive) thats if some of us are traveling by train or plane. i know phil and alison flew down and back last year…
what i mean is… we meet at show then head some place for food and drink.. if not local we have to taxi it to the hotel… then next day, if we wanted to go back into the show.. its a taxi back…
or if we got there by train or plane, we still have to travel back to NEC area as thats were airport etc is…

im not fussed, ill go with the flow… but if we want to get together it would be good if we are in same place or near enough. 😀

  • Bill Dewison

Whats the maximum everyone is willing to pay for a night then?

Let me know and I’ll scout about tomorrow, see who’s offering what… need to know how many ppl are wanting to stay over as well obviously.

Also, who’s going by car? We may as well sort out some sort of car pool or something, to go from the NEC to the hotel. I’ve got 6 spare seats (well, 5 as I already have a passenger) so anyone going by plane, train or being dropped off can always hitch a ride to the hotel… thats if you trust my driving 😳

Going along the lines of what Robert has said though, the benefit of an onsite hotel is the free parking on the hotel complex, and its only a short bus ride into the NEC building. £90 isn’t all that bad considering it so local to the show (about 5-10 minutes walk or a shuttle bus goes up and down there every 10 minutes)

    Cheers, Dewi

Jobe, I would fill in for you for 5 mins on the stand while you grab a beer 😀 😉 Cannot guarantee the stand would be in one piece and all stock etc still there when you get back though :lol1:

    I’ll be there.

I can’t justify the overnight though, the NEC is only forty five minutes away. Or thirty minutes if the LEOs are on a tea break. 😀

Can you do similar for me as well Carrie? Chat to ppl, tell a few jokes and pose for a few photos whilst pulling silly faces… meanwhile I’ll be propping up the bar testing whether Birmingham beer is similar to Lancashire beer 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

    Hi Carrie,
5 mins to clear the stand, could do with you at the end of the show on Thursday.

Mind you after 5 mins work we would spend 3 hrs trying to get off the car park, I reckon I might just have to insist on a hours lunch break to meet everyone at the bar.

Birmingham beer is know way better than lancs beer. I’m Bury born and bred, brought up on lancs ale. The ale in the midlands tastes somewhat watered down. I feel sorry for them really lol 😀 dont knw what they are missing.

I could practice a northern accent ….. :lol1: ….. Trouble is I may end up sounding Russian instead 😉 I don’t look Viking-ish enough to fill in for you though Dewi ….. people would spot the difference, not sure what would give it away mind you??? :lol1: 😛 …. the mould was broken after they made you 😀

Left the horned helmet out of this pic unfortunately, but I’ve got an interesting one with a batman suit, a carrot and half an old kipper 😮

Has anyone had their tickets through yet?
Reason I’m asking is that they have written to me inviting me to register for tickets even though I’ve already done so on the website.

I don’t want to queue up with all the students for 3 hours to get in!

Oh, and Dewi, I’m getting me barnet cut tomorrow in the vain hope that I won’t be compared to a certain car enthusiast!
