    Hi all

    number plates again 🙂

I have a customer who has to range rovers which he wants to use sticky bonnet style number plates on, now as far as i’m aware and can read into the legislation, these are no longer legal unless the vehicle is pre-1972?

so they would have to be supplied as show plates ect.

Does anyone make these ? i would think that the white would have to be reflective and normal black lettering. but i need to make sure and i dont stock white reflective, so if anyone can help or steer me in the right direction i would be greatfull

    Thanks

    Paul

Right spoke to DVLA, they say it’s nothing to do with them, and they got me to speak to the BSI, they say it isn’t anything to do with them speak to DVLA 🙄

they gave me a standard to buy bsua145d/1998 which helps NOT. they couldn’t tell me whats in it, but i could buy it. but they said DVLA can tell me…..

DVLA said it’s BSI who tell me.

Sounds like their ar*e doesn’t know it’s elbow.

So legal or not who knows.
I spoke to a friend who is a MOT tester and for a MOT it will pass, but is it within the law even he doesn’t know 😥

Mort, in a obscure demented sort of way, it is almost comforting to know that you guys over there experience the same beaurocratic bungling and incompetance that we experience over here.

From my experience, do the job, and you’ll find out just after you finish whether it is legal or not. 😮

    Hope it all works out.

    Cheers

when you speak to these people, get their names and position, date & number. its all you can do really to back yourself.

i could be wrong, but until its on the car, its not necessarily illegal.
just type up a small disclaimer and ask him to sign it that you have pointed out it maybe illegal. that with the above contact info and date should keep you clear. 😉

after that, ide just make them.
thing is mort, with all your calls here and there, will the job make enough to cover it?

p.s. i would definitely do them in reflective

Get a copy of the motor vehicle construction and use regulations and it will tell you all you need to know, strictly speaking the plates will be legal in themselves but from my kit car building days I seem to remember that the angle they are mounted at is part of the legislation too.
