Posted by Paul Goodwin on February 16, 2005 at 4:13 pm

Hi all hopefully someone can help me with this one.

This is my first printed vinyl job so i’m def a newbie on this one.

I have a few images to put on a van, using Photoshop i have grabed the images from the photos i want to use and put a white boarder around them, the question is this, how do i put a cut path on the outside of the white boader for the guy who is doing the printing to cut in corel?

does the cut path have to be done in corel or can it be made in ps and exported, he only knows how to use corel.

    Thanks
    Paul

The Paths to Illustrator command lets you export Photoshop paths as Adobe Illustrator files. This makes it easier to work with combined Photoshop and Illustrator artwork or to use Photoshop features on Illustrator artwork. For example, you may want to export a pen tool path and stroke it to use as a trap with a Photoshop clipping path you are printing in Illustrator. You can also use this feature to align Illustrator text or objects with Photoshop paths.

To use the Paths to Illustrator command:

1 Draw and save a path or convert an existing selection into a path.

2 Choose File > Export > Paths to Illustrator.

3 Choose a location for the exported path, and enter a filename.

    4 Click Save.

    From Adobe Help

    Cheers guys

I made a path and can import that into corel, but how do i link that with the image in corel?

also i notice when i open the .psd image in corel it doesn’t bring accross the white outline i have around it. ( made with outer glow )

Use the path as a powerclip shape. Powerclip the image into that and you can add an outline to that

soory mort i din not think you used corel

import the image in to corel best as a tiff size the image to its correct size then draw a path leave it as a hairline over the top of the image where you want the print to be cut at the correct size save as a corel file give it to him.

sound like you enjoy hard work Chris.

Draw a path by hand when a few clicks does it for you?
