Garrie do a visual check to see if the strip is flush all the way along the width, the symptons you give could mean a few things.

    1) Uneven cutting strip

    2) Head rail is not true, turn the machine off and move the carriage along the width, does it move freely all the way along.

    3) If the point of the problem is where a grit roller is then it could point to the grit roller not sitting level.

Are Spandex doing the Valuejet ????

Would have thought it would be ArtSystems, as most have said, I would opt for the JV3 if all you want is a printer, give the ValueJet another 12 months to prove itself.

The JV3 is getting a little long in the tooth now, but is tried and tested and a reliable workhorse and so worth having, if you need a all in one print and cut then the best spent money still is the VersaCamm for the time been.

April 24, 2007 at 3:40 pm in reply to: what is the best brand of laser machines?

Tom, C02 lasers are not aggressive enough to engrave / mark or cut bare metals and you should also avoid cutting or engraving pvc as this gives off corrosive gases and will eat away over time the internal workings of the laser unit.

Yag lasers are the type of laser you would look at for working with metals, but the prices for this type of laser is roughly 3x the cost of a C02 laser.

Your are correct on metal marking spray, it also comes as a roll of tape now too.

As for the best machine, well look at it from this view, you will normally find a Synrad , Coherent Deos or Rofin Sinar laser tube in the lasers supplied in the UK, so choice should be based more on build quality, warranties and of course reliability of the machine as a whole, oh must not forget price too 😀

Next week is Sign UK at the NEC, probably the best place to see all the different models on offer and get a hands on.

Pound for pound the VersaCamm is the best buy, the JV3 is a lovely machine and a proven workhorse, but you do need a vinyl cutter to go with it, you also need to purchase a RIP if you don’t currently have one.

Valuejet, a good machine, not entirely proven yet, give that another 12 months, still need a vinyl cutter to go with it though and RIP software, probably will become a serious threat to the 54" VersaCamm over time.

We deal with around 6 different printer manufacturers so don’t think I’m been biased on what I say, but at the moment it is hard to find a package that can compete with the VersaCamm on price and the quality of the machine.

Rhys going back to your point #1, if most of those on here have never come across the type of cutter your are buying then any help you may need will be thin on the ground.

As a supplier point of view, any cutters bought outside of the UK then in our own interests giving any kind of tech support is limited to very little to none existent to imported machines, so expensive phonecalls or elongated e-mails may have to be done to get things rolling.

It may be prudent for you to see if any of the members here have any kit to sell, that way at least you know 95% of the kit is genuine and support will be offered.

Shane we used to do normal vinyls in 1 ,2,3 or 4 metre lengths but had to change to the 5mtr lengths minimum due to the enormous amounts of offcuts we now have in stock.

For the record, Garrie if we have offcuts in stock below 5mtrs in length, we will sell at a 50% discount rate than our normal rrp.

For the best set up you would have to go with the Mutoh SC cutter, problem is the SC 850 Ultima is 660mm and so no good with the Rocky print width of 914mm, so you would have to go for the SC 1400 Ultima which then pushes the price up.

If you have the budget I would seriously suggest you look at the Mimaki JV3 printer and cutter bundle as they have reduced prices just to try and compete with the Roland VersaCamm, my opinion at the moment the best pound for pound buy as got to be the VersaCamm.

All you do in Corel is manually reduce line thickness to 0.001 mm and then send via the print option to the cutter.

Speak of the devil as to say 😀

If it is the glitter film from our "fashion films" then the settings should be:

    150 C Temp , 10 – 15 seconds press time and washable upto 30 C max.

At 170 C you are way too high and can adversely affect the application and life of the material.

October 11, 2006 at 9:33 am in reply to: A couple of questions about vinyl for garments

I would press at 150 to 155 degrees for 15 seconds, harder to apply garments then extend the application time rather than raise the application temperature.

170 degrees or higher is close to the materials breakdown point and will be detrimental to the life of the material.

So yes we can still supply a self adhesive textile material and still retain the same price as the original.

    quote David McPhillips:

here here Mike I’m 100% behind you on that one. we need to make each other aware of problems as at the end of the day we are the ones that are keeping the suppliers open and in business they need to remember this and start being more honest and help US the customer more.

If we use the power of knowledge these suppliers wont be able to keep telling us the lies they tell just to get a sale and the more rubbish they sell and the bad services they supply well eventually put them out of business.

    Dave

I’m all forward for an open discussion with customers, but I would like to say without "us suppliers" you would not be in business either, and for myself personally I never honestly tell a lie to any customer because it will usually comes back to haunt you. When you supply so many different products from materials, software, hardware etc then a good working knowledge of everything is not impossible but a tad hard.

What I do say is what I know to be correct to any customer, I have nothing to hide and if you can correct me on anything I say to you then hey I have learned something new, and I like to learn so I can pass that knowledge on.

You got to understand we and you make mistakes, we or you are not the enemy but are on the same side, so make criticisms and denounce suppliers if you have had bad service, it helps us to put things right, but think of the furore that would happen if we posted here on this forum those who paid their suppliers late just to warn other suppliers about customer bad service.

This is not meant as a have a go at customers but a view from the other side of the fence, a open discussion between all of us.

If your dongle is a usb one and it probably uses HASP drivers, new computers and their chipsets no longer have HASP installed from new.

If I was at work I would send you the link to the website, but I’m home with a beer, try looking on scanvec amiables site or search for HASP drivers.

If you still need any help email me

Dave in terms I understand this is how you use this material, you print on the side which does not have the clear polyester protective sheet.

Once printed you remove the clear poly sheet (foil) and then place the C-Print onto the garment (print side up).

Then either use a silicon release paper or teflon sheet over the print and then apply to the garment with the heat press.

Nick this material can be used on thermal printers, solvent, eco solvent, but we cannot give accurate settings for Dave to use on his printer as we do not use or supply that make of machine.

Dave, here are the application instructions:

After printing and cutting, remove image from backing, cover with a siliconised paper or Teflon sheet and proceed with application. Protective sheet has to be removed after application has gone cold.

Considering the variety of different base materials available on the market, transferring instructions given hereafter should be taken as a general indication.

    Temp: 150 C
    Time: 10 – 15 sec
    Pressure: Medium
    Washable to: 50 C

Dave as for how to use with the Gerber and get the best results would be the trial and error side, as we do not have access to this equipment for sampling.

    Regards

To be honest John I do agree that is how most companies do treat their customers, even ours. What I said was more of a personal view, to me I give the same courtesey and time to all I speak to, well 99% of the time.

So whether it is a three hour demo of a £600 plotter or a £85k printer I will spend as much time as that customers wants, because I want each customer to come back week after week for their purchases.

You can call me a jobsworth 😛 but thats the way I am

Ok this is not in defence of the errors that we have made more of a pointer to the daily events, an example if you like.

Take 1% of our customer database, roughly 50 customers, who call to ask for samples, take that into account over 100 orders to process per day and the majority of orders are multiple items and not just 1 box per order.

Now you can see where and how these errors can occur, add that to that the possibility of postal deliveries going astray which we have no idea if and when they happpen, you start to see the picture.

I have no fail safe idea on how to prevent samples from not been processed or reaching their intended destination due to the fact when humans are involved then human errors occur, however if you do not receive your sample you can always give me a call and I will personally do the sample for you.

Final note to Brian, it does not matter whether you spend £100 or £1,000 per month, at the end of the day you are the people you keep us in business, fair dues some people and I dare say companies may think that way but please don’t tar everyone with the same brush.

    Thanks
    Nigel

Ok an answer to the problem, just email me with your sample requests, I will then pass them onto the sales office for processing.

If you do phone for a sample please ask who you are talking too, It will help me to address this problem if you can give me a name.

    Thanks

Rob. Thanks for an honest reply mate. You always seem to get a biased opinion from manufactures / dealers. Cheers Rob.

    Matt

You can flush a VersaCamm then use inks from a different manufacturer and that is not biased in anyway because I never put the make of inks in this post 😉

Puma II, they are good machines and will have no problem cutting flex , flock or vinyls and reflectives.

However they do not have a "camera / eye" for contour cutting, you would have to look at the next machine up from the Puma which is the Jaguar II or Jaguar III.

Very Big Advantages – for a guess

Do I win a prize for been right 😀

As a supplier I tend to find that most people do run a mix of design s/w like corel or adobe along with dedicated sign software, it does seem to be the norm these days.

Have you a Dell computer Marcella, reading into this it does appear to be part of the hotkey functions on a Dell keyboard, but I have also read that it can be a security issue for computers too.

There is a fair bit to read if you Google
