  • Wanted: 2nd user solvent printer

Posted by Marcella Ross on February 27, 2007 at 9:31 am

I’m looking to buy a 1300 or 1600 wide printer. Preferably printer/cutter, but not essential.
Something no more than 2-3 years old, must be in working order.
Looking to get foot in the door here so I’m not looking to spend £10K!!!!!!!!! 😀 😮

Would you not be better off leasing a machine Marcella? Don’t know the ins and outs but with buying a second user machine at that width I would be asking myself why they were selling it. If it were a small machine say 610 or 910 wide then I could understand a company upgrading to a wider machine but if a company had a decent solvent printer which already printer at the sort of width you are looking for why would they want to get rid of it?

You should be able to get a 54" Print & Cut Resolve for £5-£6k Marcella. Not the fastest but a good machine for the money. May be a little more than 2 years old though. Wouldn’t let the age put you off too much though.

Martin, there’s always the possibilty that someone may want to sell because the machine is not being used to it’s potential…… or they wish to upgrade to a higher spec, or they are retiring, changing business or a dealer may have a machine taken in as a part exchange etc etc …………

I’ve nothing to lose by checking this out Martin.

I’m not saying your wrong to look at all the options Marcella, you are quite right there may be all sorts of reasons why someone would be selling one it’s just that these days I tend to look at the negatives more than the positives and I wouldn’t want to see anyone spend a lot of money and then regret it 3 months down the road when they are having to spend more money to keep it going.

I can`t go into the details cos I ain`t that clever but I was told there were tax benefits of lease purchasing over just buying. That was what swayed me anyhow. And besides you get a brand new machine with absolutely no wear and tear. I got mine through Grafityp and have been delighted with the machine and there service.

    Well done Grafityp.

I’ve always been of the train of thought that if I was going to spend £X each month, I’d rather own it after two years than not. If you know what I mean.
I know there’s tax benefits……….. but that still doesn’t sway me.
    Perhaps I’m old fashioned 😀

Grafityp ………….. ooooooohhhhh Nigel, someones singing your praises 😀

Yeah thats what I always thought but after my term all i pay is a nominal fee (which should be around 1 months fee) and the machine will be mine. But what is good for the goose ain`t always good for the gander and it is down to what suits you best.

Good Luck with it anyway. As I`m sure all printer owners will agree it will change your business.

    Cheers

Marcella Silverskies are selling a Resolve print & cut machine for £4950 and that includes the RIP. I paid £21000 for mine new.
I have had one of these for four years now and apart from being slow they are a good machine, and you can, if you are confident enough, change your own print heads ( they only cost £70.00 each) I’m using full solvent so I do get blockages now and again but with eco-solvent I think that solves the problem.

    good luck

Marcella, somebody posted a link to Silverskies, may be worth having a word with Noel there. He is in your part of the world. The Resolve is a Roland based machine & was B & P’s version. A few other people converted them as well not sure what other people called it (?)

Ooops forgot to press submit 😳 A little under £5k less than I thought. It is the sort of machine that is not going to lose much money if you decided to sell/upgrade it in the future.

Then go for lease/purchase. After the lease term is over, you make one small payment and it’s yours. That way you get a nice NEW machine, with warranty. I use Lombard North Central for all my financing and you can even get an insurance with them to cover your machine in case of breakdown, etc.

Thats why I thought leasing might be better not really up to speed with all the ins and outs of it but you get a brand new machine that at the end of the contract you can buy for a very small payment. During the term of the contract it is kept serviced by the company and if it breaks down through a fault they will repair or replace it. You can put your lump sum in a high interest bond that pays a monthly income so you know the payments are covered or just a high interest bank account and set up a monthly DD.

Not 100% sure Marcella, but I think you’ll get the new HP in the budget your looking at, I believe Spandex sent a flyer round for it including RIP for that kind of money (and Brand New with warranty!).
