How to? on Grafi-C-Print
Posted by Dave Bruce on September 17, 2006 at 12:15 pmAnybody used the above before, I am trying to print with the Gerber, what settings do I need and it looks like I need to remove the backing before applying to shirt?

OK phoned Grafityp, said it is just trial and error, so I have tried and errored enough and need to get shirts out for tomorrow, so anyone used this successfully?

Dave, here are the application instructions:
After printing and cutting, remove image from backing, cover with a siliconised paper or Teflon sheet and proceed with application. Protective sheet has to be removed after application has gone cold.
Considering the variety of different base materials available on the market, transferring instructions given hereafter should be taken as a general indication.
Temp: 150 C
Time: 10 – 15 sec
Pressure: Medium
Washable to: 50 CDave as for how to use with the Gerber and get the best results would be the trial and error side, as we do not have access to this equipment for sampling.

Thanks Nigel, I did get that sent to me, but just can’t seem to get the image printed on to the stuff. Also what is this ‘foil’ to remove after application, there isn’t any! I mean if you think about it, you print on side A, contour cut side A, remove side B apply to garment and then remove side A, so where is the print, it will be on this ‘foil’ (protective sheet)the instruction talk about.
Have I been sent the correct stuff?

Dave, I have some of this too, not tried to print it yet, I was told by Nigel Pugh – Grafityp that it was perfect for thermal printing, so if they have no idea what settings to use how can they say that?
Nick.

not sure if this is the same as the stuff i use in the Roland pc60 but i print then cut then apply app tape to printed face and remove clear backing
then press for 5 seconds allow to cool remove app tape (you can get app tape made for this job but i use standard)then cover again with Teflon sheet and press again

Dave in terms I understand this is how you use this material, you print on the side which does not have the clear polyester protective sheet.
Once printed you remove the clear poly sheet (foil) and then place the C-Print onto the garment (print side up).
Then either use a silicon release paper or teflon sheet over the print and then apply to the garment with the heat press.
Nick this material can be used on thermal printers, solvent, eco solvent, but we cannot give accurate settings for Dave to use on his printer as we do not use or supply that make of machine.

Just tried printing on to it, just black worked ok for me! maybe need to turn the heat down a bit, sounds like the foil is sticking a bit, but as I say worked ok? you know its reverse wound Dave?

Well I just had a quick go, and just used 220 mate, as I say it sounded like the foil was sticking, so next time I would try a lower heat setting.

Hey folks
Sorry about the delay, havn’t been on in a few days. I’ve been using ths material for a while, and have some problems with the foil sticking. The only way I could cure this was to use Genuine Gerber foils for the stuff, that cured my problem. Hope this helps.

OK I got things printed and out the door, looked good too. Customer came back for some more and said, "oh the print comes off and the sticker goes yellow after a couple of washes". So anyone else have this problem? Maybe down to the printing temp or maybe I should apply the Abrasive guard after printing.
Nigel is looking into the problem for me, but just wondered if you guys that are using it have come across this problem.
Cheers

Dave how did you get on with this??
I stopped using the versacamm for garment printing as I found the ink faded rather quick 🙁

Hi John, I sent some off to Nigel and they recon there was nothing wrong with it, said it must have been washed wrongly.

Dave,
You must not apply the material for at least 36 hours. I made the mistake of applying a few hours later. This does seem to wash off quickly. I have a jacket that I did over a year ago and haven’t had any problems. I use the backing paper from vinyl wax side down for easy release of the image. It does scratch fairly easy though.
