Maybe work out a colour palette etcI looked at incorporating a dragon, then just flames…. I not sure you need it, but maybe that could just be me 😕
Here’s a logotype using just the name plus stroke widths taken from the different stroke widths of the letters, maybe something you could transfer to windows, literature etc.
Maybe too AFW
Cheers 😀

Cheers Rob,
Was surprised at the roof
black hexis hx2000 and the yellow/green was an Avery cast.😀

Well this year I’m I’m going to change things, be kind to myself and see where it takes me. I’m going to ask for what I want and I’m not going to be afraid of the answer no or saying no….And I’m not doing a 7 minute car lunch break 😀

After months of problems the issue was finally resolved.
I had been told by a call out engineer it was most definitely not a hardware problem and that the problem was with either the RIP, the files or the profiles. After doing so many tests I couldn’t work out how it wasn’t a problem with the machine.
In the end I decided to pay for Stafford to come up as he has a good understanding of the machine and the software. After a day of testing he reckoned he had the solution but would have to come back up when a new yellow head and 2 pumps arrived.
It worked…..There had been an electrical fault! with the yellow head and even though it was showing as printing fine on the confidence strip it would stop firing.
Thanks for all your help, just done a couple of walls that did not need painting out 😉
I was stuck, I have a maintenance contract however if an engineer is sure its not a printer problem I had to start a process to resolve it myself.
On a positive note I’ve learnt a lot and know all the little peculiarities of the various versions of Shiraz 🙂
Thanks everyone – Cheers Stafford – and Chris you were right it was the yellow 😉
-
any material Dave…Cheers
-
Hi Dave…still on original ink, it happens with all files whether pdf, vector ai, jpg even patterns…..Tried just about every type of file!
If it’s a full colour CMYK print with a load photographic colour changes it’s hardly noticeable however if it’s grey scale or duotones etc it’s no use.
Not going to buy a new machine Dave…….Changes over Commitments 😀
As the saying goes: ‘If you always do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you’ve always got"
-
Thanks
Chris that’s pretty interesting as there can be a wee bit of a yellow halo around fine print/images, I print as standard 360 x 720……will try the solid blocks as soon as.
I’ll give you a quick call John….Cheers
Appreciate all thought as I do need to get it sorted.
Using the monoprint option in Shiraz worked fine although it produces a lighter print, joins were good.
The change is progressive however that progression start all over again from the start as soon as another panel is processed by the rip (?) -
Thanks Martin…..I got in touch with them and they do do a rounded corner signframe however they are all plastic, looking for a satin anodised….Thanks again will keep trying.
Still doing signs and other things 😀
-
Thanks David…. 😀
-
Thanks Rob….sorted….enjoyed video too.
-
I’ll often cut 2 sets of letters making the base letter an inline of the outer letter, drill and countersink the base letter and then bond the top letter to the base letter…..making it sound more difficult than it actually is 😀
-
excellent John 😀
-
Thanks Guys..
If anyone needs to do this.
From a new computer with Shiraz and Windows 7
I got a new computer with a firewire card, hand built! was much cheaper [ended up changing the firewire card as below]download driver from mimaki website
http://www.mimaki.co.jp/english/download/uc_index.php
The device driver in redIf using Shiraz create a new queue using Null [if Firewire does not appear] and then connect using the setup in server to Firewire.
If problems persist with your firewire card get a TI chipset firewire card
http://www.inta-audio.com/music-pc-syst … pset-p2036Hopefully sorted Cheers
-
Hi John….I tried that version with no joy on Windows 7 …. Do you think I need to revert back to XP….thanks

-
Thanks…..I did notice that the plastic gauge connected to the cap said hot/cold as opposed to max/min.
i have a light on that looks like a handbrake like which can go off when I go round a roundabout.
Thanks Again 😀

Hi Phill,
I had another look and it goes to a thing that looks a bit like an alternator and has a belt connected…is this likely to be for transmission and do you get different types of fluid…Thank You 😀
-
Rob…Your subconscious brain would respond very well to suggestion, these suggestions can create very positive changes.
As an experiment print this off on an A4 and without studying draw it upside down.
Would love to see the result and to know how you felt your brain dealt with the process 😀 -
The Best Hypnotic Subject: The Somnambulist
November 24, 2007Are you right-brained or left-brained? Do you know the difference? Well, how right- or left-brained you are can affect how open you may be to hypnosis and the way in which a hypnotherapist may approach hypnotising you.
The Somnambulist (literal meaning: ‘sleep walker’) is someone who can use both sides of the brain in equal parts and because of this, is the type of person who responds well to hypnosis, sometimes without the need for a formal induction.😀
-
Thanks for a our chat Martin i’ve enjoyed keeping you in the loop.
I’ve got another group session at The National Sports Centre next week and it’s already over booked 😀
I just go into self hypnosis and tell myself i can do websites 😀 😀
-
Rob,
Phobias respond very well to hypnotherapy during my case studies I have helped people to overcome their phobias and they no longer respond in a negative way to the original presenting problem.
Sometimes a phobia can be treated by suggestion therapy alone and sometimes in requires the clinical approach i.e analysis when you return to the root cause of the problem. I know it works because I can now visit the dentist, before I couldn’t even see the word without having anxiety attacks.
Your meditation is a light state of hypnosis and I would imagine you would benefit greatly as you are creative and intelligent. People that enter hypnosis freely have an open mind and and use both the analytical and subconscious parts of the brain. I would hazard a guess that you have been known to sleep walk (?) I have helped clients stop smoking, lose weight, increase their confidence…even things like golfing yips…..It’s a fascinating subject 😀
As you already practice a level of meditation I reckon you could learn to reach a very deep level of self hypnosis in a single session. Fear of flying one or two 😀 Not drumming up business as I already owe you for your kind contribution to the snail trail 😀 -
Remember the big art deco fronted building we were working behind in Darlinton….It’s inside there……The photo was a tiny wee black and white that was saved from being chucked out 😀 😀
-
Indeed you did Harry 😀
me: " How do I know when to apply the second coat"
you: " When the first one’s dry "
😀 😀Thanks for all your kind comments, a bit embarrassing 😳
Rob,…matt clear 2 x overprint, matt laminated vinyl, wallpaper, router cut black composite with yacht thread and matt vinyl, frosted and chrome.
We used some optical clear from papergraphics for the net curtains 😀 Luckily we didn’t have to do the thicker ropes as below.More problem solving than designing the rope one.
😀 😀
-
Thanks Rob…..what do you think about the whole idea of having such large panels alongside each other with locator fixings…..I’m happy I can get them level using large drilling templates?
Thanks 😀
-
Thanks for getting back to me Robert….I managed to get it sorted though…Cheers 😀 😀

Congratulations Jill…Love the photo where his fingers are getting all confused 😀 😀
A wee cracker 😀 -
If you’ve already got an ipad a pogo stylus is pretty good in my opinion…and cheap 😀 😀
-
The ipad is great when you’ve got time to kill…..there’s very good drawing applications and they work well with a stylus, also a thing called Football Manager can keep an 11 year old quiet for hours and hours, an absolute joy.
😀 😀
-
I’m your biggest fan too Jill 😀 x

Thanks…..May need to meet up with both of you to discuss this 😀 are you signuking this year.?

Excellent link Craig….
I did a course held by Dave, he’s incredible not just with his traditional work but his illustration and vector too.
I ended up producing this piece on the course but couldn’t sign my name backwards, he just looked at it and brushed it perfectly in seconds…this was followed by beers in pubs in Torquay that showcased his work.Very clever guy indeed 😀 😀
-
Thanks….need to fit Wednesday thought I might of been pushing it for time with a trade letter supplier, will maybe see if they can do an am delivery Wed…..Cheers

I think Darren’s first post says so much… I’m sorry I couldn’t make it this year.
I even feel bad that my avatar is smiling but I’m sure John wouldn’t mind.quote Darren St Ledger:Very sad to hear of the loss of such a well respected man.I have been a hidden member of uksignboards.com for the past couple of years – simply using this terrific site as a source of reference for the industry I find myself involved with. This is my first ever post.
Although Mr Childs and myself were complete strangers – I always read with great interest the helpful and informative responses he offered to the other UKSB members questions that had been posted.
After reading all of the many tributes for Mr Childs – I believe UKSB member Martin Cole, who referred to him as ‘The Godfather of UKSB’ – has described him perfectly…
May I offer my condolences to his family – and my sympathies to each of you who knew him personally.
R.I.P. Mr Childs.
-
Just heard….so so sad…John was a lovely guy who always talked such sense….my deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.
