CSCS Card, Construction Skills Certification Scheme.

Do any of you guys have the above ?

Have had a look at their website but not sure what my/our profession would be classed as.

My main work is the installation of various window films.

I have been asked to quote for a job (Solar Control Film Job) via a glazing company but I must have the above to gain acces to the site.

    Thanks in advance

    Bob

Do a search for cscs – you will find a great deal of discussion about these cards in previous threads which should answer all your questions

Have a look at getting a ‘Basic Site Skills Only’ card.

Theres a fee for the card and you have to sit a very easy health and safety test, but this will get you onto a building site that needs CSCS cards.

I have a JIB card that covers the same thing as a qualled sparky :lol1: very simple test for building site Health and Safety. CSCS have centres all over the country plus mobile teams that hit colleges etc.

Rest assured – you will have to pay someone, somewhere to allow you the right to do your job. CSCS was supposed to be a H&S implementation to clean up the building industry and prevent accidents. In reality it’s just another means of minimising competition and is a nice little "earner" for the governing bodies 🙄

i got the card last year as i was asked to get one for a job
you can get the dvd with all the questions and answers.
and simulate random tests. really easy
you have to pay to do the test and then pay for the card.
then you will probably never be asked for it again.
oh and the test centre up here 🙄
the guy was so up his arse i really wanted to tell him to shove his card .but i had paid for it.

Not sure if were talking about the same thing here, but I took the very simple health and safety multiple choice test in August last year, and got the CSCS card which allows the holder to work on building sites for one year, after that the card expires and you can’t get a new one. The only way forward is to take another qualification, like an NVQ 2 or NVQ 3 in signmaking, and that will get you back onto the building sites. There are a number of places around the UK doing the level 2 course and a few doing the level 3 course, and if you meet certain conditions, you may get the course funded by the EU 😀

We’ve got the same kind of system here in Aus In WA it’s called a Construction Safety Awareness card or "Blue" Card. I’m sure it was supposed to make working on a building site safer and easier by giving a standard set of guidelines for working on site.

Unfortunately you still have to do individual site inductions which can last up to two hours for each site you need to visit. These only last for 12 months and we’re just doing our inductions over the next couple of weeks.

It’s a pain but it does help keep the cowboys out.

i have a gold sign installation card due for renewal next year, same process just a simple H&S test but was granted on grand father rights. Does help if you produce it on the larger sites can help jobs go a lot easier by keeping the jobs worths away.

I’m the same as Kevin, Gold Sign Installation and have just renewed by sitting the Health and Safety test.
I did do the NVQ3 at Walsall College but originally got the card through grandfather rights…Makes the process of access and working on site easier especially if you are working as a team but doesn’t necessarily stop the site foreman getting you to sit through their site induction program (which don’t always run when you need to be on site!).
