I’m sure it’s been asked a thousand times, but can anyone advise on what vinyl etc to use on walls painted with emulsion? It doesn’t seem to stick down very well when removing the transfer paper — should I find some low tack transfer paper?

I generally use Avery event vinyl for everything — cheap trash, I know, but so are my customers (only joking, you know I love every one of you so much).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You need to make sure the paint has finished drying otherwise the vinyl will curl and peel off. Ordinary vinyl will do but allow a full week for the paint to dry

    as phill says…
also, I know Oracal do it and i would imagine Avery do to, as will 3M…
but you could look into wall-art type vinyl. this is vinyl that is specifically made for in house decor of bedrooms and the like.
it is repositionable. by that i mean it doesnt stick on first hit, which regular vinyl will. this can be a downside because if its needing moved an inch or so, the paint will come away on the back of the vinyl.

    Thanks

Thanks for all that Rob and Phil. I think I’ll try the stuff Andrew mentions, cheers Andrew. I guess normal transfer paper then?

Rob, I’ve read about the repositionable stuff and it just puzzles me.. the problem with vinyl on walls is it comes off too easy when you pull back the transfer paper, so I’m perplexed that the answer could be to use stuff designed to come away easily.

    imagine a giant "post-it" 😉

when it comes to emusion’d walls, they must be smooth with a decent coat of paint. dont go sticking it to some dodgy wood-chip number now! 😉 :lol1:

its basically different types of adhesive and how they work. some more aggressive than others.

Gordon I don’t do any wall graphics but the re positional vinyls could be like some of the wrapping films, Avery Supreme wrap won’t actually stick until it is squeegeed & then would require post heating to ensure it stayed where it was put. The other think is that a lot of these re positionable vinyls are for printed graphics where you wouldn’t be using a transfer paper to start with.
