    that looks like a round dot halftone….

    sort of thing photoshop can generate

    Yep I’d use photoshop then impost into illustrator and use live trace. Use a high resolution or the trace in illustrator will be messy.

    – create the shape/word/logo in illustrator (usually in black + white)
    – copy and paste into photoshop
    – Use layer style to add an outer glow
    – Flatten image then use filter>pixelate>color halftone
    – set all the screen angles the same (usually 45 degrees) to achieve a single colour halftone

    At this point you may need to play around with the screen radius or go back and edit the outer glow to achieve the desired effect

    – flatten image and copy into illustrator then run live trace. Again you will have to play with the settings to achieve the best result.

    you can also do it in corel, certainly 12 onwards,

    you don’t say what software you use.

    in corel, click bitmaps > mode > black and white (1bit) and you can then chose a few effects options,

    once you have your image you can mess about with fills, fades, etc. you may probably have to trace it if you want it as a cuttable vector though,
