  • eBay Sales not welcome on UKSB

    Dear UKSB members

For as long as I can remember, links and discussions about certain eBay sales have been in many ways, frowned upon by UKSB members. About a year ago, “after reading a topic about eBay” I decided to try and cut eBay posts a bit of slack, so to speak. However, in recent months I have seen an increase of eBay type posts that not only bug me, but also have been brought to my attention by various UKSB members. As a result, I must now ask that NO more links to eBay sales be posted on UKSB.
If you have question regarding a product you wish purchase on eBay, then fair enough… ask questions about “the product”. But please do not link to the sale or discuss “individual sales” as such. These posts do nothing for UKSB, they only steer traffic to the eBay sellers sale, which in many cases is “the whole point”. i.e. the UKSB poster is the eBay seller.
I also keep seeing posts that are being posted by complete newcomers to the site, never for them to make another. They post something like, “I want to buy this machine on eBay, do you think it is worth it?” followed by a link to the eBay sale. A string of replies follow from helpful UKSB members showing concern and giving advice. Seldom do I see a reply from the actual initial poster. Not only this when you click the link in the initial post, it is dead as the sale has now ended or has been removed. This in itself creates a “dead thread” on UKSB.
As I said, there are many reasons why these types of posts should not be encouraged on UKSB, so please refrain from posting.
If you have the need to discuss “any product”, you can do. Simply make a post asking your questions in the relavent forum; you can also upload images onto our server using the facilities available to help explain things better. But please do not use eBay links, auction numbers or seller info etc they will be deleted without notice.

Yeah – I’ve often thought that these types of posts were made to promote a certain product on ebay. Consequently, I’ve tended not to reply to such posts of late, but have been highly entertained by some of them :lol1:

totally agree too. I’ve often wondered if these ‘one time’ posts are not actually from the seller, trying to increase his/her chances of a higher sale…

Well done Rob, its a good rule to introduce to the boards

I am glad we posted this when we did… there has definitely been a big drop in eBay related threads. Granted, some do still get through, but they are normally clipped by a mod soon after. 😀

I have for sale a oce flatbed uv printer for sale let’s say £5 it’s on eBay any takers ???? Lol. Ok I was joking but I do agree completely. I don’t know about anyone else but I never get a good deal on eBay so less temptation is always good. Need some new shoes though??? 😉
