  • What color to paint my front door?

Posted by Jill Marie Welsh on September 10, 2010 at 11:22 am

Got a much-needed new roof over the summer.
This has spun off into other projects, of course.
But I really do need to repaint my front door.
I have every color paint there is, and was thinking of black.
But that door gets a lot of sun, and it might be a bad idea.
    Any suggestions?
House is multi colored brick with a lovely green roof and white trim.
    Thanks!
    Love….Jill

Jill why don’t you use it as a feature and paint it to look old as if it was an antique door or something? While your customers wait at the door they can admire your work!

(sorry I’m presuming you work from home and have customers coming around 🙄 )

For a start Jill, I don’t think you need quite as big a sign as that to direct people to your front door 😉

As for your door colour I think I’d stick with green as it compliments the brickwork and you could pick out the panels and beading in tints or shades of green,

nice big house house there Jill…

in many years to come i see you sitting out there in the sun, on your rocking chair doing some knitting like Olivia from The Waltons. 😉 😀

Ide say same, green ties in with the roof, but if were me ide go for a nice Gloss white. 😀

I’d paint it red – but don’t do what I did a few years ago…

I painted the door of my unit and when I went home at the end of the day the paint was still a bit tacky – however, I couldn’t leave the door open all night so was forced to lock up and go home before it had finished drying.

Next day, I couldn’t get the door open because the door to the door frame. I had to borrow a crow bar to get the door open 😳

this reminds me of the old joke…

Whilst handing him a tin of green gloss paint, A Guy tells his new Handy Man;-

"Can you paint my Garage and my Porch green, whilst i go for a walk?"

On returning the Handy Man is now mowing the lawn and the Guy says…

"how did you get on with the painting earlier?"

    handy man replies…

"yeh no problems mate, all done. one thing though, it isnt a Porch, its a Fararri"

    😀

I like the door style, it’s similar to a popular door style used over here in the 30’s.
Dark green sounds good, I’m really crap at colour combinations so I often look at this Adobe site for inspiration.

    To answer Dave’s PM:
This is what my back door looks like.
    😳
You can see how bad my roof was.
I am also going to re-do my windows with glass etch.
The man is coming back and using the rest of the roof material to re-side my office.
My house is a Cape Cod, built in 1930.
You can come visit anytime, Nik!
    Plenty of room here.
We also think there’s a ghost in the front bedroom.
    😉

To go with the roof and the white fence I would paint the main body White and the panels Green………….if not then a kind of as the sun if half setting Orange.

Jill with a back door like that I’m sure Mr Rowland will add his own kind of spin on it…………

If you can wait, I suggest we organise "a paint Jill’s door meet," maybe next year, as an alternative to signuk, all you need to do Jill, is provide Irish Whiskey, Scotch Broth, and some scotch bonnet chili dishes, 😀

    Finally got the job done.
It’s been just insane here between signs and trying to get the house ready for the pending arrival (switching bedrooms, wallpapering painting all that fun stuff)
I painted the door white yesterday and this morning put up my new knocker.
I traded a paint job (which I’d normally charge about $25 for) for this knocker.
Client owns a hardware store, I told him to just pick me out one.
Told him I wanted something sort of like Jacob Marley’s ghost.
He looks more like a gay D!ck Van Dyke.
    😉
